Although our squad is the best i've seen in my lifetime i do feel we need to add to it if we are to compete for 4th place again next season. Firstly we need a young defensive midfielder a superb prospect and very young so can learn from Cars and Nev. Secondly James Milner, he surely can't be happy at Newcastle and would look to move. He is a great England prospect and i feel would fit right in at Everton, does anyone agree? I also feel a sub keeper is desperately needed and possibly a good strong defender. I liked the idea of Manny coming back but at the moment he's a waste a space and should go.

Any body else with suggestions??????

Realistically take your pick from any of the following:

Arshavin
SWP
Appiah
X.Alonso
Flamini
Sidwell
Bentley
G. Johnson

Failing that...Deco, Messi, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Torres, D.Villa :)

Alonso is a great player but is performing poorly at the moment. He probably realises that he plays with a bunch of n*bs.

Flamini is a great little player. Not world class but we are hardly shopping in those arena's are? There is no world class player at Everton.

Aaron Lennon

Would like to see us go for him. A bit of pace down the wing would be nice for once...

I would be perfectly happy if our summer ended up with us getting:

Arshavin (10 mil or more probably with his current form...but he could absolutely ignite our attack)
Pienaar (Sign him to a permanent deal)
Michael Bradley or Manny Fernandes (One or the other would be fine, groomed to be a holding midfielder...imagine it'd be 5 mil for Bradley and around 8-9 for Manny)

Adding a striker is kind of a iffy idea; the problem is that we can't keep 4 strikers healthy. If Vaughan was more reliable then I would say we are fine but I suppose we should add one for a couple mil.

as the title suggests, who would you buy?

IMO i would consider:

Michael Baraja - £6million since he can play DM and we really need one as well so he will be a good buy
Aaron Lennon - £9million and he is looking more likely to leave and it would be fantastic to have him in the team
Dean Ashton - £10million and i think that ashton will work well the yak and AJ upfront

Discussing names is fun but not productive. It's what Everton need rather than who.

Firstly, quantity. The first team squad is too small. Two games a week, all of which are important if the team is competing for trophies, means a first team squad of at least 30. Everton are short in midfield and defence. With the current squad, players get fatigued and then don't play well, or play when not fully fit - see Arteta.

Quantity doesn't mean any player to make up the numbers. It means players at least as good as those who are here already.

Therefore, four midfield players, a right-back and a central defender are required to increase squad numbers.

For extra quality, a right-sided midfield player who can cross the ball, a right-back who can cross the ball, and at least one attacking midfield player of the highest class.

And a defensive midfielder as Carsley can't carry on for ever.

Proof?

If I was moyes and had 20 million

Pienaar - 2 million
Manny - if the fee was around 8 million which I think they would take while they still have that manager.
Id put a 10 million offer in for Diarra at pompy - if we got him then id be delighted with them 3

but we need a rightback badly <_<

my mates supports arsenal and he says hoyte is shite so personally I wouldn't buy him but on loan and then an option to sign then great.

--------------------Yakubu----------------------

---Pienaar---------Cahill----------Arteta------
--------------Diarra-----Fernandes------------

Baines------Lescott--------Yobo---------Hoyte

---------------------Howard---------------------

I think that team would really challenge the scum for 4th

I would love to see Arshavin come in, think he would really add some depth to the squad. From what i've seen and heard of Bradley i think he could also be a very good addition to the squad and also a young replacement for Cars. Also would like to see Hoyte come in on loan.

Additions

Arshavin
Bradley
Hoyte (loan)

Also i would like to see Manny stay, just not for a stupid price tag. Think i would be willing to go to around 8m or so.

Do we want him? Could we afford him? Would he come anyway?

I would imagine possibly (too old?), no, no.

I'm desperate for us to get someone with pace that can beat a player. Lennon would be a good shout.

Lennon or Arshavin would be a fantastic coup for us. As would Bentley but the price we would have to pay to persuade Rovers would be huge imo. That right back is a problem. Not sure about Johnson and I don't like the idea of hoyte at all.

I Think We Need To Spend Around 30 Million In The Summer To Keep Us Moving In The Right Direction. Some Good Names Been Thrown Around. Like The Sound Of Hoyte Aswell At Right Back. Great At Getting Forward

Hi...i look at the forum because my girlfriends little lad declared himself..''blue'' a few weeks ago...

interesting that some of you think Lennon would be a good addition..

As a Spurs memeber..i go every week home and most away..i see him week in week out...Last year he was awesome..seemed to have added a bit to his game in terms of crossing and finishing...

Now he has reverted back to just being rapid..now im not dismissing pace out of hand..but that in itself aint enough on a football pitch...he hasn't really added anything more to his game...and although im sure he would excite fans when he gets the ball..as he has done at the Lane...more often then not he has no end product in terms of goals or decent crosses/final balls etc...

