MikeO
six...dead certain..unless (again) Middlesbro get into FA cup final and win Uefa cup, then down to seventh. Edited April 4, 2006 by mikeo
The Beard
At the risk of sounding completely naive here but I need to ask! If Arsenal win the champions league but finish fifth, that means spurs wont qualify for the champions league next season if they finish fourth right? this is becasue of liverpool throwing a hissy fit last year. But if thats the rule that applies, how come our place wasnt taken away from us although we finished fourth, one place above the winners last year? sorry if im sounding clueless here! GoldfishMemory
The rule has been changes as of this year so you are correct that if Arsenal won the CL but finished outside the top 4 then 4th place would loose out. The reason we did not loose our place last year was the rules at the start of the compotition did not state what they do this year, therfore UEFA sneaked the RS in through the back door to stop them crying. Its typical realy but they are the blue eye of english football to the european governers! I think someone somewhere may have pointed out also that the demise of our once great club can be attributed to the shite getting us kicked out last time we qualified. So to stop them having a major falling out with Everton last yeard decision was extreamly diplomatic, i believe had it been any other brittish team besides us in 4th they would have changed the ruling instantly and pushed out 4th place in favour of the shite!!! Adam
Cos they only brought the rule in at the begining of this season after the RS throwing a 'hissy' fit. If the Arse finish 5 and win the CL then they take spurs place and Spurs take the Uefa cup place (so in other words they say the Arse finish 4 and Spurs finish 5). Going back to how many places get Uefa football I thought that we had 2 places already and an extra one went cos UTD won the Carling cup? "Your guide to European Qualification this season... With the season moving into its second half and many clubs stating that 'making Europe' is their ultimate goal for the season, we thought we'd clear up for you how the European Qualification is determined this season. "As was the case last season, there are four Champions League spots available to the Premier League," FA spokesman Andrin Cooper confirmed to us. "The top two finishers will qualify for the competition automatically, while the third and fourth placed teams will enter initially into the qualification rounds, as Manchester United and Newcastle United did this season. "We have three UEFA Cup slots, with one place going to the fifth placed team in the Premiership and two places allocated to the winners of the Worthington Cup and the FA Cup. One thing to be aware of is that if the winners of The FA Cup have already qualified for Europe, their UEFA Cup slot will the revert to the losing finalists. "In the case of the Worthington Cup, only the winners are eligible for the UEFA Cup spot. Should the winners go on to qualify for the UEFA Cup or Champions League via the Premiership or European competitions this year, then the slot would again go to the Premier League. "The other eventuality would be if both the finalists for the FA Cup Final have already qualified for European competition. In this case, the UEFA Cup slot would also revert to the sixth spot in the league or, if the Worthington Cup winners have also already qualified for Europe, it could go down to seventh in the Premier League." Randomness
so as it stands 6th place is Uefa cup. 4th Spuds 55 5th Arse 53 6th Blackburn 53 7th Bolton 48 8th Wigan 47 9th Wet Spam 45 10th Everton 44 at the moment intertoto cup place is ours because blackburn are in the uefa cup spot. So if Boro win the Uefa cup and meet the RS in the final - another UEFA cup spot opens up... 1st - Cl 2nd - cl 3rd - Q cl 4th - Q cl (unless arsenal finish 5ht and win the CL) 5th - Uefa 6th - Uefa 7th - maybe uefa spot depending on the teams that win the FA cup etc. United will qualify for the FA cup - they won the worthington cup thats why 6th place is a uefa spot. Adam
Just read that 7 clubs have applied for the intertoototoototooto cup. Only 3 have annouced they are interested Blackburn, Everton and can't remember the last.

One of West Ham, Middlesbro or Charlton will get the last uefa place...whoever reaches the Final irrespective of who wins it. Bill
If the winners have already achieved a eufa place with their league position, the losing finalist gets the place..............................methinks,
Tara Mac
No matter what happens I think we will HAVE to rely on other team's results in the last 6 games. T

So you have to assume that we'll need to finish seventh (or eighth if 'boro yadda yadda yadda) to get in. Portugal have not taken up their invitation so there is a spare place but it's gone to Andorra . Long shot but it's possible given Boltons poor current form. But after last night 'boro have a good shot at the UEFA and if it goes to eighth then another twelve points might be enough...have to win tomorrow though!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
L_Blue
Bolton Intertoto Now big Sam has said cos they are doin shite at the mo they might enter the Intertoto and if they do I reckon that will mean our chances of getting in that way are even slimmer.
