java2001e
Everton website says, "Tim Howard joined Everton on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2006. The American international arrived from Manchester United, where he had found himself behind Dutchman Edwin van der Sar in the pecking order. He has, however, made 77 appearances for Alex Ferguson's men since joining in 2003. Before joining United, Howard had starred for the New York/New Jersey Metrostars, where he succeeded American international Tony Meola as first choice keeper. He received his first international cap in March 2002 agains Ecuador and as kept five clean sheets for the States. He goes to the 2006 World Cup in Germany as America's second choice stopper. Upon the confirmation of his move to Everton, Howard said he was more excited at joining the Toffees than when he arrived in Manchester. He will battle with Richard Wright, veteran Nigel Martyn and rookie Iain Turner for the goalkeeping gloves at Goodison Park." presumably Everton are aware that martyn has retired? so he's up against wright and turner. now wrights stats for last season were about the same as martyns, even tho he played fewer games! is howard the automatic first choice? MikeO
Presumably that article was from before Martyns retirement...the most recent similar I could find was.. "Following Nigel Martyn's enforced retirement from the game, the Blues will have Howard vying with Richard Wright, Iain Turner and John Ruddy for the goalkeeping berth." ....don't think he's certain for number one although he'd be favourite at the mo. Ian
I think he's got to be ahead of Dickie, I would hope Moyes would not overlook Turner and just start with Howard automatically, would really like to see turner in between the sticks for a few more games this season (Cup games would give him more experience)

aaron
Howard should be in nets; hands down 37021 better not have his hands down howard should be in but i agree that turner should be given a few goes but no to teflon
Romey 1878
Howard is good enough and should be the keeper that starts ahead of the other two, however i would have Turner as our number two goalie over Wright

Heh
Howard is a good keeper, but a keeper is only as good as his back four, and that`s where I think you`ll have problems.
Romey 1878
I dont see much wrong with our back four tbh, i could understand it if we still played Stubbs and Weir together but hopefully that wont happen next season
CraccerC
howard number 1, without question of doubt
StevO
howard said somethin about it in an interview at the world cup, he said he knew who would be number 1, but it would not be fair to say so right now. or somethin like that. Howard for me
scouse
Howard for me aswell as Mark said not concerned about the back four if he picks who we all think he should

chronic
Wright's self inflicted injury where he tripped over the sign saying "do not train here" just summed it up for me. If Howard lives up to his potential then he should deffo be 1st choice. Would like to see Turner getting a shout though. I'd personally be quite happy if we sold Wright tomorrow. CraccerC
^ same here, but i think ruddy looked better than turner when he got a go , but the thign is howard's only loan, maybe don't wanan sell wright just yet till they find something permanent
Adams
^^good point, like if we sold Wright then didnt sign Howard we would be stuck with Turner
StevO
fine, hes a good young keeper, he'll have an extra season behind him (maybe not alot of games but more time learning)
Romey 1878
^^good point, like if we sold Wright then didnt sign Howard we would be stuck with Turner 37565 i wouldnt say stuck with Turner like its a bad thing, having Turner as our number one if Howard goes back to Manure next season is not such a bad thing for Everton. Aslong as Moyes plays him at every oppurtunity then he would be a fine candidate to be between the sticks.

GoldfishMemory
Ruddy hasnt even played a full first team game yet, you cant say hes better just from that 37661 He's played as much as turner hasnt he? Turner against Chelsea in the cup & Ruddy when Turner got sent off in the league, thats one game each by my counting!
Romey 1878
I thought Turner had played a few more games, but anyway thats still more than Ruddy. Ruddy didnt even play a full half, he did do very well though and i would love to see him between the sticks for us within the next few years. Nice bit of business he was by Moyes me thinks. Sorry i pressed edit instead of quote Edited July 11, 2006 by GoldfishMemory

GoldfishMemory
Yeah i had a feeling he played last game but i was far too drunk to remember that game i thought if theres not going to be a game for a few months i'll make the most of it and drank myself silly! I think Ruddy put on a better show than Turner and so do alot of people i know who have seen him train.