Maybe you guys could bring him on more...id like to think we can give him a bit more time...but if the money was right I wouldn't cry too many tears if he went....

hope u lot can hang onto 5th by the way..or even pip the other lot to 4th spot....

Some thoughts,

We do need a bigger squad of first team capable players. The fans and the club are going to want to be better next year, and at this stage that means at least a cup final if not 4th or higher. Liverpool may well, fingers crossed, but mired in their ownership mess which may hinder them over the summer and I think if we somehow got our shit organized we could put together a very solid squad for next season. I think we can assume AVM and Gravo are already packed and just waiting for the bus. Think we might keep Valente around a bit longer for cover though.

Arshavin - Probably a better option than Bentley if for nothing else than he's not the heir apparent to Beckham and so won't come with that premium on his fee. He'll also have been playing now in the Russian league and so will be fit and sharp come August. I would be well please if we got him for anything less than 12.

Lennon - Do think he could leave in the Summer, not giving Ramos what he wants and there is a genuine issue with his crossing and finishing. No doubt the pace would be a welcome change, but I don't think he'd be worth more than 5, and I don't think Spurs will let him go for less than 9.

Adam Johnson - Seems like a good prospect, maybe a bit lighweight? We need some size and strength in the midfield.

Manny - For 6 - 8 million we should take him, which I think might be his price if Koeman keeps the job, keep your fingers crossed they (Vallencia) win the Copa Del Rey. He hasn't had the best season but, as I've said elsewhere, but he's been hampered by injury. I think we'll see him shine over the run in. Hope I don't eat my words on that one.

Pienaar - Should be done by now, unless what Stevie is saying in the papers is somehow for show. We're being made to look like muppets on this one. He's had a hand in most of our great plays this season and has only made a few errors which have more or less stopped as the season's gone on.

Huddlestone - Like the kid. Can't understand why Ramos doesn't play him game in game out as Spurs seem to suffer without him in the side. He's perfect for picking out Berbatov and Keane for them, and I'm sure he'd pick out the Yak with aplomb. However, as a straight swap for Cars I'm not sure he's ideal. Similar issues to Manny in that respect. They can both do the defensive job but it's not ingrained into their bones as it is with Cars. I just don't see Huddlestone nipping in and taking balls away from opposing strikers. Also I'm not sure he's learned how to use his size to maximum effect. Still I'd like him, but think we'd need another enforcer in the middle. 6 million would do for me.

Bradley - Don't think we could go wrong here. This is the player that can replace Carsley and I also reckon he's got a better sight for goal. Neat passer, keeps it on the ground and to teammates and wins challenges in the middle. 5 -7 million would be a steal.

Derbyshire - We need an extra striker or two. None of you need to be told why. Is Matt ideal, no. If he was available for 3 million would that be worth it? I'll wager yes.

Hoyte - We've got the left and center of defense well enough covered but we need someone like Baines for the right so that we can spread the field and threaten from both flanks. I've not seen Hoyte play enough to say we should go straight in for him. A loan seems prudent here.

Josy Altidore - At the Red Bulls in NY, he's the great hope of the American national team at all of 18. He's got size, pace, strength, good in the air, and can finish. I shudder to think about the Yak and him together. The MLS is a real bitch with the way their contracts work and if they don't like the offer they can just turn it down (it's not really up to the team/player, but the league) Taylor Twellman, who I despise, for New England is nearly 30 now but the MLS wouldn't let him go abroad b/c they didn't like the deal, and it was for a couple of million. Anyway, I think Altidore will be coming to Europe soon, probably for this next season. I'd be surprised if we had the resources to really go in for this, but I think he'll really excel in the Premiership. Probably looking at at least 8 maybe more like 12 million.

Huddlestone wouldnt cover the ground that Carsley does across the back four Left to Right, Huddlestone usually just sits in the centre of the pitch spraying passes, although he has lost some weight he is still too heavy as far as i'm concerned, does'nt do enough work, and he cant head a ball. So its a no to Huddlestone from me, whatever the price.

trust me mate. I see him practically every week seeing as he plays in our league.

He hides in the big games. Even the Celtic support dont rate him highly anymore. He is the biggest one trick pony Scotland has ever seen.

You can do so much better for that amount of money.

Hell. No. Even if he hadn't already proven over and over again that his ego is bigger than his talent, I wouldn't want him anywhere near our squad after the way he treated Wigan - I wouldn't trust him not to pull the same crap with us.

We should buy Thiago Neves, he currently plays for Fluminense, Brazil. Great midfielder with a great left foot. Instead of spending money on Fernandes or Käsltrom, buy him. He's someone with a lot of potential, and in a few years will be worth some serious money. Another one is Renato Augusto, but I think Man U or Liverpool are already getting ready to buy him.
