Jordan Pickford was a goalkeeper before he came here!

Kompany and Vertonghen both played a lot of defensive midfield as well early on in their pro careers as well. I remember thinking Vertonghen would be a better defensive midfielder than a centre back even. Neither turned out to be a 'jack of all trades, master of none'.

I have always backed Pickford but that ends today. What he did in todays game was embarrassing, shambolic, and just plain fucking stupid.
We're not replacing him in this window, and probably not the next, but we have to go all out for a keeper at the end of the season (be as proactive as we were with the midfield this off-season). No getting someone in to push him, we pay big and we buy better than him.

Didn't necessarily have a bad game, but he didn't really add anything either, and I don't think he will in the future either as a more advanced midfielder as his main strength is ball retention. Would love to see James in his place in the middle with Allan and Doucouré. Add Walcott's pace on the right.

Kudos to the Everton owners and management team. Despite the disappointments of Koeman and Silva, they’re willing to spend to support their manager. Third time lucky. You can’t blame a lack of commitment, that’s for sure.

That’s not the same Walcott I’ve been watching for me his Achilles heel has been his final ball, but his general play has been better than most, he moves and makes himself available he tracks back and helps his RB out, he still has a fair bit of pace and has one the best engines in the team.
Strange how we can be so far apart with our opinions on certain players.

Agree with the second paragraph but Bolasie was never good enough.

Definitely one of. Think you could argue Bolasie was even worse. Read somewhere this past week he's still earning 70k a week off the club...
You'd have to imagine Sigurdsson earns even more though, given the fact that he cost more and was clearly the more accomplished player at the time.
Anyone happen to know when their contracts run out? Don't think you're getting rid of them any other way.

We are only eleven starting players away from being a decent side so could be an interesting window

Gutted today. Not arsed about the result, not arsed about the performance, not arsed about anyone else on that pitch today.
The man has been a class act, I’ve been lucky enough to meet him on quite a few occasions. A few times (in my 30’s) I’ve acted like a shy school girl around him and he’s still been sound.
Had one really weird week where I met him at my place of work, then at two different restaurants in town within a few days. The third time I said to him I’m not following you, I promise. And he laughed about it.
He shouldn’t be going out at an empty Goodison, he’ll probably be happy to not have the fuss, but he should have the crowd singing his name and letting him know how we all feel about him.
The best player of my generation, for many reasons, on and off the pitch. He’ll be missed.
    He’s one of us!

The best left back I’ve had the honour of watching. It was a joy to watch him play for us and I feel privileged to have witnessed him week in, week out.
The only disappointing thing is that he couldn’t showcase his talent on the international stage due to England not playing like us in any way, so he couldn’t show his true ability.
    Thank you, Leighton.

Not a nice way for a proper legend to go out.... sharing a pitch with a bunch of half arsed millionaires.
Thanks for the memories Leighton, a genuinely brilliant player, ambassador and the best left back I've seen in a blue shirt.  You deserved far better than that today.

It’s official then, he has retired from football, what a desperately disappointing way for the naughtiest left back in football to bow out 😞

Got to be one of the worst signings we’ve made, if not the very worst.

I've been impressed everytime I've seen him. The stats suggest he's one of the better players in the league as well:
12th in the league in successful dribbles, 1st in total distance he's moved the ball while controlling it with his feet towards the opponent's goal, 8th in expected assists,  2nd in key passes,  3rd in passes into the penalty area,  13th in amount of progressive passes, 2nd in shot creating actions (passes, dribbles, drawing fouls) ... Didn't know about the possible character issues though. Either way I don't think we'd be able to afford him, just wanted to say I think he's good. Clear level above the rest of the players on the pitch yesterday.

Dominated the game is a bit much, no? Having a lot of the ball, not even coming close to scoring a goal for 90 minutes, while the other team does, isn't dominating the game.
I thought Grealish was perhaps a bit overhyped by the pundits earlier in the season, but he really is class.

To put that into perspective we have two members ( no pun intended !) in here who still think Idrissa Gana Gueye was shite

Financially, it's probably wisest to give Pickford an opportunity to get better.
Especially because the very clear priority should be to get a completely new starting midfield in. Two central midfielders, left wing, right wing. I'll roll with the same attack and defense next year to make that happen.

Those three at the back for Arsenal are woefully bad. Mustafi sliding in as Kane leisurely strolled past him was perhaps the most embarassing bit of defending I've seen in some time (didn't result in a goal).
