Are We The New Arsenal?

Recommended Posts

Bare with me:

1. Moyes seems to be building a young squad.

2. He is bringing in obscure players from abroad on the QT

3. He is brining throw a number of academy players to the first team

4. He works on a tight budget

5. He has gradually built up a quality squad and is now consistently knowcing on the door.

He isn't trying to turn the club round in one season and he has made massive strides in a few years on a limited budget I honestly believe if we keep hold of moyes and keep the current transfer/academy policy we could crack the top 4 even the top 2.

And not selling first team or even important squad players is core to this working.

I don't think we're anywhere near le arse's standards, We haven't really challenged them - We only pipped villa to 5th because they lost Laursen who I think was their best player. I can't see us getting very far this season coming, man city and Tottenham and possibly villa will finish close to 5th this time round, I hope I'm wrong.

As long as we're not like Arsenal in terms of being well liked but not winning anything then that's fine.

Agree totally. I also think that if anyone is going to knock Arsenal from their 'fourth place perch' it will be us. We have had stability up the top of the table for a while now and have shown that we can get into the Champions League. It's going to be a good opener at Goodison, may the best 'Arsenal' win :P

And we have one frog - Louis Saha

Wenger had his policy out of principle, we're just fucking poor.

Hmmm yeah... Can't think of any influential players that we missed over the course of the season.

Can anybody else?

well, to be honest dark, we never got into the champions league did we.

there is still a massive gulf of quality between the top four and us.

I know we have/had our problems too, but I still think Laursen cost them 5th place.

I don't think tis that big a gulf.

I think we are missing 1 player with that bit of class, a game changer, a match winner, can produce something out of nothing, we finished 9 points behind, but we should have beaten them an Chelsea at home, as well as not throw away a 2-0 win over the barcodes.

Losing Arteta and the Yak lost us 4th by that rate? How many goals more would a healthy Yak have got us?

And the Villa games spring to mind as well. I can see City challenging for 5th but Villa will fall back and Tottenham might slip in at 7-8 imho..

I would say possibly 2 players away, but then we are also a million miles away from signing anybody of that calibre

I would say any team looking to do anything in this league needs AT LEAST 2 world class players.... We have ZERO...

If you look at the top teams they then have at least 5 or 6 v v good players....

We have 1 maybe 2 but Ill go for 1.... Jags.. and to define that.... pick our first 11... how many would get in the United side..... there you go maybe 1

So I think were a million miles away... best of the rest maybe... but not good enough....

I think anyone thinking anything different is living in a dream world..... sorry but its the truth....and it hurts me to have to say it.....

Next up....... when will the likes of Liverpool & Arsenal start pushing for "5th place gets you in chamipions league"

I think that's a bit unfair.

I think its just our midfield that isn't up to par.

you got to be kidding?

do we have a striker of the same quality as drogba, anelka, rooney, berbatov, torres, adebayor (till he goes) or van persie?

we dont have a midfield that can touch any of theirs, we have a good defence, but only three players up to the task.

Got to add in the Everton factor though! There's no doubt, were not as good on paper man to man and never will be, just too skint!

But a team can be far greater than the sum of its parts [or far worse as Newcastle and Tottenham prove consistently each season]. So i say keep the faith, last season we had barely any players and key players injured, few good signings this year particularly the right hand side and maybe just maybe!

Besides we are all Everton fans half the fun is hoping and praying for the unlikely.

you say that but we're not top 4 and if we're not making significant additions we're not going to be top 4...regardless of team spirit, if the players aren't there you can't expect osman to be an arshavin or neville to be an essien...they have their limits and we're not even close to being top 4 without a lot of luck. arsenal you would probably say are the weakest side are we nearly as good as they are? no chance. it's not pessimism it's called being realistic, the club needs investment to move forward.

They have, whichi s what i said we need, an thats match winners, 1 or 2 really class players that can turn a draw in to a win, or turn a defacite around, at the moment we don;t have that. Also if you compare benchs in most weeks, there far far better.

Yakubu is a natural goalscorer that would score even more goals than he has here if he had the midfield service from say your Gerrards, Alonsos, Lampard, Fabregas' etc. certainly more than most of those strikers barring Adebayor/Drogba who are similar sort of strikers.

As I said, our midfield is nowhere near top 4, only Arteta has the proper class to make it at that level tbh. Pienaar would be a useful squad player. That's about it really.

