xsaint
I was a bit worried. It seems Johnson and Bt have not formed a good partnership yet and they do not seems to be scorring that many throught the pre-season matches except archie boy....On the other hand, the defence with lescott seems to be conceding far too many goals....When u cant score and yet u concede too many sounds trouble for Everton FC.what are your views folks? fcssl
I was very impressed how Lescott and Yobo linked up...they seemed to be well established to me. Between the the two of them, they won almost every header which was played in. Lescott also showed that he can turn on the pace when needed to recover ground. However, I believe the weak link in our defence is Naysmith...he just looks awkward and uncomfortable. The goal, however scrappy it was, was down to Naysmith. He was too far away from his man, and allowed him to cut inside. When Naysmith realised it was all too late and the ball had been played. I honestly thought that Naysmith would have been sold on during the closed season. Hopefully, when Valente and Pistone are fit, they will take his place for good. I was also a little concerned about VDM. Okay, me made a few runs along the right wing, and looked good at times, but he was sitting out far to wide for me, and looked to be drifting his way through the game. A couple of points during the second half, Moyes was actually screaming at him to get into the game. One positive point though was his interaction with the crowd as he was warming up. He was signing autographs and speaking with our supporters...which counts for a lot. He also received a good welcome when he was on the ball, which is encouraging and, I am sure, help him with any problems he may have. As for the rest of the new signings, Johnson looked sharp and was unfortunate not to score, especially with his looping attempt which hit the crossbar - and Tim Howard looked well in our goal too. Even Wright managed to pull off a decent driving save during the second half. Simon Davies looked much improved over last season, although it doesn't take much!. One concern I do have is with Tim Cahill. He piles into needless tackles all to easy and gives away freekicks in some very dangerous positions. I do hope that he manages to cap his behaviour and is a little more intelligent, rather than getting himself carded and banned. All in all, I can not wait for the season to begin. A few issues to tidy up on in the next coming week, but I honestly think this is the strongest line up Everton has had for a long long time. We must have the pacyest (is that a word) centre halfs in the prem, yobo & lescott look good

StevO
from that game i thought AJ linked up well with BT, Arteta and Tim quite well is it just me or is Lescott a fuckin giant! the lad is huge! i was very impressed with him and Yobo, i think by the time the darby is out of the way our front and back partnerships should be gettin pretty solid
Romey 1878
Ive just got a really bad feeling that when we play Spurs we'll get ripped apart and concede a few which isnt good preparation for te derby is it
Romey 1878
I'd much rather keep BT and get Nugent, Nugent looks quality but we'd need to bring him in slowly rather than throw him in straight away

fcssl
I am not particulary bothered as I think that BT and AJ will work well this season. No player in their right mind is going to commit 100% in a friendly, only 7 days before the season starts. I honestly dont think we have a problem, other than with Naysmith, and hopefully he will not be in a natural starting line-up.
Mac
Said this before and will say it again, if we are in this position come December then I will worry. Lets give this "new look" Everton a fair shake of the stick at a competetive level. ATB Mac

thebluenose
well look at last season. we were shite up until xmas then we started to play as a team. whilst the season before that. we had most of our team from the disastrous 17th finish. only cahill and bent were the additions. and we played well coz we had a goalscoring threat and of course most of the players were used to playing on the pitch with each other. just give em time to settle. now yobo isnt going to ACN this year he may be able to keep his place from the OAP. rowlo-efc
Firstly, Johnson and Beattie are early days - they have certainly started to understand each other. Against Bilbao, BT was trying to knock the ball down to Johnson or hold it up for him to run on to... It didn't quite work but BT was first in after AJ's shot hit the crossbar (good tackle turned it away though). They will 'knit' together - they are seemingly perfect - a strong battler and a pacy menace!! VDM looked good when he came on. Lescott was fantastic - not scared of a tackle at all. The goal was poor - the whole team fell asleep - including most of bilbao - infact the lad that scored had to pinch himself to wake up and shoot... The defence is not a massive problem in my opinion. WE need a young left back but that is it. Moyes played about 17 players - just to give them match fitness - I wouldn't worry about the result. BT only got a half, AJ got an hour. ANichebe didn't really get a touch in any promising positions - marked out of the game really. McFadden - just didn't perform. They aint gonna throw in massive tackles 1 week before the big kick off... My only worry was that Davies, Arteta and Cahill looked ordinary. I hope that they pick themselves up for next week... I would worry more about the midfield than attack and defence... The defence and attack are only as good as the support they receive.... java2001e
the team is hungry and determined to prove themselves this season. and they know that they have to. there is no room for complacency or failure. anythng less than a top ten finish and it could be bye bye moyesey. it will probably also mean big changes at board level. on an optimistic note i think that moysey has got the side right. i also think that the board have got a real sense of direction after floundering for years. we will soon know!
