Oztoffee
Seen lots on here about replacements for many positions except 'keeper. Have I missed something or have we uncovered a hidden gem from the Academy that we're pushing up to the top grade? Info and/or your thoughts please! MikeO
Hopefully DM has decided that Turner and/or Ruddy are ready for the responsibility. Think if they are ever going to be good enough they will be by now, specially Turner.
Heather_6
I prefer Ruddy to Turner TBH..
aaron
me too ^^^ He's a young english keeper, these young english keepers these days seem to be very good e.g. hart, foster, carson.
jamiemaher85
Not too sure on Ruddy, saw him play quite abit when he was on loan at walsall when they were in league 2 and he looked out of depth there. Sure he was still young, but still I think that we need someone better for cover than these two, at the moment anyway, who knows what the future holds. Bill
We've always got Jagielka, Warnock never had a goalie on the bench at Sheff Utd.

scouse
Isnt Ruddy going out on loan again leaving only Turner as backup well and Jags!
BedfordBlue
Ruddy was on loan at Rushden & Diamonds last season and was useless. Edited May 21, 2008 by BedfordBlue
MikeO
Ruddy was on loan at Rushden & Diamonds last season and was useless. He played three games at R&D in 2005 so it's a bit harsh to judge him on that I'd have thought .
Romey 1878
Well he's going to the play-off final with Stockport (?) this season and he was named player of the month for March so he's not doing too bad. In another loan period he only conceded like 2 goals as well I think. I'm another one who prefers Ruddy over Turner.
jamiemaher85
I still think that we need better cover than these two. I don't think they are ready yet. I think they might be decent in the future but neither of them are lighting the world up so I wouldn't want to take a risk with either of them to be honest. Bill
I think either of them will be OK, I mean how many times do you call on a goalie from the bench, cant remember doing it once the seaon just gone.

Exactly. I can't understand why people make such a fuss about Turner or Ruddy being our number 2.
jamiemaher85
But if Howard gets injured then we could be fucked. I don't have enough confidence in these two at the moment and think that if we want a strong squad then we need a decent back-up keeper otherwise we could find ourseleves in hot water. EDIT: Just seen Echo have linked us with a move for Maik Taylor Edited May 22, 2008 by jamiemaher85
Oztoffee
If Ruddy and /or Turner have been out at League 1 or 2 clubs on loan what makes you think they are ready to step up to the big-time? That's a hell of a big hill to climb - just ask Derby! Do we need a back-up keeper? Of course we do, that's why we got Wessels on board in the first place! If Howard's injured, would YOU want the team's season to depend on a bloke who played well for Rushden & Diamonds? (No disrespect meant to the lad). Bill
Both are under 18 and under 21 internationals and have played in Internatinoal Competion Tournaments, i think they are a bit better than RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS and STOCKPORT. And dont forget Big Neville, the best goalkeeper ever to wear the Everton shirt was playing for BURY in the mickey mouse league.
rozzie_22
Ruddy has kept 8 clean sheets from 12 games for stockport this season, and Iain Turner was outstanding for sheffield wednesday two seasons ago before he got injured. I really rate both keepers, so bringing in a replacement for howard without giving these two a chance is a poor idea. How can keepers step up to the plate to have experience if they dont play? they are both just kids aswell Like Licker said, big Nev played for bury before playing for the first team, whose to say Turner or Ruddy cant step up to plate for seasons to come? we would be better off investing our transfer funds in midfielders
