  1. Sucker punched again. Completely inexplicably too with Tarkowski switching off.

I thought there were a lot of positives to take from the game. Onana had another good performance, Doucoure was as busy as ever, Branthwaite stepped up in his first appearance of the season, Patterson was solid too.

I thought Young and Gueye had poor games. Danjuma looks a bit toothless at the moment. Garner played some quality balls but I wasn't that impressed by his overall game.

As for Dobbin, there is promise there because of his energy and directness but he needs to add quality and composure to his game at the moment (an Everton theme).

You can only think that if we had our best front 3 of McNeil, Dom and Harrison playing together, we would have battered Wolves today.

  2. Pretty good performance so far, we do need to take one of these chances otherwise it will end up like the Fulham game again. They have shown glimpses of how their energy in midfield could cause us (Gana) problems.

The whole back 4 have looked pretty solid, Young being the one that is caught out against the livelier Neto. Im not sure they will get it as easy 2nd half.

Im not sure what to make of the forwards. Danjuma has Maupay's boots on. Dobbin provides energy but lacks quality and Doucoure is his cumbersome self (with lots of effort).

Need to keep going and make something stick.

But he was better there than Holgate and Godfrey, but we had to go through a lot of shit and pain before he conceded he had got it totally wrong, and it obvious whether you believe he’s good enough or not he was the best option.

    I'm not sure he is!

  4. I am not quite sure how this goes.

Both teams can't hit a barn door with a banjo. Wolves looked great against United on the transition but a lot of teams will if they continue to play the same way (unlikely now Mount is injured). I have big doubts about whether they will replicate that performance elsewhere. I didn't see last weeks game against Brighton, but we showed last season that Brighton are a team that can be transitioned on and whilst they got battered, it seems they did create some decent chances against them as well. My fear is that we will play into their strengths by being a bit too 'gung ho' as the home team wanting to get our first points on the board. If they score early, the crowd will turn and it will just play more and more into their hands. Cunha in particular was fantastic at using his strength and pace to drag Wolves up the pitch and he will need to be shackled (Onana). Thankfully Nunes is out as he has similar qualities. I am not sure who will play out wide but they are largely all technically excellent but missing that final ball at the moment.

At the back, whilst I am a Kilman fan, Dawson is creaking, Semedo is an iffy defender at best and Ait-Nori is more of an attacking threat than a defender. Sa is also reckless in goal. If you can turn Wolves over and get at them directly with speed, you can have so much joy. United should have exploited this but messed up the final ball repeatedly and Brighton put them to the sword. I would like to see Maupay (best option) dropping into the hole dragging a centre back out of position and have Danjuma/Dobbin from the left getting past the last man, or Doucoure making his rampaging runs forward. Let Wolves mess around with aimless possession, but when we get it, hit them hard and hit them early on the break. It is a game where Dom would have made such a difference as relying on Maupay is scary.

He did the same to Patterson last season even basically saying he felt he was no where near good enough, so when Coleman got injured he tried every possible scenario to keep Patterson out, until he had no option but to play him, and low and behold he played well and has remained in the starting 11. I do think that sometimes Dyche will cut off his own nose despite his face rather than back down on his first impression of a player, but I also like the fact that he is his own man and stands by his beliefs.

He is right, Patterson is nowhere near good enough!

Partly because we can’t shift the shite already here for anything. I get it, he may do okay and we get a fee in Jan/next Summer but we’re so bad at shifting surplus players.

I imagine an option to buy is a bit of a waste of time for Holgate as many clubs wont be able to afford him at the silly money we have given him.

All true.  Consensus here, and about anywhere else I've read, is that we're a decent striker between relegation and survival.  In which case, pay it, whatever the consequences re FFP and/or sell whatever bits of China we have left.

We said that about players in January and look how well they did for their respective clubs!

To be fair, he made good on his word. We got Chermiti 🙃

    Danjuma also plays up top.

  8. Some interesting responses from Myers to this Tweet.

MSP still loaning £100m for the stadium. Tboughts it could have led to greater investment in the club, however consent to sell a stake in the club was never given so negotiations could not continue (for obvs reasons).

The final point seems a strange one.

  9. There are days when even the very best sides just dont get it right. You only have to look back at Villa's last game as an example.

Villa are a very good side, playing good football and they broke us down and we couldn't adapt. Them scoring first and early was always a huge problem as couldn't play on the counter and the injuries to Dom and the penalty decision took the game away further.

Given the difference in levels of ability when compared to our squad and others in the league combined with the contrast in management styles, if these good sides are on it, they will beat us with relative ease.

I know a few Southampton fans and they all rate him and say they are gutted he is going but get it because he is way too good for the Championship

This was a comment on one of their forums from todays match

    Travesty if Che goes.

I know he’s worth £12m odd, but he’ll get us a 30 goal haul this season, that’d take us back to the EPL and that’s worth far more to the club, surely?

There is no way Che Adams is way too good for the Championship!

He is the perfect player at that level. He would more than likely chip in with enough goals to take them into promotion places but that doesnt mean a lot to a Premier League team that doesn't create a lot of chances.

He will do well in the Championship, so will plenty of other players but it doesnt mean they are good enough.

I get the logic with Adams, I just think its dangerous to sign someone who has shown his level (low end EPL at best).

  11. Whilst I think Villa are a decent side, that was pretty fucking abject.

It is one of those where I look at the game and wonder what the hell where they working on during the week.

It should have been a counter attack game where we sat deep and played off them, but we met them far too high up the pitch, which with our back line is a massive issue. Maybe the first goal changed that plan?

I dont think there were many positive performances. In particular I thought Keane, Patterson and Gueye were particularly attrocious. The middle seemingly unable to weight a pass correctly, leading to lots of transitions. The former found it possible to get close to his man. I dont necessarily find too much individual fault with any of the goals (3rd being a massive team fuck up switching off and 4th being a bad decision by Young) but I do think he was so far off the level you expect.

We also have a problem with every wide player wanting to play from the left. Danjuma wants it (shite through the middle btw), Dobbin wants it, Iwobi is best there and its McNeils best position).

Worst of all was midfield. Onana and Gueye were bloody awful. Doucoure didnt help them out as much as he needed to. I didnt think Garner was an improvement either.

Write it off and move onto a big game next week.
