Kevin Sheedy

This is a treatable form of cancer if addressed early, unfortunately there is still a case of people being too embarrassed to see their doctor.

My brother had it a few years back (fully cured now) and I had to have all the tests....was a bit embarrassing and uncomfortable, but much better than the (possible) alternative.

Sheedy was keen to highlight the importance of people being aware of getting an early diagnosis if they experienced any problems.

"There is a history in the family," he told evertonfc.com.

"It's so important that people don't ignore the early signs and symptoms and don't be afraid to consult a GP."

My family also has a history of this and I opted to be pro active and see if I needed to be tested. As it stands my age etc meant it doesn't however the nurse was very clear in her frustrations that people who need to be checked actually refuse to. Once speaking to a professional you realise that any worries about embarrasment are totally forgotten about.

The government are running a screening campaign I believe, and if you are selected please use it. Females have to have smear tests, seriously it's not that big a deal when compared to the severity of the illness

it's the year 2012 and people can still be very much in denial about things like this and mental health, need to break down the barriers that create this stigma.

If one person reads this thread and changes their mindset then it's a potentially life saving thread..

Couldn't agree more.

He had/has a wand of a left foot - a little before my memory but my dad/grandad would tell me what a great yet sometimes frustrating player he was - so much to the point that my grandad would shout Sheedy if soneone misplaced a pass, etc many years later, my dad still does on occasions even now!

All the best Kevin - a true Goodison great!!!

I don't think there's a chance of Mr Sheedy becoming a cadaver overnight Mr Tipple. I expect him to make a full recovery from this. The man is a fighter, and if he shows the battle for this as he did with his midfield endeavors then it will be a successful fight. Will contact the relevant people as above through e-mail so they can pass on my regards to Mr Sheedy, that was a good move.
