Uefa Draw

Recommended Posts

Benfica are best avoided, they've got to be considered as one of the teams to challenge for the title along with AC Milan. Dinamo Bucharest would be intresting, time to get them back for thier performance against us last time we met them. Hopefully we get Santander, they're an OK club, but I think we would do well against them. Just try and avoid Benfica, Santander and Galatasary, Galatasary would probably cause us problems both and and off the pitch.

Not playing any of those mate, it's not the group stage draw, just the first round so we get to play one of the unseeded teams I listed. Then if we win that we go into another draw for the group stage :) .

Just out of interest.

How the hell are the 'fair play' entrants in the competition a seeded team?

I may be being ignorant (apologies if I am), but do they have a recent record in this comp?

Just out of interest.

How the hell are the 'fair play' entrants in the competition a seeded team?

For seeding purposes, rankings are drawn up on the basis of a combination

of 33 per cent of the value of the respective national association’s coefficient

for the period from 2003/04 to 2007/08 inclusive (see Annex II, points 1 to 6)

and the club’s individual performance in the UEFA club competitions during

the same period. Each club retains the cumulative number of points obtained

during this period.

ANNEX II: Coefficient ranking system

1. The allocation of places per association for both the UEFA Champions

League and UEFA Cup will be made in accordance with a table of

performances covering five UEFA club competition seasons (i.e. UEFA

Champions League and UEFA Cup). This table (UEFA association coefficient

rankings) is compiled annually, with the oldest season dropped each time for

the purpose of the calculation.

2. The table is compiled as follows:

− a win to be worth 2 points (1 point for qualifying-round matches)

− a draw 1 point (½ point for qualifying-round matches)

− a defeat 0 points

Qualifying-round results are taken into account only for the calculation of the

association’s coefficient.

Until the 2003/04 season, clubs which reached the quarter-finals, semi-finals

or final of the UEFA Champions League or the quarter-finals, semi-finals or

final of the UEFA Cup were awarded an extra point for each such round. In

addition, one point was awarded for participation in the UEFA Champions

League.

As of the 2004/05 season, clubs which reach the first knock-out round,

quarter-finals, semi-finals or final of the UEFA Champions League or the

quarter-finals, semi-finals or final of the UEFA Cup are awarded an extra

point for each such round. In addition, three points are awarded for

participation in the UEFA Champions League.

Results obtained in the UEFA Intertoto Cup do not count for the coefficient

rankings determining the number of places in the UEFA Champions League

and UEFA Cup.

3. The points obtained each season by the clubs representing a national

association are added, then divided by the combined number of clubs from

the said association having taken part in the two UEFA club competitions in

question, to produce the coefficient value of the national association

concerned. Points obtained in the UEFA Intertoto Cup are exempt from this

stipulation, in accordance with point 2 above.

4. Coefficients are calculated to the thousandth, and not rounded up.

5. In the case of equal coefficients, the UEFA administration will take a final

decision, taking into consideration the individual coefficient of the most recent

season.

6. Points are awarded only for matches which have actually been played, in

accordance with the results ratified by UEFA. Kicks from the penalty mark to

determine which club qualifies, or the winner, do not affect the result used to

calculate the coefficient.

Hope that's clear  !

Yes this is a difficult draw epsecially the way they bossed Liverpool around for most of the game. All we need is for sumone to sell their soul and we will scrape through with a liverpoolesque last minute goal.

From the moment the redsh#te scraped their win on weds that was going to be the draw. Typical. They look a bloody could side, i know its what happens on the night but bloody hell that could be us concentrating on the domestic cups and league!!! I really liked being on channel five every other thursday to.

With a bit of luck they might lose a couple of players before the transfer window??!

Sorry, feel like a bit of a prat now :( but thanks for your help. I see we got Liege, hopefully we can pull something out of the bag. If we have another performance like Metalist our luck will probably have run out. We need to get a good result at Goodison. That needs to happen.

Very tough, I want to progress us in this competition. Actually the pressure might be off to a certain degree as they are a good side and so they will fancy their chances going into this too. We have the ability to get goals away so whilst going to Belgium with a decent advantage is what we all want, keeping them scoreless at GP is what is important. That's really what caused us the problems lasy year against Metallist. Things are never straightforward for us :)

Lets beat them to ensure there is no smug smirk on Alan Green's face!

