Shkodran Mustafi

All congrats to the lad. However, this only reasons this article has made it into the mail is to bash moyes.

Your problem is? . Good on Mustafi though, I always thought that he would make it here but sadly it wasn't to be.

I forgot that he asked to leave. All these digs at Moyes unfounded!

I think the fact that he never got a chance and therefore had to ask to leave to grow as a player does implicate Moyes as being the reason he did leave. Eric Dier also did this...

He went and asked Moyes to leave so he would get more game time. Moyes accepted it was better for the player, so if putting the kids future ahead of everything else was "Moyes being the reason he left", then good on Moyes.

Does anyone else think Stones wouldve got the chance to have a run of games if both Jags and Distin werent out for a time?

That doesn't make it right, would it have been a noble act if Moyes let Ross Barkley leave the club due to not getting more game time? No, it would be mismanagement.

SHEEDY:- ‘In my seven years Moyes showed no interest in our youth team.’

Dier wasn't even our player, he was never staying with us!

We had an option to buy which we tried to exercise, Dier was told we could not guarantee him some first team football appearances so he decided not to sign.

EVERTON’S young England defender, Eric Dier, has returned to Sporting Lisbon because he believes the Portuguese club will offer him a better chance of regular first-team football.

The 18-year-old moved to Everton on loan in January 2011 and extended the loan period for the whole of last season.

He made 12 reserve appearances but didn’t feature in a first team squad and boss David Moyes said: “We wanted him to stay with us. We knew he wanted to be in the first team, even though there would be little chance. Maybe Ricardo Sa Pinto (the Sporting coach) and Sporting have other plans for him.”

Yes, It's less damning than the mustafi release, however it is indicative of the managers reluctance to trust young defenders.

Doesnt make it right?! The lad asked for a chance away from the club, since he didnt have the opportunity to play. Mustafi made the request, and Moyes let him go for the lads own development. Theres no point comparing to Barkley, a boyhood Blue looking to become the next idol.

I'll ask again, do you think Stones would've got a run if Distin and Jags hadnt been injured?

So not being given the opportunity is nothing to do with Moyes? Regarding Barkley it was widely said that the lad was desperate to get away in order to play at the end of last season and was considering his options, Moyes going and Martinez coming in changed that.

Stones getting a run? Yes I do. He was given his chance in pre season and impressed - he therefore was given his chance at first team premier level. Compare that to Shane Duffy, he proved more than capable and did well at Spurs when he had to be played. Then against Man City when Moyes had no centre half options he played Tony Hibbert there instead.... Yes Hibbert did well, but at the expense of a young lad getting a break.

Only when there were injuries! If Jags and Distin hadnt got injured, he wouldnt have got a look in. Why? Because a manager will always go for his best players (at CB that has been Jags and Distin and has been for a long time) especially as we were in the hunt for the FA Cup and 4th place until late in the season. You want to introduce youth then? One hell of a gamble, one that can be argued now because we've seen what Stones is capable of.

Also, if Martinez was that impressed, why didnt Stones start from the beginning of the season? Same reason Mustafi and Duffy didnt play much under Moyes - the favoured CBs were fit. When the favoured CBs were injured, Duffy got a run of games and did ok. He was given his chance and did well. But then what happened? 1st choice CB got fit and took his place back. Like Jags did at the end of the season.

Barkley was given the opportunity for first team football by Moyes, by letting him go out on loan after tying him down to a 5 year deal. How is that not investing in youth? Nevermind, theres no point in carrying this on. You'll argue the points against, I'll argue the points for and we will end up going around in circles as usual :)

No one expected Stones to be in a position to oust one of those two, because in reality he wasn't. Physically he has a bit to go in terms of development and Jags is probably still the best centre half at the club but only just. Stones even when those guys were back fit was getting game time, Martinez has most definately demosntrated more trust of younger players than Moyes.

Barkley was at risk of becoming a shadow of the player his talent deserves to be under DM. RM has seen the risks and still gone about playing him. Agree to disagree and all that.

Exactly. Neither was Duffy, neither was Dier, neither was Mustafi.

Anyways, made up for the lad and hope he goes from strength to strength

Those comments suggest that we didnt have any injuries to CB's that year either... Also factor in we were in Europe so there were more games to bring youngsters into as well.

I will also add that the year he did play was actually the year we had a real injury crisis at the back and he came on as a sub for Hibbert.

With Stones, Roberto could have played it safe and played Hibbert or someone else at RB but he didnt.

Says it all really then doesn't it.

Says what? That because Jose Baxter never made it as a top player means that he was unable to form a reliable opinion?

Baxter himself said that Mustafi was a very technically competent footballer who could play..... Stubbs and Holden taught him how to defend.
