Fa Cup Final: Chelsea

Recommended Posts

'Manchester United will have to beat Everton to reach their fourth FA Cup final in six years after the pair were drawn to face each other in the semi-finals.'

Should Arsenal, who yesterday overcame Burnley to set up a rearranged quarter final with Hull, get past Phil Brown’s side, they will face Chelsea in the other tie. Sir Alex Ferguson will be the happiest of the five remaining managers, though, with history very much on his side. Everton, who beat Ferguson’s team to lift the trophy in 1995, have only beaten United once since then. Manchester United's going to be a tough game but we can prove we can beat teams like Liverpool and Aston Villa. Maybe we can bring back some of the 95' spirit?

The match will be played at Wembley.

United the one I didn't want!

The one none of us wanted really. But if we're going to win the thing we were always likely to have to beat them at some stage.

Bring it on :P !

Lovely to look at just four balls in the draw knowing we were one of them....it's been too long!

When is it? lets hope that they play a reserve team against us as they are concentrating on the league and the champs league  The fact that they are running away with the league doesnt help us as they can rest players unfortunetly we cant as we dont have the squad. Lets hope Louis comes back to haunt them!!

Add first I was gutted but thinking about it there isnt alot between the others (Besides Hull) and I would love to get one over Utd and Rooney.

However, I dont have high hopes for the game <_<

Like everyone else, this is the one I would have hoped to avoid. But as previously stated, we'd probably have to meet them somewhere along the line. At first I thought we'd have to play them at Old Trafford, then remembered that it's gonna be at Wembley anyway. I think we'd have a better chance at Wembley than at Old Trafford. I'm gonna go for a Saha hatrick, a Phil Neville free-kick, and Tim Howard to lob VDS from his own penalty box. Oh, and Rooney to score an own goal. :D

I'm going to offer a different opinion .

Against United , we traditionally play well , and it's normally a tight game .

We have a game at Wembley against the best team in the world , and I have a good feeling about it . We deserve a little luck this season , and it might come in the league , or it might come in the cup , but I'm confident it will come .

None of the draws were easy , including Hull , and Arsenal and Chelsea are starting to find form , so why not play United ?

Better the devil you know .

1-0 or 2-1 to the blues :)

Will this mean the Hillsbrough flag is going up?

I would have preffered Chelsea than Manchester United but I do believe that we can do it. We have shown good commitment through the cup this time round and United will be expecting a comfortable victory against us. Alex is going out for domination, he already has the Carling Cup (and Premiership) and will want to get the Champions League and FA Cup. It will take a lot to stop them but maybe the pressures of the Champions League will come into our favour. Let's face it, our injuries are bad at the moment and we are coping with them. If someone like Ronaldo is out for the game they lose a major part of their team. Let's have a bit of luck (along with skill) and win :)

We do play well against Manchester United. Hopefully it will be the same this time too. I'm up for it.

couldn't agree more with what you said ... no easy teams in any semifinal of the FA cup .. it's gonna be a great game..

much rather have it this way than to get Hull and struggle against them..

everton spirit will prevail.

Uinited have won 2 awards already, and is going for 3 more,

they''ll lose one of those 3, surely

And if we can win against united, the final won't offer much of a challenge ;)

Whilst your on this magic trip could you please tell me this weeks lotto numbers . This will be our biggest game of the season and the toughest but surely United will have a blip in their run to glory and hopefully it will be the FA cup.

The draw I did not want at all. I wanted us to get Chelsea tbh. We're going to need every player ontop of their game and A LOT of luck if we want to get past United. That being said, it's just great to be in a semi-final. I'll be at Wembley no matter what singing my heart out.

We will need a lot of luck but lets be positive about it all. If we go into the game negative with our heads down then it's going to be a right mauling. Fulham did it and look what happened to them, 4-0. They went into that game with the thought that it was Manchester United the greatest team in the world and lost. If we keep the defence locked up tight then maybe we can scrap ourselves a 1-0 win. Van Der Sar has been hard to crack this season but then so has Tim Howard. It will be a fantastic game, a lot better than Chelsea/Arsenal/Hull for the neutrals.

Like Mark said - I will be at Wembley no matter what singing my heart out.

May even turn out to be the best draw. Ferguson's priorities are Champions League, Premier, FA Cup in that order.

It way well be that come semi-final time both Arsenal and Chelsea could be out of Europe and have no chance of the league, making the cup their only chance of silverware.

