We've signed up with Chang for another three years (>LINK<), worth £8m. Not sure how that compares?

I am guessing that is £8m per year and I beleive the previous was £4.5m per year so a nice increase

Compare it to Spurs' deal with their sponsors and it looks like a pittance (if I remember rightly anyway)

I think that means we get the £8m for the three years whereas Totteham get £34m for the four, which basically means that one of the clubs with who we are directly competing with are still a whole lot richer than we are.

Well!......It's not always how MUCH you get!.....It's how you use it that matters!

That's what I tell my wife each month when I get paid!!!! :huh:


Though I'd say £8million over three years isn't really that good!

Not too impressed by the deal...

£2.6million a year for the next three years, up from last year's deal that was £2million per year with addons for European qualification and league placings.

Chang beer has extened its sponsorship deal with English Premiership side Everton for another three years worth 8 million. Under the new deal signed in Bangkok yesterday, the Chang logo will appear on the club's outfit until 2011, said Somchai Suttikulpanich of Thai Beverage Marketing (Thaibev), the producer of Chang beer.

Chang has been sponsoring Everton since 2004 with the current contract expiring at the end of this season.

Under the new contract, the Premiership side will play an important role in running a Chang-Everton football academy in Bangkok.

They will send their coaches here and at the same time accept Thai players and coaches to train in England.

Everton CEO Keith Wyness said that the club was proud to be a good partner with Chang and that the team had turned down several offers from bigger companies.

''There were offers from electricity and telecommunications companies but we decided to stick with Chang,'' he said.

''We may see Chang at the new Wembley in the League Cup final next month.''

For Everton to reach the League Cup final they have to overcome a 2-1 deficit against Chelsea at Goodison Park in the second leg next week.

Wyness said he supported the idea of establishing a football academy here as this would be good foundation for the Thai national side.

''There is no quick way in football. You have to start from four to seven years old,'' he said.

Thai Beverage Marketing, the marketing and distribution arm for Chang Beer, yesterday signed an ฃ8-million (Bt520 million) contract to extend its shirt sponsorship with Everton Football Club for another three years, beginning with the 2008/09 season.

Under the partnership, the first Everton international football academy outside Liverpool will be opened in Bangkok, according to Robert Elstone, deputy chief executive of Everton FC.

According to Everton's official website, the three-year deal will follow the existing shirt sponsorship arrangement, which runs out at the end of the current English Premier League campaign. It marks the second time the Thai company has renewed its association with the club.

It represents a 45-per-cent increase on the previous deal (which earned Everton ฃ4.5 million) and reflects the growing stature of Everton within the Premier League and on the world stage.

Thai Beverage Marketing senior vice president Somchai Suthikulpanich said the company had enjoyed both measurable and non-measurable benefits from the partnership with Everton, which kicked off in 2004. The company has already spent more than Bt400 million in sponsoring the "Toffees" (the club's nickname) over the past four years.

"We successfully launched Chang Beer in Australia by the end of last year, as the people there already knew about our product. They regard Tim Cahill, who is also an Australian international, as their hero, and also welcome merchandise such as Chang Beer that is related to the club and its superstars," said Somchai.

He said the company was able to distribute its Chang Beer through the Tesco hypermarket network in the UK, as its chairman is also an "Evertonian" (a real fan of Everton).

Somchai said Thai Beverage had set up International Beverage Holding to distribute Chang Beer to many overseas markets. The company has branch offices in the UK for the European market, in New York for the US, and in Bangkok for the Asian market. All Chang Beer products are exported directly from Thailand.

Elstone said the first Everton international academy was opened summer last year in Liverpool at a cost of about ฃ14 million. It will be a significant stepping stone in attracting kids from Thailand and other countries for football training and practice.

Somchai said Ray Hall, director of the Everton International Football Academy, would be in Bangkok next month to look at the Thai centre and its facilities, and to set up the training course for the centre. The Chang-Everton Academy will be located at ThaiBev (Meesuwan) practice ground near Mengjai intersection.

