7 is free so he might get that.

And something tells me 63 is free if he wants it :P

No :) Yesterday, he told in his interview he would never take 63 in Everton. This number is closely connected with Lokomotiv period in his career and he wants a new number here in Blues though doesn`t have any preferences.

I'm looking at a possibility of playing a 4-4-2 when all players are back.

A midfield four would consist of Pienaar.. Arteta.. Banega.. Bilya, assuming that the new players are both fairly decent.
If you want go 4-5-1 it gives you a choice of adding Neville, Fellaini, Rodwell, Osman, or Cahill, at the moment i think Phil would get it as the holding Mid, so somebody has got to work really hard, and improve enough to earn a place in the side.

I still think we'll be better in a 451 as I still think Yak should be up front alone with Cahill behind him. I agree with your earlier posts though regarding Fellaini, he's just not good enough imo. He plays the same role as Cahill yet isn't as effective, Cahill then has to drop back into CM and he's just not very good there. Get Cahill back into the attacking midfielder role and sell Fellaini, we won't need him one Arteta is back. We just need another winger now for cover as Osman should now be used as cover for CM if Banega doesn't perform and until Arteta is back. Sell Fellaini and get in a RB and RW.

Lol thats what I call positive thinking! I doubt he will be coming now.
I was hoping that Valencia were just delaying the move so that he could play last night and that there would be some movement today but it doesnt appear to be the case

I would be, I'd consider 7 for right sided players.. I think he'd have 13 or 23 - both numbers he's had before for Russia I think? To make it easier for us, he should also just have "Billy" put on the back of his shirt.

Amazing. We need a lift in midfield so that we wont be served up the type of dross that they pretend is a footballing performance. I'll be made up if he can make a appearance, and as he's come from Russia we can guarentee he'll be fairly match fit as there league started awhile ago.

and yep he's number 7, he confirmed it.

Quick feet, passes very quickly instead of dwelling on the ball, very good crosses both from "in play" & "dead ball" situations, need to see more but very impressed with last nights showing.

Groin strain but it's not thought to be too serious.

I think they did pass, Bily tended to get inside whilst Baines overlapped and they worked a couple of nice one two's. Baines did pick up the ball deep a few times and you could see he wanted to see a central player making a run so he could play a long ball  , whilst the crowd egged him to run forward with it and play to feet.

Bily seems to be able to look after the ball, nice feet, excellent delivery (almost Hinchcliffe like - little less pace on ball) - but nice to see the ball beat the first man and keeper, Fellaini and Tim shall be doing plenty of set piece work with him to maximise opportunities. Something tells me his technique should see a few direct free kicks come his way.

I'm thinking of putting him in my fantasy footy team based on his corners alone!

I think it was more of them not used to playing with each other... both are used to being the 'playmaker' down the left, so a few passes went astray. From the game I can see them working well together though... Baines with the overlap, and Bily able to cut in. Give them a few games together and they'll be awesome... now we just need to look at the right side of the field.

i said exactly the same to my dad about the corners! they were dynamite and aek struggled every time! if he can do them like that all the time i expect plenty of goals from corners this year! great to have andy style ones again they were the best ive ever seen!

fully agree, beat the first defender and keeper everytime we had a corner or he crossed one over. I feel he will work well with fellaini and cahill as they are very good in the air. nice to see the centre backs getting involved on thursday

Anyone know how many assists he's 'officially' been credited with so far? I make it five - the corners for the first two v. Athens and then the lay off to Pienaar, pass to Yak last night and free-kick for Jo's goal. Any improvements?

I don't know for sure but this is the first time in ages we have had someone who can deliver a proper ball into the box. "Proper" meaning it comes in from high and leaves the keeper in two minds whether to stand or come out for it. Dunc would have had 30 a season if we had him in 95/96!

We can do some serious damage with this lad, as soon as he starts a prem game, i'm putting him in my fantasy footy team. Got a feeling he may have a few direct free kicks coming his way too...

Not wishing to open up old arguments  . But...

Dunc would have had 30 a season if we had him in 95/96!

...but all he had to provide ammo for him was Kanchelskis and Limpar on the wings and Hinchcliffe's rubbish corners......hence he only managed seven goals in twenty games. Heroic of him given the circumstances, especially the ones against the might of Stockport and Port Vale in the cup :) .
What a legend  .

Depends what your definition of a Legend is. For me Dunc will always be a Everton legend because he captured the spirit of the club, the fans, the history, he was if you will an Everton Zeitguist.

Iconic goals against United for sure and his strike rate (six in fifteen) is reasonable but four goals in sixteen games against Liverpool is nothing to shout about; specially as his first one was the only one scored in a game that we won :( .

...he was if you will an Everton Zeitguist.

Not for me, sad indictment of where the club was that people feel that way :) .
Unsworth maybe, but never Ferguson.

Anyway, best to leave this alone for now....we've been here too recently....I'm saying no more.
