Standard Liege (2nd Leg Away)

Recommended Posts

EvertonTV are showing it

EvertonTV is paper-view though isnt it? I'm wondering whether there is a streaming site that will allow me to watch the game for free. I remember last time when we played at home there was some random site that was posted in the '1st Leg' Thread and most of us were watching the game on it.

Channel 5 at 6.30 (6.40 ko).

If, for whatever reason, you can't get Channel 5 you'll find a stream here http://www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=...amp;part=sports

Thanks a lot for that Mike. I like to be on the forum when the game is on so I want to be able to watch it from my computer. I prefer to have music in the background too kick out any worries. :P

Cheers for the link.

Got some of the interviews off Evertonfc.com for those that are interested. I just got the talking parts because the text was facts we already know (Results, Fixtures, Name)

Tim Howard

"Last year we were resilient and we went there and got the goals we needed. They were a difficult side and now we are sitting here faced with the same challenge as last year so we hope we can draw on that experience."

"People say you want to play the away leg first but I have played European football for five seasons now and I am not entirely sure that is always the right way," he declared. People have been schooled to say that, but I see it differently. Okay, they have two away goals but we now know what we have to do and our goals are going to count for more. I think we are right where we want to be."

"The mood is still positive," he insisted. "It has to be. It’s no secret that we haven’t started the season the way we would like to have done. It hasn’t been up to out standards and everybody is trying to be part of the solution because if you aren’t then you are part of the problem. We have to go and win one game. You can pick it apart and dissect it but at the end of the day we have to win one game against a side we know we can beat."

Phil Neville

''We brag about how great the spirit is here – now we have got to show that it is not a myth,” said Neville.

''Things have not been going well so far but now we the players have got to put our balls on the line for this Club. We can’t have any regrets when we walk off the pitch on Thursday night – and I don’t believe we will. We have been building something for the past couple of years and we want it to come to fruition in the long-term – so we have got to believe we can win this game.''

''Let’s go over to Belgium thinking positively.''

“I’d be lying if I said everything has been plain sailing since we finished fifth," Neville conceded. "But they are things that should not really impact on us. I’ve heard suggestions that the manager’s contract has had an effect but that is not true.

“I’ve not heard it mentioned in the dressing room once. The only thing the players are bothered about is getting good results for this club and we are all hurting that we haven’t done that consistently yet. But, take it from me, we intend to change that this week

“If I’m honest, I think Liege are there to be beaten,” he continued. I saw them play Liverpool and I was impressed but sometimes there is a danger that you can build a side up to be better than they actually are. We need to have belief and look at the bigger picture. Yes they played well at Goodison but look at the goals they scored – they were both defensive errors. That tells it’s own story.

“I’m positive that we can go over there and score. We just have to keep things tight.”

Tony Hibbert

"I have been back training for a week and I felt alright in the first half. I was thankful that the gaffer gave me the nod and any local lad wants to play in the derby. It is a very big game," declared Hibbert, whose family were regulars on the supporters' European trips last season. The family keep me informed of the way days and it's great for the fans to have these trips. It is another cup and I think we should be better than what we are at the moment."

Quite a lots been said on here about how Liege have got a really good record at home but the way I see it these records are made to be broken, take Croatia for example before England played over there last month everyone built up loads of fuss about how they'd never lost a home competitive game but we went there and won easily. I'm not saying that we're gonna go over there and score 4 in fact I'm as worried about watching the game tonight as everyone else seems to be. I just think we need to save the negative comments etc. til the games over and get behind our team COYB!!!!!!

Shocking news if true. I'll check the Belgian press websites and keep you updated asap.

On a footballing note, tonight's has sold out. ca. 30,000 people should provide a great atmosphere.

Good luck tonight mate. I think we will need it more than you though!

TV link for tonight's game (commentary should obviously be in French, but does it really matter except you'll chuckle at the way english names are pronounced?): http://www.rtlinfo.be/others/livevideo/pop..._live_foot.html

Enjoy the game, have fun, have a couple of beers or TV dinner (or both) and see you again in over 2 hours (bar extra-time and pens) for the banter! COYR!

BTW, no news reports whatsoever about fights, stabbing etc.

