I think it depends on the manager, some a pretty stubborn in how they want to play where as others will adapt and may over time try to steer things to what they'd prefer. A manager that can't adapt really isn't worth having unless they are coming into a side that matches their philosophy. A smart side like Brighton ensured that they replaced Potter with a manager who could continue his job rather than wanting to change everything. This also makes things much more simple so far as building a squad goes. A flaw in Martinez was he tried to get players passing it round and playing possession football, at times it often ended with either mistakes leading to goals or fans screaming for players to hoof it forward because there players on the ball didn't have the nouse to know what to do with it when confronted by a wall of opposition players. I don't think he'd have us top of the long ball table though! Note on the above, Brentford also play a fair amount of long balls but a lot more of them reach a target! Teams on our level in Bournemouth and Sheffield United have similarly low success rate but haven't attempted as many.

I'd love to see us with Potter as manager and I've thought about this and just can't see at the moment that he'd want it. I might be wrong but he still has a very good reputation despite his Chelsea failing, he's been a manager at a very well run club and whilst he didn't spend a lot they did have money to spend. Whilst he's unlikely to get a top 4 job as his next job and Everton could be a good potential job for him I think he'd want to see a big change in the way the club is run before he'd consider taking the job on. It's going to be a while before we get a change of ownership, and ignoring the fact that no one has much confidence in the likely new ownership it'll be a while before we see benefits of change. I'd definitely be hoping we'd be trying to get him if we did decide to get rid of Dyche though.

The 4minutes was bizarre when you consider how they've been giving stoppage time this season. That said we wouldn't have scored with another 30 minutes. Some good defending but so poor on the ball, didn't see any glame plan besides sticking in as long as possible . Never got the ball into Beto or down the wings which you would expect to be the plan. Great return to the team for Mykolenko. Dealt with Saka brilliantly.

I'm sure once the sale is completed we will get a statement from 777 saying that Bill will be staying on to assist with his vast knowledge and experience of Everton football club. It's like having your granddad living with you, selling the house the he says behind in the basement popping up to pass on his advise to the new owners every now and then.

Overall I'd say there were a lot of positives from the performance here. The main negative would be we give away too many chances. A lot of the improvement was down to having a hard working strong forward leading the line who can receive the ball but while Danjuma got a lot of criticism for errors you could see he will thrive on a player like Beto, he was always looking to make runs for him which is just what Beto needs. We looked to move it forward quickly, got players in the box and you could see what they were trying to do. Still a bit of a lack of end product or final ball at times but there were some real positives. Unfortunately, we've squandered chances to win 3 of the easier fixtures in the league whilst trying to get to this position and will have to produce another surprise win against Arsenal if we are to pick up our first 3 points next game. (4 wins in our last 6 says we have a chance!)

Beto followed by Braithwaite for me. Beto bullied the centre backs, looked to take the ball on, play others in and make runs all the time. Great work rate as well. Braithwaite quality composed performance, don't see him losing his spot now. Pickford of course saved us again and overall had a solid game throughout. Patterson looked much better today also, got forward well and did well at the back though their attacking players put us under no pressure when they lost the ball.

From where I was it looked like they'd scored twice over! Great save and follow up with a just a little luck! Couple of other decent saves as well, can't really fault him for the goal

Seems unlikely just because too good to be true. Would be an excellent upgrade on Gueye improving our passing out of the back massively supporting and linking our defence and midfield in a much better way. This kind of player would help the defence but also enable Onana and Doucoure to perform better

I wouldn't be celebrating his leaving but it's a sensible move if he's not going to sign a new contract. I'd really like to have seen him given more time in the middle as more of a 10. I think we would have seen more output from him in that position but no one has really fancied him there for any length of time.

No one has deemed it worthy of a post so far so i'll put one up! These are bottom of league 2 so if we can't find the net in this game we really are doomed! These lower league teams can prove tough though so it would be good to see us really go at them and look to dominate the game. I'd make a few changes but play a "strong" team. Virginia Patterson Branthwaite Godfrey Mykolenko Garner Doucoure Onana Danjuma Chermiti Dobbin Some don't like changing keeper but with our solid vetran Begovic now gone I think we should be giving Virginia game time here, he quitted himself well in the pre-season also. I'd happily see Tarkowski playing with Branthwaite but happy for Godfrey to get a run out. Mykolenko needs some game time and old man Young should get a break. If Coleman is fit i'd get him on the right but I don't think he is. If we had any other fit wingers i'd consider a 4-4-2 leaving Doucoure out but as we don't I'd play it this way with Danjuma on the right and Dobbin on the left, plenty of pace between them with Doucoure running through the middle and Garner given a chance to play in his more natural position in the centre. Hoping for a solid 4-0 win with at least 2 of the front 3 getting their first goals for us! Really it'll probably be a scrappy 1-0 or 2-1 win!