What we need is for United to stay in Europe, maybe even drop a few points in the league so that Liverpool are a bit more of a threat to them, then their priorities are away from beating us :) .

Don't believe it? Neither do I :D . Grasping at straws eh  ?

Oh man, bad draw. O wanted arse or even chelski before manure. We have played good games vs them lately but still we havent won them like 10y to come. Even we play good they get the result like last time a penaltykick win and we couldnt get our penalty, of course. Its better than this game is in Webley than ot but still, its gonna be toughtgame. Im still positive of this, manure has a lot of experience to win titles, our players dont, but the game is at Webley and i have no doubts out lads will do everything to get the result we will want. Btw when is this game?

I dont know about a date because of the Arsenal game being undecided at the moment. I actually hope that Arsenal win that one, then we will be the underdogs with nothing to lose. If Hull get there it won't feel as special somehow.

Sir Alex Ferguson will be the happiest of the five remaining managers, though, with history very much on his side. Everton, who beat Ferguson’s team to lift the trophy in 1995, have only beaten United once since then.

That will make United favourites to ease past David Moyes’s side – who yesterday came from behind to beat Middlesbrough – and remain on course to win five trophies in a single season.

Oh christ, they even have the stats in their favour. We've only beaten Manchester United once since the 95' cup final, anyone remember who scored that wonderful header past Tim Howard :P Let's just hope that we break the rules at Wembley and beat them again. Who cares about what's happened in the past, it's the present we are living in.

Just played Manure on PES and thrashed them 5-0. Felliani, Jakuba and Saha all on the score sheet. I'm feeling quite positive about this one now ;)

You mixed Jagielka and Yakubu? That would be some all round player :)

In 95 we were told all sorts of dire facts and figures when playing United but we won, I see no reason why we can't do so again, remember lads the entire country loves underdogs and United will be heavily involved in many other 'big matches'

Like most I wanted to avoid Man Utd

BUT to put a positive spin on it, if we had got Arsenal (should they beat Hull) or Chelsea then a game at Wembley would be more of a home tie for them, at least Man Utd will have to travel down like us.

This isn't a time for us to be negative and some of us write off our chances with over a month to go the way I see it is, after all those years going out in early rounds to shitty lower division teams, this year we're gonna have to beat 4 of the 5 teams above us to win a trophy. Yeah its gonna be a challenge but why the fuck not eh???? COYB!!!!!

Am I right in thinking the cup final is after the Champs League final this year??

We've played them twice this season, a 1-1 at home and lost to a penalty at their place.Add that to the obvious under dog tag that will hang over us, our massive team spirit, and the pressure they will be under to achieve a clean sweep of trophies......then I think yes we have a decent chance, who knows what an early set piece goal could do to their confidence, and ours!

IF, if we beat them, then in a final against Arsenal or Chelsea, we would have the advantage of knowing we could beat anyone!

Slightly off topic.......if United go on to sweep all before them and win every bloody thing!....is there some money to come our way from the Rooney deal?.........Silver lining and all that.

It will be a great day regardless of the result to have come this far with our injury and selection problems is an achievement in itself and as Jimmy said we will have a massive backing to beat them and i really think we can they struggled against Spurs in the Carling cup of which Spurs where the better team and should have won so if they can push United so can we.

I think if United get one loss prior to our game it will give us a massive lift and a huge drop in confidence for them no team is unbeatable if we get stuck in and knock them about we could get the better of them.

We may need luck but i think its our turn for abit of luck with all the injuries we have had this season. Saha to come back to haunt them i reckon am going to go for a 1-0 win for Everton, Saha to score a header, its a bit optimistic but come on we have to belive lol

Oh and btw doesn't Ferguson play his youngsters in the cup since they have got him this far or was that the carling cup??

Had to start this heating topic cause its written on the stars: Moyes would have hoped to avoid Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, who are on course for an unprecedented quadruple, but he may be comforted by the knowledge that on the five previous occasions Everton have won the FA Cup - in 1906, 1933, 1966, 1984 and 1995 - the West Indies cricket team have toured England. West Indies are due to play two Test matches in May.

Someone moved this in this topic :D im just so excited that macth that didnt notice the game is over a month now on, thought it will be next week :P

evertonfc.com told you on Wednesday how fans had been braving the elements to secure their seat at Wembley - but Friday has been the busiest day yet. The first fan arrived at 2.50am this morning - even though the box office didn't open until 8am.