David Moyes has handed Louis Saha a starting berth for tonight's Uefa Cup clash with Standard Liege.

The French international striker will partner Yakubu in attack as the manager makes two changes from the side that started against Liverpool at the weekend.

Marouane Fellaini is unavailable after playing for Liege in the Champions League qualifier, whilst Joseph Yobo drops out of the starting line-up in order to accomodate the return to the starting line-up of Leighton Baines.

Joleon Lescott will switch over from left back to the centre of defence alongside Phil Jagielka.

Leon Osman, Tim Cahill, Mikel Arteta and Phil Neville will fill the midfield positions.

Yobo has to settle for a place on the bench alongside Segundo Castillo, Nuno Valente, the fit-again Steven Pienaar, Jack Rodwell and Victor Anichebe.

It is Pienaar's first inclusion in an Everton squad this term after recovering from the broken toe he sustained against PSV Eindhoven in pre-season.

Everton: Howard; Hibbert, Jagielka, Lescott, Baines; Arteta, Neville, Cahill, Osman; Saha, Yakubu. Subs: Nash, Yobo, Valente, Rodwell, Castillo, Pienaar, Anichebe.

Didn't see Yobo's omission coming :o . Reserve judgment for now :) .

Thought Defour was very fortunate to stay on the pitch early doors, after the way he reacted to the ref!

Had all the possession but few if any decent attempts at goal.

WILL WE EVER KEEP A CLEAN SHEET?

Absolutely pathetic again, they looked so nervous in the first 10-15 mins but even then we didn't look remotely dangerous, as summed up by one of the worst free-kicks ever from Baines. The goal once again highlighted how inept out midfield are without Carsley sitting there, we just let the midfielder run for 20 yards unopposed to line up a shot which led to the goal. They're sitting back but we look so slow with our build up, we look even more embarrassing than in the derby as Liege are actually letting us have the ball but all we can do is pass sideways or backwards, there is absolutely no movement (particularly Yakubu who just seems content diving every 5 minutes). I'm a massive fan of Moyes but apart from last season when Pienaar, Osman and Arteta were in the same team we've virtually never played good football, it's a shambles today. I'll give him time to turn it around, as he deserves it on what he has done for the club, but I am starting to wonder whether he stumbled upon the 451 which worked so well, more due to blind luck than brilliant judgement as at the moment he doesn't seem to have a clue what formation/team/system to play. We look toothless.

The first fifteen minutes was living upto all the pre match "this is the game we turn it around" drool, that's been spilling out a lots lately. But since then, we've been average at best. Not one single shot on target....yet!!

I agree Hibbert is very poor and looks lost tonight, tbh i dont think Leige look any good i thought we had enough to win in the 1st game and still do here i just think Moyes has fucked it upto now with his tactics in the middle of the park.

Well that was utter shite. There wasn't a drop of quality for us in that half, pathetic. For all our pretty passing where did it get us? Fucking nowhere. Why? Because we play so fucking slow it works against us. Then you add that our movement off the ball is abysmal and it's just not going to work. We have no creativity whatsoever out there, Arteta is invisible and Osman looks lost. Also, when you have midfielders who won't turn with the ball but will play the ball back to the defence how do you expect to get anywhere? We could have had 100% of the possession tonight and we still wouldn't do anything. We could have prevented their goal if Hibbert hadn't been asleep. Get him off, not just because of that mistake but we may as well not even bother attempting attacking down the right because he can't go past anyone. Get Cahill off as well and bring Pienaar on, then we can shift Osman into the middle.

Yak's rubbish - so much for him saying in the summer that getting married would make him a better player! Too much of the other I think. I think we miss Alan Irvine taking notes during the match then changing things around. Things haven't gone so well since he went.

I.m off for another glass and some positive thinking during the 2nd half. COYB

Howard: Looked OK, great save before the goal just dissapointed he didnt make more of an effort with the cross - maybe it was just too high for him.

Hibbert: Looks good going foreward linking up well with people but the goalscorer was his man and he alone must take the blame for the goal.

Jagielka: Superb first half performance, him and Neville have been our best players.