I'm going to this game, my first away game in a long long time. Looking forward to visting an older stadium than Goodison! However the downside is I'm going in with the Sheffield United crowd going with a couple of season ticket holders who had a spare seat! Everton haven't done much to make me celebrate so far this season but hopefully they do this time! Surely Calvert-Lewin should be available for this game now and if so I'd expect him to start with Beto and Chermiti on the bench. It would be good to have Danjuma and Dobbin start but I don't think he'll drop Garner so will drop Dobbin.

They are indeed, journalists ask leading questions that that they are unlikely to get straight answers on then pester a bit more until they get a shitty response in most cases! He's clearly frustrated by the lack of transfer activity, must like Lampard was but knew it would be tough when he joined. Losing the first 2 games doesn't put us in a desperate situation, as he points out we had a lot of good chances against Fulham and played fairly well, this does expose our major issue which has been on going which is that we don't have many players that can take those chances. Against Villa we were poor but I would have expected us to lose to them anyway with the way they have played in the back end of last season. Emre has proven a very good signing for them and he's got them playing some good stuff. Obviously how bad our performance in that game was the bigger issue. With the fixture list we've been given though it certainly is vital that we pick up at least 3 points from the next 2 games at home to Wolves and away to Sheff Utd. We were dealt a decent opening run in doing so it meant we needed to hit the ground running. Not getting transfers complete until the end of the window and dealing with injuries could leave us in a poor position with a few 'better' fixtures gone. -- Anyway, on to Wovles, I'm going with a 4-4-2, actually putting Maupay in the team! I thought he was poor when he came on against Villa but apart from his usual missed chances he didn't have a terrible game against Fulham and in a 4-4-2 where he's playing just off of Dobbin he maybe able to help create space for Dobbin. The lack of much else in the way of options made me feel this is the best we can put out at the moment. Pickford Patterson Tarks Branthwaite Young Garner Gana Onana/Doucs Danjuma Dobbin Maupay I'm undecided between Onana and Doucoure. Keane needs to be dropped and Branthwaite given a go. I'd have Danjuma pushing on more and looking to cut in and support the front 2 whilst Garner sits a bit further back, also allowing Patterson to push on more.

assume we must surely get a loan fee on this, we're not paying all of his wages and no agreement to sell, basically just losing a player out of the squad with no upside! either that or it is to sweeten a deal for Che Adams

I'd forgotten he'd played at Bournemouth, seemed to struggle to make an impact when joining them in the Premiership then won their player of the year in the championship with 15 goals and 7 assists. Any idea what led him to be out of favour at Villareal? He had a good record in his first season with them with 18 goals including 6 in Champions League but last season barely got a look in before getting his January loan. Great attacking addition, we've really lacked having a player that's a a genuine goal threat that can hit double figures

has better records outside of Premier league matches but his record in Premier League isn't great. 20/21 he did ok with a goal ever 121 minutes but apart from that he's been poor.

To be fair we could probably sell Onana at a tidy profit this season after not that amazing a first season last year. Sure he wasn't as cheap as Gnoto but similar situation. You might not pay as much but you will always have a risk of a player not managing it in the Premier league and the price for Gnoto is really not that high. If he were to have a good season with us at his young age he would straight away be increasing in value, same goes for Elanga. Sando Ramirez - joined as at the age of 22 after a good season at Malaga and potential having come through Barcelona, just 8 games and several loans later he left on a free! On the other hand we signed John Stones for 3.5m and sold him for 55m (numbers may not be accurate as i'm seeing them in euro!) DCL joined for 1.8m and had he not had his injuries could have easily gone for a similar price to Stones. You win some you lose some but overall I'd say getting young player for less than 20million that has some PL experience and plenty of potential is nothing to be sniffed at.

watching this video and he appears to have played plenty on both right and left wings. A majority like to have games on the opposite side to their stronger foot just as because it makes it more likely for them to get goals. Looks fast and tricky and can score goals. Definitely something we're lacking. A different kind of winger to McNeil Seems fairly similar to Gnotto and both young fast players who have international caps already and can score goals. Elanga at half the price is probably our preference!

don't disagree but we have lost out to Spurs on a good few players. Because of that I think it's an easy link for the media to put in, despite performing much better than us in the league for a good while now we still often seem to go for different players.

Maybe one day someone will look at the the relative success of choosing Spurs over us and realise we're not such a bad option! The amount of players that have either gone from us to them or chosen to go to Spurs instead of us seem pretty high and most of the time those players have done f'all whilst at Spurs.

Spoke to a Villa season ticket holder at work and he said 100% he'd say he's worth a years contract as would most other Villa fans. he's still performing very well and still very fit, just not quite got as much pace as he had. It's not the kind of first signing you want to see for the manager and as such they really need to follow him up with a decent attacking signing that isn't free or approaching retirement! So far as a low price cover at left back goes as well as being able to cover other positions if required he ticks all the boxes. While like many commenting back in 2010 I wasn't a big fan of him as a younger player, he has worked hard as a professional keeping playing at the top level over the last few years and i'm sure with his experience he's a top player to have in the squad. I'd like to hope that between Patterson, Coleman, Garner and Young we won't be without a right back this season. Whilst at Left back it would give us 2 options
