Bill Posted March 13, 2008 Report Share Posted March 13, 2008 Are all Evertonians aware that the Club have also turned down the chance of relocating to Walton Hall Park, as well as the Scotland Road "Loop Site", I think on the Grounds of Cost, but if you look at this article and way up the pro's and Con's both other sites would be Cheaper, and gain more in investment. The promotion of physical regeneration needs to be complemented by community development which contributes towards creating a city of mixed and diversified uses based on sustainable growth and economic development. Regeneration at the Kirkby sites involves demolition of a school, a nursing home and several houses. Economic Impact Good infrastructure is an integral part of modern city life. Increasing economic and social demands are raising the profile of city centres. The need for mobility and greater accessibility is placing greater need for an effective and efficient multi-modal transportation system and supporting infrastructure. The infrastructural network is well established but clearly requires new investments given the increasing demands placed on a city which is the economic driver for the region. The location of new development needs to reinforce better integration between land use and transportation by building upon the existing infrastructure base of the city. At the Kirkby site all new infrastructure development will be required. Infrastructure Impact Liverpool's long term success depends on building its reputation as the economic engine for the region. This means attracting new development and investment opportunity and providing Liverpool with the infrastructure to support the growing business base and attract new inward investment. This will depend on the quality of the product and in promoting Business Infrastructure Clearly Liverpool's city centre has in existence a well established and flourishing multiplicity of uses based on retail, accommodation, entertainment, bars, restaurants and other ancillary attractions. It is very difficult to manufacture these type of facilities on a new site outside of a city centre context and to ensure that the uses remain sustainable. In this regard the Kirkby development has very little in the way of support infrastructure and will ultimately draw on the facilities offered elsewhere at Kirkby Town centre but most likely Liverpool City Centre and Walton. However, such use will be much more limited. Sport & Leisure potential A city centre site can provide immediate facilities for a multiplicity of local sports and leisure interests. Its central location is a convenience to all. The Kirkby site can also provide such facilities, but is not convenient to as many sports and leisure communities. And how can anybody turn down a place in the park............................. Louis Posted March 14, 2008 Author Report Share Posted March 14, 2008 I'm swaying towards a redeveloped Goodison Park to be honest. One of the biggest problems is the Gwladys Street Primary School but I think the answer is this: Offer Liverpool County FA/Sports Centre an office in redeveloped Goodison (freeing up room in Walton Hall Park), in Scotland Queens Park own Hampden Park and the Scottish FA use it as their office. A county football association may jump at the chance of an office in a modern stadium imo. Build a new school on Walton Hall park (which'd keep the open space intact, school could be built for a larger capacity to accomodate future LCC plans (they intend to merge two schools by 2012) to keep them sweet about building on the park land. Bill Posted March 14, 2008 Report Share Posted March 14, 2008 Looking at that artists sketch of the stadium in the park it appears to have a sliding roof, there seems to be runners on the top of the stand, slide half across each goal end and the noise would be fantastic. Whatever happens or whichever site becomes a reality, fans should have another vote and if it came down to one of four...... Redevoped GP Walton hall Pk Scotland Rd Loop Tesco Kirkby I personally think Kirkby would be a Non Starter, the fans where Duped into thinking this was the only alternative, when in fact its been proved that it was'nt, and was chosen simply on the Basis that it was the cheapest, but that has also been shown not to be the case. Randomness Posted March 19, 2008 Report Share Posted March 19, 2008 yeah though that was back in 96ish wasnt it??, thats why LCC greenlighted any development of Goodison because between EFC and LCC they own all the houses that would stand in the way of redevelopment. the only people who dont want to redevelope...... is the people who run the club!! StevO Posted March 20, 2008 Report Share Posted March 20, 2008 Are you sure? yep, johnson got the school so he could turn Goodison round 90 degrees. he was going to build a new school on the eileen craven site near the club shop, and he got most of the houses around bullens and gwladys.
