I don't like Benitez and don't particularly want to stick up for him but to be fair he actually said "smaller teams" rather than calling Everton a small club. It's not exactly the same thing. We are a smaller team considering the size of our squad and the money we've got to spend.

To be honest, I didnt mind Benitez before this season but he's really changed this year to a manger full of excuses and sulks. His attitide towards other teams this year in my opinion has shown nothing but a lack of respect.

This is what he said.

When you play against the smaller teams at Anfield you know the game will be narrow and compact and at times we were a little bit nervous."

And Keith Wyness has replied with,

It is disappointing to hear such an unnecessary comment at the conclusion of what was such a splendid local derby.

"Of course, Mr Benitez is entitled to his opinion but I suspect he is in a minority of one in believing Everton is, in any respect, a small football club

"Somehow we just expect more of a Liverpool manager."

Exactly. Comments like that can kick start whats happened in Italy this weekend. He want s to start thinking before he opens his mouth.

It just seemed really unnecessary and petty IMO. If the shite are such a big team then shouldnt they have been to break us down and score going by his thinking? Or did he expect us to roll over so Liverpool could with? Get to fuck Beneathus.

"There was only one team that wanted to win and one team that didn't want to lose...they had nine men all the time behind the ball.

"When you play against the smaller teams at Anfield you know the game will be narrow and compact and at times we were a little bit nervous."

im sorry but im sure i recall a season or 2 ago that mr benitez used to use that tactic himself,a tactic that also was popular when his predessesor, gerard houllier, was around, filthy hypocrite.he'd go ape if someone said that about his team, either that or "so what, ner ner ner ner ner"

at the end of the day,you can look at it one way or the other, and i think im being realistic in saying that yes, hes right, one team wanted to win,and one didnt want to lose but thats beside the point,we knew we had to be sound in defence today and sometimes to put greater emphasis in defence than attack is the right option otherwise we'd have been bummed today, johnson was nowhere near as effective given him being injured recently and, should we have wanted goals today,we should ahve started with 2 up front and a 4 man midfield, but at the end of the day,he was just frustrated that he had pretty much his most effective forward line out and couldnt get a goal sue to a superb defensive performance, a good manager today would have praised us for that

football = tactics, and thats just how we played it today

the fuckin cunts! i see they have all spat the dummy then. lets put it one way lads i think we would rather have a small team than a one man team. how pethetic is it off a maneger to try and attempt to put us down when realy its just made him look silly and proves he has no decency. A manger of moyes class would never come out and say shit like that out of spite. fuck the blady twit he's full of shite

PS. he said this as well:

"We tried to keep going, keep going forward, but it was really difficult because they were defending and playing counter attack.

"When you play against eight players behind the ball, narrow and deep, you cannot create many clear chances. You just keep trying.

"It is how they want to win points, you cannot say anything about this.

"We were trying. When you play with the small clubs it is difficult, they play deep."

What was he expecting us to do, let them run through us. If he was such a goo manager he would have told his fucking team to stop hittting long balls into our penalty area! as Stubbies and yobo had everything!.

LOL, I actually take it as a 'weird' compliment. To be that frustrated at another teams tactics, it was a bit like there own medicine, and then to try 'put' down the other team with an insult is very unprofessional.

As a result, I don't mind him saying that as if thats the only way they can get back at us for not being able to score against us is very childish.

The response on the forum is even funnier, they talk about Everton getting bitter every year but its obvious that they're the ones that are bitter.

A good day, I'm not going to get all worked up about it :D

think back to 2005. champions league final. score 3-3 liverpool are playing a 10-0-0 formation to keep AC milan from scoring.

now we didnt have all 11 men behind the ball. they did and they say we were defensive. how fickle they are

You came for a draw and got a draw. You probably had the best chance of the match, Riise Gerrard and Alonso were awful for us, and we couldnt break you down.

On the "small" club issue. I don't see a problem. We are a top 4 team, your a smaller club than us. You have got history, but you are to us what Espanyol are to Barca, a annoying local team. Real Madrid are Barca's main rivals, like Man Utd are ours.