He said there were already almost 500 youngsters aged from four to 18 in training at the ThaiBev football centre. Everton have agreed to send coaches and instructors to train Thai youths at least twice a year for a two-week course each time.

Everton CEO Keith Wyness, whose club is riding high in the Premiership, attributes their success in part to Chang's ongoing partnership.

"We are absolutely delighted to be able to capitalise and build upon our existing relationship with Chang. The scale of this new deal reflects Everton's success on and off the field in recent years and also represents Chang's faith in the Everton name," he said in a statement.

"The strength and quality of our partnership, as shown by a nomination in the prestigious Hollis Sponsorship Awards in 2006, is of great value to us as a club. Indeed, the strong understanding we have forged with our friends at Chang is mutually beneficial and we will continue to work together to ensure we remain one of the Premier League's finest partnerships," he added.


You didn't mention that you could get Chang in Oz Pat! The academy in Thailand could be promising.

If youd seen any Thai football, You may reserve the academy opinion Louis.

Some Asian nations are mover's n shaker's, on the improve.

Thailand are not 1 of them.

ill be honest, they are right up their with Guam, fiji, Outer Mongolia & Neptune.

Your AFrica idea would bear much more Fruit.

If this is true, why are we not getting nowhere near as much as the Yids? They cant be that much more marketable surely?

too be fair its an increase than last time. and it must be the best deal out there!

cas i'm sure if one was worth more money than we'd go for it!

plus i like the sound of this academy.

In pure monetary terms it is less than Fulham, a third of Tottenhams and less than half of Newcastle's per season.

These teams gain more beneficial deals because the people who make them for them are very good at marketing the club. The question is, are the people who make these deals for us no good or has the club got such a low profile on the international stage that it is gonna take time to get better deals?

I don't think it's fair to only compare us with Spurs, other teams maybe on more than us but so far as Mansion go they have a rediculous marketing budget.

Since starting up only 2 or 3 years ago by with a lot of money behind it they have spent rediculous amount trying to market and take as much business as possible.

just last year they gave everyone that signeded up before one of the NFL a free $1000 bet! I think it cost them over £100,000.

If we really wanted a big deal we should have tried to get someone like Betfair who are starting to spend on advertising now and are raking it in and would probably be keen to get involved in football sponsorship.

Hopefully we can make the most of this sponsorship, send the team over there pre season for a few days to do have a friendly or two and a bit of promotion.

Why dont we just find a decent sponser that would give us the Cash to be up their with Spurs. Shouldnt be that hard with us fininshing Top7 from now on and Getting a European spot.

weve got in europe twice, once we crashed out as quickly as possible. we're still a fair way from being able to demand near what spurs get, we're not that big of a recognised club, yet....in modern times ofcourse

The London effect is a big part of it, and with Newcastle they're the only club in town. We get more than City do from Thomas Cook and considerably more than Villa do from 32Red. We just need to keep progressing as we are, keep the profile up worldwide and the money will come.

Northern Rock are Rcok Bottom atm, why are newcastle still with them? do they pay yearly for the Sponsorship ?

Northern Rock are based in Newcastle, they are huge - the money they pay to Newcastle is pittance in comparison to what they have available. They sponsor Newcastle Utd because they are a one club city and if every fan opened a Northern Rock account then it pays for itself rather quickly.

Let's look at the long term.....8M does not sound much...but it comes from CHANG which is a company from Thailand.Thailand is located in South East Asia, which is one of the world's fastest growing region. Being with Chang and being the household name in Thailand do generate more cash from other Everton merchandise sales as the spending power of people in Thailand increases...i guess that is the right direction for us....Next EvertonFC should move into China and India(not a great footballing nation) as they are the two most dynamic and super strong economic powers in the world...Since economic powers are shifting to Asia, i would say it is a good strategic move to retain an Asian sponsor.......In few years time we will know that we are much better known in Asia than Spurs! :)