Supporters in the queue included those who were too young to remember the Blues' last trip in 1995, to others who were happily regaling tales of 1966 and the heroics of Mike Trebilcock and Derek Temple. The common belief though was that they would all be back again to queue for their final ticket; confidence high that Everton can put Sir Alex Ferguson's side to the sword.

Remember 1985 when Man Utd denied us the treble?.

Would be nice to get revenge at Wembley and deny them what could be a treble (or more). They are talking about winning 5 trophies this season, greedy gets.

Each time we get knocked out of a cup , our heads go down and we have a poor run of form .

Just hope Moyes prepares them mentally a lot better this time , win or lose .

United definitely there for the taking on current evidence.

Half time against Porto..BBC website..

Hairdryer time at Old Trafford. Even over their shaky recent period, Manchester United cannot have played that badly. Porto will be disappointed they haven't scored three or four.

...he's not wrong.

The gap between their trip to Portugal is so short that it plays right into our hands. The draw could be the result that we were looking for. If they had lost they might have rested players for the Everton game (knowing that Champions League progression was unlikely) and if they had won they will have rested players for the FA Cup tie (knowing that the Champions League was secured) With them fielding their star players against Porto who are not playing up to scratch as it is they will surely be tired for the game against us at Wembley. It's a lot of travelling for them and not much for us. This game is for the taking and it seems that United arn't as much of a force than we thought they was.

FC Porto - 15th April

Everton - 19th April

^Thats the fixture list for them

They have but days to recover from their Portugese game that they will surely be playing at 50%

The tie gets so much more exiting...let's get to the final and relive 95'

Our path to the finals: Macclesfield, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Boro, Man U.

One thing's for damn sure, if we do win this whole thing, there isn't a soul alive who can claim with a straight face that we didn't earn it! It just occurred to me that if we do win, in fact, it will mean that we singlehandedly eliminated 25% of the Premier League from the tournament this year. Not to mention four of at least the top six (if not top five) teams in the standings. That would have to be a record of some kind, I would think.

I agree JD, if we beat Chelsea to win the Cup in May, I doubt any club who have ever lifted the cup will have had to beat 4 of that years top 5 league clubs. If we do lift it by beating Liverpool, Manchester Utd, Chelsea and Aston Villa, I wonder if it would be the greatest ever FA cup campain (I would like to think so!!!)

COYB

I was thinking that myself before what a run it would be we have done the unthinkable as it is by beating the teams we have. The only concern i have with Chelsea is they will aim for Hibbert down the right as im sure they know he's been poor the last two games he drifted from his man so many times today i nearly lost my voice shouting at the screen.

If we play how we know we can we can beat Chelsea no doubt about it in my mind they are not the team they used to be although they are a world class team still they are far from unbeatable.

Either way we have a final to go to and the way we reached it is a massive achievement in itself and im proud as fuck tbh its about time this club had something to shout about for its hard graft over the years.

We'll need to play better than we did yesterday when I thought we looked a little frightened in the first half and negative overall, against - let's face it - a second string (if that) Utd team. The problem is up front, Saha and Fellaini are just too slow and one dimensional to play together, they played right into Ferdinand and Vidic's hands and I assume Terry and Carvalho won't have too many problems against them. For me, Saha is a spent force and shouldn't start a match for us full stop, hopefully Vaughan can get himself fit (could Anichebe possibly be back?) as we need him imo to cause Chelsea any problems at the back. Even though Utd had a disgracefully understrength team out yesterday we still caused them virtually nil problems because we just don't have any mobility up front, Vaughan needs to stay fit otherwise I'd shove Cahill up there and leave Saha on the bench.

Our crossing was abysmal yesterday as well, apart from one Baines pull back we didn't put a single decent cross or set piece into the box, how we miss the magic of Arteta.

But anyway, fantastic result and from now on we need to keep players fresh for the final. We can beat Chelsea but we need to play better and Saha needs to be benched.

Without a doubt we are the one's that should lift the trophy and it's funny how everyone is now supporting Everton for what we have done. We have beaten Liverpool & Manchester United from the top 4 in fine style and can certainly over-come Chelsea who are not the force that they once were.

Chelsea's path to the finals: Southend United, Ipswich Town, Watford, Coventry City, Arsenal

The Southend game ended at 1-1 the first time around meaning that Chelsea had to play a second leg away from home. If Southend can give them a game then we have nothing to fear. :)
