MikeO
The womens team beat Arsenal 1-0 tonight in the League Cup final. Big upset....Arsenal have been virtually unbeatable for ages, good on ya lasses!!!
Romey 1878
It's about time we beat them in the ladies game. Played them a few times in finals and lost. Congrats.
MikeO
They won everything domestically plus the UEFA cup last year. Great achievement to beat them...didn't know Iain Dowie's neice played for us! Edited February 28, 2008 by MikeO

cismo
Congratulations. Well done How is the keeping of ladies soccer there, in England? Here in Spain is virtually nonexistent
Bill
Not as good as it should be imo, years ago it used to be Doncaster Belles that was winning everything but now its Arsenal, tho over the last few seasons Everton have become stronger, but it needs several others to make it stronger rather than just the two teams. MikeO
Agree Bill. Wasn't it Fulham who went full time pro for a while? Didn't last sadly. The England squad for a European qualifying game next week contains.. Eight Arsenal players, six from Everton and only five from other teams (Chelsea x 2, Leeds x 2 and Birmingham). Even the pro league in America, where Kelly Smith (from Arsenal, supposedly England's best and one of the world's best) played has shut down. It's a shame. Bill
Just shown the Highlights on SSN Mike, they said that Arsenal are Professional and Everton are still Amateur. Well done again to the Blue Belles of Goodison.
zequist
Even the pro league in America, where Kelly Smith (from Arsenal, supposedly England's best and one of the world's best) played has shut down. It's a shame. True that, it's been shut down for about five years now, but a new group is going to attempt a revival next year, under a new name and using a much more sensible business plan than the first league had. I hope it sticks this time...I used to go watch San Jose play in the old WUSA (was at their first-ever game, actually) and I quite enjoyed it. The team was entertaining to watch, and they had a couple of the elite Brazilian women on their roster which in turn attracted a group of Brazilian fans who came out to every game, singing and playing their samba drums...it made for a great atmosphere. Louis
Up until last year or the year before, the ladies had to buy their own kit from the club shop.. it shows you how far they've come in a short time.
EFCfanatic
Their league is all over the place though! Some have played 16 and some otheres, ourselves included have only played like 6! Nevertheless thats a class one for the laydees. Somet for the cabinet innit?! Edited March 1, 2008 by EFCfanatic
MikeO
Arsenal had won fifty-eight consecutive games dometically until this . Makes it an even greater achievement!
