  1. I think this is a very clever piece of business. I've thought well of Gera for years, and if we do get him on a free, as it appears we will, I'm delighted. He has a touch of class, he'd be a squad player obviously at first, but able to fight for a place in the first team. I think he could play on either side, and given the need for rotation, injuries, suspensions etc, he gives us options in wide areas. For those who are worried cos he's a free, I don't for a moment think we're limited to free transfers. I think we will spend quite well this summer on the right people, but we need to flesh the squad out a bit, and not just with limited, average players. We need quality, and depth in quality. Ideal piece of business. Talented player, Hungarian captain, good professional by all acounts. Great start to our summer business, if it goes through smoothly.
  2. I don't think democracy is perfect, and that's why the number of votes for different people doesn't represent how good/bad they've been. You hear some fans on phone-ins and that sort of thing, and you wonder if they watched the same game. Let's be honest, how many times do you talk to someone about a game, and, as passionate as they are, it's obvious their understanding of the game is really bad, and they don't realise at all where the game was won and lost? Obviously people have different opinions, and I'm sure I'm wrong about plenty of things, but you can get a sense when you're talking to someone if they understand the ins and outs of a game, whether you agree or not. Having said that, I don't think anyone can argue with Joleon
  3. I think its a question of what you're realistic goals are, to judge your relative success. It's no good comparing Everton and Liverpool on an equal footing, because they have access to much more cash through Champions League revenue, and a larger fanbase. For Liverpool, they have spent large amounts of cash for years, under Houllier and Benitez, and have gotten no closer to the Prem. In those terms, although they've done well in Europe, they have failed in their main objective. You won't get many Liverpool fans arguing with that. They don't like it when an Everton fan points it out, but its the sort of thing they say to each other. For us, considering the massive financial gulf between us and the top 4, 5th is realistically the best we can do at the moment. It's a fantastic achievement, and a credit to Moyesy and the players. Also looking at the money spent by Spurs, Newcastle, Man City, West Ham, Pompey it shows again how much more difficult it is to get in the Uefa. So realistically, given what we can aim for, we are a happy club with fans who are happy, knowing we have finished pretty much as high as we can at the moment. The overall point I think, is to be honest with yourself and your ambitions. That's why us finishing 5th is a real success (and I believe we weren't at all far away from winning the Uefa), and that's why Liverpool have failed again to match their ambitions and aims. If David Moyes was given the money that has been given to Houllier and Benitez over years and years, you can absolutely guarantee we would be closer than Liverpool are to the title.
  4. No doubt he's a classy young player. As with a lot of young talent around the world, those of us who played Champ Man/Football Manager have known about him for years. I doubt we're one of the 2 clubs talking to him, considering Moyes said he doesn't even know what budget he has to work with yet (which, if its true, is ridiculous, considering other clubs are doing business, and we were obviously only gonna finish 5th or 6th). I honestly think you could do away with our scouting system, and simply get people to play Football Manager and speak to the makers of it and see who the best young players are. They have been right about so many players who are now some of the best players in the world - Tevez, Macherano, Banega, Messi, Ronaldo, Agger, Hleb, Robinho, Higuain, Silva, Iniesta, Ibrahimovic, Kaka etc etc etc. Back to Zarate. We don't have the luxury to spend £10m on a young talent. We'd be better going for an established talent like Arshavin who would be ready to influence and improve our team immediately.
  5. I think we need a creative forward player, with a little bit of magic. Against big teams, we've lacked that little bit of magic to open things up. Obviously, I don't think we'd get him now, but a Robbie Keane type player would complement the Yak perfectly. We need someone to drop into difficult spaces and have a touch of class to beat a man, open a defence up. Arshavin would be ideal, if he's available.
  6. The main issues for me are these. Why do we have to wait until the last ball is kicked to sort out Moyes' contract?...at other clubs, chairmen and managers are in constant discussions. We obviously needy Moyesy to sign the contract, not a single person would disagree with that...so why hasn't Kenwright sorted this out months ago? Moyes is our biggest asset, full stop. Why leave any room for doubt or speculation. If Moyes wants to know his transfer budget for the summer, TELL HIM! Just get him signed for Christ's sake. Ther other thing is related. Why do we have to wait until the end of the season to discuss transfer targets?? Other clubs are doing business and have been doing business for weeks!! Has Kenwright learned nothing about missing out on targets? Just what exactly is Kenwright doing with his time?? He is the fucking chairman. It strikes me that his biggest concern is keeping our fantastic manager, and keeping him happy by giving him a better transfer kitty. Why do we hear things like 'I'm going to speak to the chairman about transfers next week'? Next week!!! Kenwright, get off your fucking arse. You should be in constant dialogue with Moyes, phoning him about funds, making approaches for players, signing Carsley up. If you don't sort this on the pitch stuff out, there's no point even worrying about stadiums etc. Sort your fucking priorities out, and lets actually behave like a club going places. Let's be a leader in the transfer market. I know we won't have the funds others have, but you can decide on a budget, decide which players that might be leaving, decide on your targets and make early moves for them. We are an attractive club to join. Let's use that fact, and be pro-active for once. I appreciate we aren't the richest club around, but if we conduct our business properly and professionally, we can make important moves before other clubs who are less attractive to join than us.