If we think it's hard for us think how the Liege fans must feel.

They're proper Champions but have to qualify for the Champions League.

Despite that they're unseeded for the draw and they get one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

For long periods they outplay them but lose in the last minute through a defensive howler.

UEFA Cup draw and still (ridiculously imo) unseeded.

They get one of the top 5/6 favourites for the competition who had an incredible success rate last season.

Tough for us certainly but tougher on them

PS....found out whose fault it is that we drew them....

Liege look some team! If/ when the shite stumble past them, they'd be a tough team to meet in UEFA.

Oh dear! Will have to download Z-Cars now.

Fortunately, we know the way now. No new phrasebook needed.

Joseph Yobo used to live near my parents' place when he played for us.

What's the away fans' section like at Goodison in terms of comfort and view on the pitch? Is it comparable to what we got on the other side of the street (and it was great)?

Looking forward to meeting and beating you [on the pitch, that is], lads. Let's hope we fans get a good bit of banter

Haha!

Well you should be able to beat this lot, IMO. It wasnt their quality that rattled us but the fact that they were physical and played at a high tempo for 90 mins. We just couldnt handle it as we had no width, the fact that Gerrard was injured and the others bar Reina and Torres were just rubbish.

Mbokani is a good player though and he might trouble you.

Fellaini

He's stronger than Garbini

He's a big, strong lad

To his left, to his right

He makes every ball his

And he's stronger than Biglia (* Anderlecht - our worst enemies - defender/midfielder)

Rouches, please brush up your English otherwise I fear your posts won't be understood by many.

I'm getting more confident, I think we'll be a good force in Europe again so I don't see why we can't beat Standard at Goodison.

Hello !

I'm new here and I'm a Standard of Liège fan. I hope that the two teams will play a good football for the fun of everyone. Who will win ? Nobody knows but I hope the two teams will play their best football. Sure RFCL will win, but everything is possible. Good kuck.

Well I'm pleased you liked it, it was meant to be in part serious after you played them off the park both at home and in the cesspit. You now face us, a shame for you to be beaten by both Merseyside clubs :lol::lol:

Joking to one side you play good football, clear crisp passing from players with vision, I look forward to our meeting with your team and having a good game :)

PS a letter will follow nearer the game :lol:

im possibly going the away game in belgium, whats your ground like liege fans? and what are your fans like?

Standard Liege fans are no doubt the noisiest in Belgium and generally extremely friendly (bar the usual pair of idiots, but that's football for you).

The ground is next to the River Meuse and can accommodate ca. 30,000. It's an all-seater which was last revamped for Euro 2000. The away fans' section is in "Tribune 4" (River End)

Oh no! Not only is this draw a lot tougher than it should have been for Everton, but now I have to listen to Reds from TWO different countries on here for the next month. :P Ha ha, just teasing you fans of Les Rouches a little. Anyway, welcome to our little corner of the web! People around here know that while I'm an Everton fan first and foremost, I also follow the Belgian League too (as much as one can from the United States, anyway), but I'll try to keep my Anderlecht badge off my sleeve while you're all here (mostly). ;)

Mbokani did look useful for them, in the first half anyway, seemed to tire and fall away after the break though. It didn't seem like Liege had much to bring on against Pool as the match drew on. Anyways, why don't we just buy Fellaini, apparently he's available for about 5 million. ;)

You're not the only one with a dislike for the red colour, mate :D Our life-long rivals benfica have 'em too, so i feel much like you do.

But that vendictive woman (irony) does have a lot of fun with us mere mortals sometimes, doesn't she? not 2 days ago you we're rooting for liege, and now... :P

Maybe fewer Evertonians shouldn't have suggested before the first leg of the SL v L'Pool that SL were a crap team and it was another stuffy draw for L'Pool !!! Oh shit !!

I never even remotely suggested that believing Standard had an excellent chance of bring down Rafa's house of cards, which they nearly did. As DM says I think we can beat them

I don't remember seeing anyone saying anywhere that Liege were a crap team  .

Huge club with a long history....nine Belgian Championships and five Cups and been going since 1900.

Coincidentally exactly the same domestic roll of honour as us!