Kopite - in fairness to you, you have come on here and made an attempt to make reasonable comment/conversation.

The thing is, everything is relative. So, how are we measuring "small club"? We have won the title 9 times, albeit our last in 1987. Liverpool have won more titles (and yes, before anyone says it the EC 5 times) but likewise they haven't won the league for a long time - only a few seasons more recently than us. If my knowledge is correct, only Liverpool, United and Arsenal have won it more times.

So does that mean we're bigger than 88 other English league teams?

I only ask because I saw the comments their fans put on the red & white kop site - OTT.

I thought we played well today - in the 1st half we gave as good as we got. Yep, 2nd half we set stall out for draw, but hey mission accomplished unlike Liverpool who set out to win and didn't achieve it.

I'm now only interested in us cracking on and getting a top 7 finish this season - no reason why not.

Rafa was just trying to point the finger at us to cover up his own inability to break down a team that knows how to defend. Where was his small club speech after the 3-0 game? hmmmmm where?
After that comment i hope DM send the match video & tactics to evrey 'small club' in the league so they to can share in the joy of making him look like a cock.

Here are the comments I posted on the afore-mentioned RAWK about the contest today:

"Jaysus, the way folks are going on in here, you'd think we actually had a chance to win the league until today's result. Face it, it wasn't going to happen.
Many are disappointed with Everton's tactics, yet they created several chances, including one of the most dangerous, and admit it: they played well defensively (and FWIW, 4-5-1 is their regular formation). It wasn't all our failures in the attack; they DO have talent in back. Yobo and Stubbs were immense, Cahill won more headers (at least according to the commentator on the broadcast I saw on-line) than anyone else, Arteta disrupted our flow time and again and did well to neutralize Xabi.
Not the most aggressive game plan overall, but isn't that how teams usually play on the road? Sit back to defend, then hope to catch the other side in counter-attack. It's a credit to our team that their counter-attacks were limited, and usually amounted to nothing.
I thought our biggest problems were in the middle: Stevie and Xabi looked uncertain, and I think our attackers (especially Kuyt and Crouch) lost their confidence in the second half as their back line held up after the waves of attacks. Their final touch lacked conviction when they did get a chance to play the ball towards goal. Pepe and the back four were formidable, coming forward with conviction often enough, and Jermaine was our best attacking player today.
Bottom line... they played well enough to get the draw. I mean, geez, the passion with which you support our team is fine, but completely discrediting the other team's effort and talent makes it appear that you don't know what you're talking about. Roll Eyes
Of course, that's just me..."

Not sure what Rafa meant by "small club". I thought he was referring to a team with somewhat limited resources, as many on here admit.
But you shouldn't take too much offense. I mean, it's as harmless a comment as Moyes and Arteta's assertions that Merseyside is "mostly Blue". It's largely meaningless, and meant to get under your skin. If it did, then it worked.

Congrats on getting the draw, and keeping in European contention.

Astute assesment Steelered - We had our deficiencies also, however & overall I feel earned the point.

On The investment thing: However smallw e may be perceived - It's nice to still be a fan/supporter & not a customer or targeted audience demographic.

Can/Will Liverpool be able to say that ?

Some of my mates are Liverpool fans and were generally agreed with you what you have said. I do realise that every club as its minority of 'extreme' blind supporting, where everything that their team does is right and can't do no wrong. We've had some in the past and as you said you can't discredit a team with no real justification.

I'd like to say thanks for being unbias and actually taking the time to post what you thought of the match. I'd say its a very fair comment and shows a good character from you to make the effort to (re)posting that from a Liverpools point. Its a real credit to yourself to post a different opinion than those shown on RAWK and even admit that some of those people there were appearing to not know what some people are talking about.

Anyway, I'm going to bed, not lookin forward to waking up tomorrow with a hangover but sod it.
Thanks for the unbias and fair few.
