That view point , and I’m not saying you’re wrong, just goes to prove he’s damned if he does damned if he doesn’t

He was getting slated for being too stubborn and sticking with the same formation / players , he changes both then gets slated for panicking

Clearly there is a problem if we are coming towards the end of October and he doesn’t know his best eleven or formation but I think that’s a consequence of making such whole sale changes

It was the perfect storm , a lot of new players needing time to bed in coupled with an absolute nightmare set of opening fixtures which has resulted in the players being sapped of any confidence

Add to that the failure to replace Lukaku and it’s easy to understand why we’re in this mess

If he has lost the dressing room then unfortunately there’s no coming back from this, but given the fight and spirit the players showed against Lyon I honestly don’t think that’s the case

I’m still firmly on the fence , I can understand the calls for him to go but personally I still think he needs more time to turn it around , the problem is I can’t see how he , or any other manager, can turn it around until we bring a decent striker in

But he is good enough. Captained a side to the final of this last year, scored twenty goals and completely adored by Ajax fans (who aren't easy to please); he can obviously play. For whatever reason he's not doing it for us so far. Don't ask me what the reason is.

Holgate spent too much time powering the challenge up in order to leave something on the player.... hence him being half an hour late.

How has klaasen earned the start???

He was decent a few seasons ago. Had an attacking flair about him, but he's really dropped off now. No thanks.

This game, and in particular that goal, was what made an Everton fan and believer out of me. As an American, having Donovan tee up that sweet layoff for Gibson to smash home was special for me. Just something about it.

I think we will collect three this one if we can keep our house in order i.e. defense. How about a clean sheet you blues???

Just don't waste the point won at City by dropping points at Burnley lads. The job now is to stay in or around the top 5 until January so that we are attractive to the players on the list that Steve Walsh is slowly compiling.

Hilariously lousy situation for at least some of us in U.S. Although all 10 matches are televised on the NBC group of networks, our match is on something called Esquire Network. As it happens, my DirecTV package includes all of the other nine match channels, but not ...... Esquire.

It gets worse. Normally when Everton are not on one of my regular channels, I can get the match on my iPad. But, Catch-22, because my package doesn't include Esquire, I can't get it on Live Extra or X-tra Time, or whatever it's called.

So ...... I'll be following this thread and your many, many, many comments about the match, crowd, Howard, everything. Don't let me down.

This is where we find out whether or not we have progressed at all from last season
It is when teams come and park the bus that we have struggled as we have never had enough creativity to break them down

Looking to see if Robles seizes the moment considering the backlash Howard is recieving. If Robles manages a clean sheet then it only places Howard under more pressure to perform better, and a dillema for Martinez. If Robles doesn't show up then Everton must pursue a new GK in January.

Ask that question at the end of the campaign. If you mean 'give him a new contract in order to increase his sell point' then I can understand, but I hope he's not plucked away, and he strikes me more of the 'grounded in playing football than making tons of money' type, no?

It will be interesting to watch how Martniez handles Baines' reintroduction into the squad. I can't see it being like the Howard, Robles scenario from last season where, as this time, Baines slots right back in as if he never left. Galloway is playing for keeps and I hope Baines is up to the challenge of fighting his way back into the side. All the better for inter-competition.

If Everton were to offer a new contract it would be quite hefty- I imagine.

ForEverton2 reacted to Elston Gunnn in Squad Depth after the Transfer Window
I've imported StevO's post from the Mirallas thread, as my "thinking aloud" here goes beyond Mirallas and wingers.

Despite the disappointment of the failure to sign a #10, our squad depth looks pretty solid after all, right?

It seems reasonable to assume Pienaar will never fully recover enough to be a major factor. It will be nice if he can contribute at all. McGeady, I'd have to think he wants out in January, and that Roberto will try to grant him his wish. If we think of Deulofeu, Mirallas, and Lennon as our main winger options, there's some real talent there. And Cleverley may fill in there, as well as serve as Barkley's backup at times. Plus, Oviedo may actually play more at LW than LB, given Galloway's impressive development, and the return of Baines (January?) and then Garbutt next season.

As for strikers, we can at least be optimistic that Lukaku will score goals, even while driving (some of) us crazy. Neither Kone nor Naismith is exactly a dependable backup, but Kone has gifts, and Naismith is a tireless worker and intermittently effective poacher. Can't blame Naismith if he wants out, but I hope he gets enough time on the pitch and the occasional goal to satisfy him, not to mention us.

The #10 is still an issue, and I don't see Barkley as a #10, but he appears to have the ball at his feet a whole lot, in the middle of the pitch and pushing forward. And Cleverley will surely play somewhere, including all over the pitch in midfield. So ..... is a #10 still absolutely a priority in January or next summer? Does it depend on whether Barkley's football brain matures this season?

Defenders -- Back in summer, I vaguely recall we kind of assumed both Galloway and Browning would go out on loan, depending on the Stones drama. Galloway likely to stay up all season, yes? Browning still might be loaned out? Stones saga settled until January, July, or for several years? I assume it will still be a "saga" (too) soon enough. Galloway's rapid development is a big plus, as he can play either position on the left in the back. Between him, Garbutt, Browning, Funes Mori, and ...... Stones, the future looks promising. Very promising if Stones becomes a lifelong Toffee.

DCM's -- Looks like Roberto may stick with 2 DCM's. Gibson probably isn't exactly a DCM, but then anything we get from him is a bonus. Such impressive passing, so I hope he plays as much as possible, giving both McCarthy and Barry some rest. Longer term, I myself am high on Besic, as he's a good dribbler in traffic, has a wonderful ability to protect the ball while pivoting away from trouble, and can pass long. A red card waiting to happen, of course, but he looks part of our future.

GK -- Roberto was quoted somewhere as saying Howard shows no signs of retiring, but I don't know about that. I'd think next summer signing a young GK would be a priority.

Because of Cleverley's good early showing, Galloway's surprising maturity, Lennon's expected solid work, Barkley's outstanding physical skills, Deulofeu's speed and impressive skills, Garbutt's return, and the hope that the Belgians will become consistent, we're a real threat for top 4, maybe now, likely next several seasons?

As I write this "thinking aloud" post, I've convinced myself our squad depth is very strong, limited not by lack of talent or depth, but by too many injuries. Am I hallucinating (more than usual)?