Lescott: Hasn't been as bad as I though he would be, needs to get involved more.

Baines: Not seen him get too involved yet and could have easily been booked for that tackle outside the area.

Neville: Looking good. Showing good leading spirit and managing to push up well. Another good game from the skipper.

Osman: Doing well also, needs to get more shots off as we know he can hit a ball. Needs to be more attacking.

Arteta: OK

Cahill: Doing well. Just hoping he'll show some flair from somewhere and head a goal home - If Arteta gets a set-piece right he'll be on the scoresheet tonight.

Saha: Needs to get more shots on target. He ain't gonna score if he dosen't make the keeper work

Yakubu: Doing a good job holding up the play as our big-man. Good first 45.

This is a fucking joke.

We should be able to beat Liege anyway, but Defour, who's arguably been their best player, should have been off after 20 mins - he puts his hand on his head as he brings Saha down from behind with the ball nowhere because he KNOWS he's just got his second yellow, but once again we get stiffed by a ref!

Hibbert is shite, get him off. Neville to RB, Castillo into midfield and Peanuts for Cahill. And a fucking rocket up their collective arses from Moyes!!

Some peeps seem to forget we are playing a very good side, they seem comfortable soaking up the pressure but when they break they are very good. An excellent performance from a team who are well organised and look very comfortable.

We will huff and puff all night and not break them down unless changes are made. :(

They may be a good side Licker but the annoying part is we don't look like scoring. We need to sort ourselves out before we can start to challenge the Liege team. The thing that is annoying me most is bar Jagielka, Neville and occasionally Osman we don't seem interested. It's not a surprise that the three players that are playing thier hearts out tonight are players that are English & Loving the Club. If we didnt have Neville we would be screwed. I'm not watching the second-half, just check on Sky Sports for our updates.

Jagielka!

64 Everton revert to a 4-3-3 formation - they are going for it now.

62 Hibbert is coming off for Anichebe, surprise sub. Neville will slot in at right back.

Yes.

Standard Liege = 2

Everton FC = 1

It's 3-3 on aggregate at the moment but Liege would win on Away Goals. We need another goal to try and take the game into Extra-Time. I feel with Anichebe, even though I dont rate him we are better. With three attackers we will be able to play a more offensive game and this could get us through.

COYB!

67 Goal for Everton! - An absolute shocker from the Leige keeper. Aragon fumbles the ball twice and Jagielka is on hand in the pen area to hit an equaliser. Jagielka's first goal of the season and a vital one at that!

Liege penalty.

What's annoying is it wasn't a penalty. Two defenders were around the player but Jagleika (I think it was) didn't foul him at all. A clean tackle and one which did not in any way deseve a penalty. All Jovanovic has to do now is score from 12 yards to send us back home in a nightmare.

It's gone in, feel sorry for Howard. He went the right way and managed to get a firm hand onto it. Just a pity he hit it with the side of his palm and directed it into his own net. We now sit looking at the exit door of Europe following Jocanovic's penalty goal. I suppose we can kiss goodbye to any success this season. Gutted.

yet another sub standard performance. No class no ideas and no quality!!!!

a championship standard team have totally ouplayed us and deserved to go through!!

tomorrow we will hear the same old crap : no lack of commitment, we have the quality, we will come good next game etc etc

If we arent careful our season will be over, already out of league cup and uefa, wont be long till some league 1 team puts us out of the fa cup and we will be playing for a mid table prem finish ( at best!!!)

Sorry for the negativity but really struggling for any positives this season so far!!!!

I fear our season has just ended. I'm also not sure Moyes will still be in charge by the time the Newcastle game comes around. He said after we got through against Kharkiv that if we'd have lost he would have resigned because he wouldn't have thought he could take us any further, well...

Bollox, this team is a fookin pile of shit. Defence like a sieve - 16 goals in 8 games. not fookin good enough. Take it from me lads, it's gonna be a shit season. I'm gutted, really gutted, but more than that, I feel angry cos those players just aren't playing anywhere near well enough.

Fucking disgraceful.

Arteta needs to have a word with himself, he could barely find his own man 5 yards away.

Jags is the ony person who's come out with any credit for me tonight.
