MikeO
Phil Neville wouldn't spring to mind as being in the team of the year to be honest....but... The calculations are based on the four key factors that contribute to a player's effectiveness and his ability to help his team win matches. The formulae were devised through analysis of hundreds of games since the start of the Premiership in 1992 and have been statistically proven to measure a player's effectiveness in winning matches. Good enough for me . Nice to see it statistically confirmed that Spud is (as we already knew) without question the best midfield player on Merseyside! MikeO
Surprised Tim Howard didn't get a look in anywhere....conceded fewer goals than David James who seems to have been picked by everyone. On the statistical front he can only be behind James if the back four were superior to Pompey's (which they plainly were) so he had less to do. The stats obviously can't take into account the organisational skills of the keeper or the fact that a defence will play better if they've got confidence in him. I'd have Howard over James any day.
