From a club point of view I’d have rather Bill leave the club under his own steam, and step away graciously and let the fan base heal. If these rumours are true then it’s not how I think he should have left the club. I honestly think he was more concerned about his own legacy than the good of the club.

If he has passed then I feel sad for his friends and family and hope he didn’t suffer and went out in comfort.

    Oh shit.
Just seen this on Sky Sports news.
Obviously wasn't expecting that. Quite a shock.
    RIP Bill.
We'll all have views on him, and rightly so. Like many, I just wish he'd walked away when he should have. Enjoyed himself some years of peace and quiet.
We'll have views on his whys etc which I'm sure we'll talk openly about in time but for now it's a 'virtual' moment of silence.

    Two things...
    1. Players improve in training. Branthwaite may not have been ready for the step up immediately.
    2. Man management. Throwing a youngster into the fire pit probably isn't the best approach. Also, ensuring that a young player has the hunger and desire to win their place, and then the sense of achievement having gotten it - good for long term development. As for Keane, the pressure and challenge to respond. He's still a player that Dyche needs to rely on, so dashing his confidence wouldn't be healthy for the squad either.

Picking up results is important, but so to is balancing the long-term health and mentality of the squad, facilitating competition, motivation etc.

Signed in mainly to comment on the Spanish football talk, Altetico and Simeone. To give something on topic, I said Emery from the very start and he's still the man I want. Don't understand anyone wanting Koeman over him. Anyway..,

First point, Simeone is out of league. I expect some people to come in with the whole 'we're Everton, noone is out of our league'. He is. Get over it.

Secondly, the quality of La Liga is not too dissimilar than the Prem. It's less competitive in the bottom third or so, and they have 3 teams who are above the rest...true. That said, Sevilla would spank Southampton any day of the week. Celta and Bilbao would beat West Ham. The bottom 7 or so are weaker. Newcastle would never get relegated in Spain.

Thirdly, Atletico play to their strengths. You see them play against Bayern and call it negative - it's not negative, it's productive. Defending is an art form, and trust me, if you see Barkley running through on goal in a UCL semi against Bayern...about to fire your team into the final, it doesn't get more exciting and entertaining than that. Yes, they play that way against some lesser teams as well, that's true as well. Remember us against United in Martine's first season? We expected to dominate, it wasn't working and he adapted and we played a counter attacking game and thrashed them. Never did we see that flexibility again, but wasn't that exciting? Wasn't that great to watch. Southampton away this season just gone, probably the best of the season? Atletico are flexible. They play some delightful football with extremely talented players. Griezmann for one. You can't watch a player like that and not be entertained. A player like that is still at the club because of the manager and the success of the club. If Atletico's system wasn't working and they were 6th or 7th, they wouldn't be keeping Griezmann, Koke, Saul etc. On that topic as well, Saul's goal wasn't entertaining? I could watch that on loop for hours.
There's a passion and a fighting spirit that comes with this type of football too, which I think gets you more involved and animated. Think of Goodison's atmosphere now compared to years ago under Moyes and back to when we were fighting for our lives. Go to any Atletico game, any of them. Go to the Bernebeu - it's dead, all you can hear is people eating their pipas and unwrapping their sandwiches at half time. Everytime I go to Vicente Calderon I love it, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It reminds me a bit of going to games in the Gwladys back in the late 90s early 00s - pure passion.
For anyone that says that Atletico are boring, or that they wouldn't want that style of football at Everton...I'm glad you're nowhere near a position of power.

I'm on the fence tbh. I've always been pro-leaving, because change doesn't bother me and being part of a superstate (and wanting to be) is a very very sad state of affairs. What's wrong with being individual and in control of your own destiny...with a bit of independence? I think every country has the right to be 'free' and that's why I supported the Scots, always argue for the Catalans when that topic comes up (all the fucking time in our household).

So, why am I on the fence? The politicians. It all sounds good, except for when you think about how things will actually work. The same bell ends making calls and being free to do as they like, not representing the people. The voting system is a farce, the politicians are all out of touch pricks, so what'll actually change? In the short term our currency will likely take a substantial hit (that's bad for us, with having a Spanish missus), and there will be mass uncertainty. In steps David Cameron et al. the opportunists who will push through whatever they like because they manage to get us to buy into these ideas providing long term stability.

I just don't trust any of them. I don't like Europe, I don't like what we have here either. In the end, my vote will probably just come down to the lesser of two evils.

Apologies for the rant...I could have actually written a lot more but I've got bored, as PES has now loaded up....off to play master league. Oh, and on the topic, signed and 100% agree with the petition.

This. Another manager comes in, watch him change. There are some things Martinez has done right...Lukaku is the main example of that. Over the years we've had a good number of decent strikers that Moyes turned into channel-running dogs. AJ was the prime example of that. Dangerous in and around the box, but then by the time he got a chance there he was knackered from chasing Hibbert's chipped balls down the line. Lukaku is clearly told to stay on the centre halves, play a centrally as possible, and just be there when the ball is in and around the box. Similar story with Ross, I think he's given the freedom and told your job is to carry the ball and support Rom, the DMs will win the ball back.

I'll put a shift in, am I a good player? Actually, the answer to that is yes...but not at this level.

I don't subscribe to it at all, he's so average it's not even funny. I don't understand how Everton fans can't see this. The minute Barry is out the team we struggle massively because of this headless clown. He has to put a shift in purely because his positioning and reading of the play is awful. He will run at a player, as he's not close enough, they'll pass it past him, he then has to run back. He really isn't very good at all. If he's supposed to replace Barry we're in serious trouble. So, defensively he's not up to scratch...is it even worth looking at his offensive contributions? Lack of ambition to get into the other half, refusal to look up for a pass, slows down every attack, never assist, never scores...no contribution whatsoever.

    Overrated doesn't even cut it.

Sacking of the manager is a board decision, it'll be made not only by BK but the rest of the board. Bill can defend him and make his case, but if the board feels strongly enough about it then the wheels may just start turning.

Really? I don't read this as much as NSNO, but generally I'd say Mori gets quite a lot of prize and is quite well liked. I think the opposite, I think his mistakes are often overlooked.

Fair point re: Jags though. This is the importance of a good pairing, he and distin complemented each other perfectly...we don't have that any more.

Love the passion, but there's some serious blue bias here. Kopites all of a sudden aren't delusional bellends, for the sake of one argument. Please stop using the phrase 'bigger than the club', I CBA looking back to see if I used it (I probably did)...but it's a bad phrase. If I used it, my bad. It's about being better. I outlined it in my last mini essay about how the club will be fine without him, we'll keep going. It doesn't change the fact that he's a level above where we are, though. Are we in the CL? Are we even remotely close? Is he good enough to play in it? Wouldn't you want to if you were him? Not that complex really.

Should he talk? Rather he didn't...but can't blame him either. You don't know the full story either, he might have said next year (clutching at straw a bit)...we could still get there for next August!

Who cares about the Kopites? Suarez left them, after they stood by the biting and racism etc. Sterling left them as well. Seriously...who are they to say that? These are the same gobshites that mocked us for spending 28 on Rom when they got Balotelli for less. Who gives a flying fuck what they have to say about anything?
