  1. Very hot and cold again tonight. Practically useless when the team are without the ball but the more Spain got in the game the more he started to pull the strings. I really don't see him making an impact at Barca.
  2. Thought he looked solid again tonight without being anything special. Good link up play, likes getting ball to feet and spreading it wide. Always on the move too. Needs to beef up a little to play up top on his own.
  3. Yeh it's huge. Most lads I know do their bollocks every weekend, clinging on to the big win they had 5 years ago. The FBOTS Mike mentioned are the worse. You play long enough you will lose and people feed money in them all day.
  4. Good point, it's been something we have lacked. Rather have a leader mentality and slightly lower quality player than the other way round.
  5. I didn't say that any team should be filled with stars from 1 to 30. The point is don't buy someone who is happy to sit on the bench and pick up a wage. As I mention in my post above. You either trust Kenny or you get a starter in, because you don't know when or how Coleman will come back.
  6. Exactly the point Newty. Going back on point more with Coleman, I wouldn't be confident that he is going to come back the same player. I think we need to approach the season ahead with the decision as to whether Kenny is or isn't good enough. If he isn't, we need to get someone in. If he is then stick with him and Holgate can fill in if needed. In some ways the Europa will help this year because Koeman will see him competitively for a few games before the window closes.
  7. I think we will have both this year. Lots of games (hopefully) and lots of money.
  8. I didn't say it was easy to do but it should always be the aim. In reality the Baines situation is an easy one as we DO need a top class replacement for Baines. We maybe have a year left to bed someone in. Either a young lad comes in with the aim that he is ready this time next year, or you buy someone to relegate Baines to the bench and Baines becomes the understudy. Why would you buy or pay wages to someone not as good as Baines, who will never be better than the current Baines when you want to win as many games of football as you can?
  9. No not having it. Professional footballer 12 yards out should be sticking it in the corner every time, or high into the roof of the net at the least. bar Vidal's penalty if the keeper goes the right way he saves it. Vidal's was unreal, pace, bend, side netting the rest were absolute filth for players of their calibre.
  10. Made me laugh that one of the commentators mentioned how good Sanchez' penalty was. It was probably the worst of the lot and been easily saved had the keeper gone the right way!
  11. You are being illogical. Why buy players who aren't deemed good enough to play week in week out in the number 1 spot? How does that push the current number 1? Why would you want players who have the mentality that they are happy to be on the bench? Always buy either players to replace the first teamers or youngsters who can make the grade with time. Otherwise you are reducing the quality of the pool of players and the mentality of the group.
  12. Yeh that's exactly how it works. Look at Mirallas or McCarthy. We're brought into the first team, now they may or may not be surplus and may want to leave if they aren't playing because someone else has come in ahead of them. Martinez taught us to not buy back ups. It doesn't work.
  13. No no no. Don't buy back ups, don't buy squad players. If they aren't good enough to start week in week out then they shouldn't be brought in.
  14. All 3 in their midfield looked class. The guy who had Dani on his back is going to be some player.
  15. Thought he got caught out a few times tonight.
  16. Holgate should have done more in that situation (not the first time) but Baker should have been attacking that ball as the front post man. I just watched it back and he doesn't know whether to stick or twist!
  17. Completely agree. Really disappointed with the quality at times. Pickford was the best passer in the team!
  18. I agree, he will go to a CL club if he goes.
  19. Same old Gerry for me tonight. Equally brilliant and frustrating. Well maybe not so brilliant but the one thing that epitomised him today was that he got 1 v 1 against the full back, but had a man free 8 yards out. Instead of playing the cutback he tries his step over and kicks the ball into touch for a goal kick. On the other side of the pitch Asenjio who doesn't have that x factor Gerry has, get 1 v 1, lays it off to Saul who puts it in the back of the net.
  20. That's so everyone can run to Skybet and get their money on him to go to Madrid. Watched this today and he is lively. Great feet and work rate, doesn't stop moving, reminds me a bit of Sanchez in that he is trying shots when he shouldn't and they are blocked but at least he has a go. Decision making looks good too.
