2017 Summer Transfer Window

Recommended Posts

to be fair I think we was going to spend big regardless of Rom's sale, it just so happened to be he has gone when we have spent money.

I tend to believe this as well. Getting 47.5 for Stones last year and 90 for Rom is as impressive as our buying - if not more. We should celebrate our success in the window whether we net spend or not. If the money isn't invested in transfer fees it will be invested elsewhere...like that small project taking shape down at the docks.

Every window our only goal should be to become a stronger team. Would anyone on this forum say we haven't accomplished that goal this summer?

Is anyone else happy that we've not actually spent anything then?

I think it's great that we've invested money in talent like Stones and Lukaku, and they've covered the cost of these signings and last summer too. As long as we've got the players Ronald wants I'm happy.

Yes!! I'm glad it's cost us nothing to massively strengthen the team.

Wouldn't say "strengthen". We've done well to add to the team but I don't think it's a team capable of finishing above any of the current top 6 without them majorly fucking up.

We're stronger now than at the end of last season Aiden- much stronger and we've not spent a penny. Bring in s class striker and a Siguarsdson and we're in a much healthier state.

We wont just be able to spend 150 mil and catch the top 6 in one go because they will spend that also. It's about buying smart and closing the gap

I've thoroughly enjoyed the transfer window so far but I will be left a little disappointed if we don't bring in one (or 2 if Barkley goes) big signings before the window closes. We needed to do (& did) our business early so we wouldn't get rinsed from sellers of the Lukaku money. if rather pay over the top money for someone RK really wants rather make a big signing for the sake of it on deadline day. Sissoko Spurs comes to mind.

Squad:

GK: Pickford, Stekelenburg

CB: Keane, Williams, Jags, Besic

LB: Baines

RB: Kenny, Holgate, Martina

DCM: Schneiderlin, Gana, McCarthy, Barry

CM: Klaasen, Rooney, Davies, Barkley, Dowell

Wingers: Mirallas, Lookman, Lennon

Strikers: Sandro, DCL

That's 24 right there without Bolasie or Coleman. Looks like we'll almost definitely be losing a few of those.

Holgate, Kenny, Dowell, Lookman, DCL and Sandro won't need registering will they?

This is where I feel a little tiny bit mixed.

I'm pleased with what we have. Pleased with the players we have. But part of me niggles that I would like to see us capable of keeping so called top players AND spend on more top players. As it stands today, it's still 'sell to buy'.

It's a funny one and hard to get across on here, as each reader will interpret it differently.

See, I don't think it's sell to buy. I think it's buy buy buy and just fortunate that we've sold high. Nothing was guaranteed we would get that kind of money for Rom.

Possibly and time will tell I suppose.

Not a major issue, just a slight niggle that I have.

Pleased with how the squad looks. Will be absolutely ecstatic if we get one or two more high quality signings in (that's spending where we need to on players to improve us, not spending for the sake of it!!!).

Are there any decent players available on loan? Probably no one who would be a true difference maker, but with several players on long term injuries and the extra games with the Europa League, I wouldn't mind bringing in a few on loan for depth.

Absolutely no need to.

Sandro will have to be since he was born in '95. The others don't need to be registered, including Davies, but with Coleman and Bolasie (and this assuming Robles and Niasse are both shipped out and Funes Mori is considered a lost cause), the number of registered players is still 20, and we know a few of the youngsters will feature heavily (Holgate, Davies, Lookman).

Regardless, I'm not so much talking about a 25-man squad to be submitted as much as I'm talking about Koeman's stated philosophy on not wanting a squad that big because it's too hard to keep them all happy:

"Most of the teams they have 24, 25, 26 players," Koeman said last season.

I am not the sort of manager to have that number of players because it is really difficult to keep the spirit in all the players when they dont have any possibility to start. It is better to use young players."

Yeah I quite like that I think each of our more quintessential wide men offer very different qualities. Mirallas, Lookman, Bolasie and Lennon are all very different players, and I think each can help us in different scenarios.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman may need THREE new signings as he seeks to plug squad gaps

Blues boss needs a utility man to fill three key positions - but may need to buy a trio of specialists

Covering 2 positions we definitely need (CB and LB). Another midfielder, fair enough.

Still think we may need more wide men/forwards.

Mirallas is inconsistent, Lennon is just not a gamechanger... He's a depth player, Lookman is young and has yet to confirm that he's going to be a true impact player and Bolasie won't feature for months to come and who knows what he'll look like after.

Does everyone think we are good at the #9 position? Are Rooney and Sandro enough? I would love to have one more true center-forward with quality. I guess a lot of people here think Calvert-Lewin will come through, but isn't he more of a second striker and he, like Lookman, hasn't provenhimself quite yet.

As for centerback, I would love to pick up a veteran that can be proven cover on a short term contract. Doesn't have to be a world-beater, but Jagielka is aging (as is Williams), and Funes Mori is out injured.

Yeah think we definitely need another CB and striker. The CB I could see not being as important if Koeman thinks Holgate is ready to make the jump, as I'd be comfortable with Keane, Williams, Jags, Holgate.

LB is a strange one still. If he plans playing 3 at the back with wingbacks often, think we can make do with what we have. If we play a 4-3-3 more regularly, think we need some cover.