3 of our back 4 are top top top class. Hibbert lets us down but this time next year I hope to be saying all 4 of them are class if Naughton signs :P

And I like Tim as a goalkeeper. Rarely makes mistakes and rarely has a bad turn of form.

Completely agree we are nowhere near good enough to be top 4 and we are not likely to be in the forseeable future ( unless of cause the top 4 all sell their best players and replace them with donkeys!)

Our defensive is better then Arsenals, Lescott jags and Bains would get in the Arsenal team, an howards better then there keeper.

About the striker situation...Yak is the highest scoring African in the Prem. So I think, when all are fully fit, our strike force this next year is just as potent as Arsenal and even Chelsea and certainly better than Citeh.

In the middle third, we hold our weight. And as I'm sure everyone would agree, we need more depth in terms of pace and creativity. I think we saw glimpses of creative potential in Peanut late in the term...who knows if it'll come around any more once Mikel is back. As for pace...well let's quit screwing around and give Usain Bolt a ball and sign him up (doubt anyone in the prem could keep up down the wing!!!). I don't even think Arry Kidnapper could get in the way of that deal. We need two more midfielders to break top 4...creative CM and a lighting (BOLT) fast RM.

In defence, we're as strong as anyone. I would put our defense up against Manure's any day. If we manage to seal the now unlikely Naughton deal, we'll even be set for a few more years. Again 2 defenders for depth (and a good Europe run's) sake and we'll be set.

So yeah, we're like the new and improved Arsenal without the god awful yellow shirts. :D

Blue tinted glasses?

Im a big fan of yak, probably my fav player, but to think he is as good as the top four or city is crazy!

Robinho, tevez, adebayor, van persie, arshavin, drogba, anelka, torres, rooney and berba would all push ahead of him.

And im pretty sure drogba and adebayor are african and impretty sure they score more goals (unless were gunna add up all prem goals and ignor the fact yak has been in the prem longer)

and still, no, we arnet the new improved arsenal

We are 5th best, wich is near 4th best, so your wrong there.

we have a better defense the Arsenal, keepers are the same level, when Adebayor leaves we our offensive players are about the same level.

only their midfield is better with fabregas an Arshavin, and they have a wider squad.

churinga i admire you're enthusiasm but we won't be '5th best much longer' i don't even think we are now but we're just in possession of the title. i don't think we'll be playing european football the season after next.

following your edit arsenal are far far better than us upfront, they're even better without adebayor because he's so overrated it's untrue. having lived in london and been forced to watch arsenal with some of their fans i've adopted their views that he's a waste of space.

Loose the self pity. Everton were 5th in the best league in the world last season (without any fit strikers half of the time!) and all we should do is moan about Man city and Tottenham, and Doom awaits us??

Please enlighten me to why we can't look up only 1 spot in the league? Man city have proven nothing yet and Tottenham have been a big money club since forever.

The only time i felt there was a big difference between us and a top4 team was at old trafford.

we won against liverpool, drawed 2 times against chelsea (and we should have won one of those) and the draw against arsenal at goodison we should have won to.

that's like looking up at a mountain and saying well we're already on land. it's not like we were close to 4th and our teams nowhere near as good at the top 4 or even city on paper now. by all means look up but you're looking at one monster of a climb.

So these new super clubs (Man City, Spurs and Villa) that are going to romp past Everton this coming season. Are they not prone to injuries, new players not settling in and playing as a team!Perhaps they are better than liverpool who were held at home by some not very super clubs (Stoke + a few others)Also the MORE "BIG" clubs that are about the more points the "BIG" clubs are going to drop.

Moyes keeps winning awards, keeps getting us to 5th and even 4th once, with a squad that have been more than stretched! He's learning all the time, maybe he can pick a team from that srtetched squad this season capabale of beating these new money boys!

Birmingham might come to Goodison and get thrashed, then go to mighty Man City and hold them to a draw......anything could happen.

We managed to keep Moyes, if we can hang on to Lescott and our injured players Arteta, The Yak, Jagielka , Vaughan and Anichebe get back quickly, then we have a damed good chance of that 5th spot again.

Tell you what! With our best team out, the present top 4 don't and wont fancy playing us.........the likes of Villa, Spurs and Man city would probably be very happy with a point.

Might lose Lescott, Jags propably wont be fit for a few more weeks, likewise Arteta...

..But I'll be fuc%ed if I'm going to concede to teams who couldn't finish higher than us last year, even with all our problems......Sure it'll be very hard to get above 5th, but EVERTON should be sending the signal to the pretenders....."It'll be very hard for YOU to get above 6th place"
