Won 3-0 away tonight at Doncaster Belles, think that means they need just a point against Arsenal on Sunday, at Halton Stadium, to clinch the League for the first time, well done Everton Ladies.

arsenal ladies looked poor agaisnt sunderland in cup final.

Amusing hearing the manager slating his own team during the match as well!

saying that was probably just an off day against a dogged second division side.

COME ON GIRLS!

Yeah it puts the girls 3 points ahead of Arsenal and its the last game for both, if we lose it we lose the league on goal difference, as Beard said we just need a draw to win the league.

The ladies side have been a powerhouse in their league for a few seasons. It is about time they put a championship in the trophy room. They deserve it.

With such a good run they will have wanted to win the league, it's a shame that it wasn't to be and especially on goal differance. The Arsenal team are a known force and would always have been the one's to do it. Better luck next year, they have shown that the Arsenal can be challanged.

Isn't Rachel Brown (Everton) England's goalkeeper?

They have been accepted as one of eight teams to play in the 2011 FA Women's Super League.

The other seven are:

  • Arsenal LFC
  • Birmingham City LFC
  • Bristol Academy WFC
  • Chelsea LFC
  • Doncaster Rovers Belles LFC
  • Lincoln LFC
  • Liverpool LFC
I think it's to be a professional league now and there are rules that force three players per club to earn over £20k a year. It's been moved to the summer to attract more attention and requires sponsors to go ahead. I'm not sure if it will ever go ahead personally.

It was based on who can bring in the most money through sponsorship and available facilities.

Liverpool ladies train at Melwood so that was a positive for them despite having been relegated to a lower division.

It looks like Man City are spending big in the women's league as well. They have signed England internationals Jill Scott and Toni Duggan from Everton. This is to be Man City's first season as far as I know.

They're massive loses for the lady's team. Already had the heart ripped out of it last year, with the sh*te taking the majority of our players. Now, the only two players worth keeping have gone too.

Bloody hell.

Relegation pretty much a certainty, though it's not yet mathematically over.

There's a feature on it on BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04kzzgg/the-womens-football-show-2014-episode-7

9mins 30 seconds in

Rachel Brown says it's partly down to Everton remaining semi-pro while other clubs are turning professional. The manager agrees and says that some players work 9-5 and turn up for training.

so this stems from the team not being able to pay them living wages? surely with all the money they make from the men's TV deal they could throw a few thousand quid to the ladies to beef up their salaries and make them pro.

Liverpool nicked the title today (with two of their three goals coming from long standing Everton players, Dowie & Williams) while Chelsea and Birmingham failed to get the win that would have kept them ahead.

Not nice to be asset stripped, relegated and then see the dark side steal the silverware, whatever the gender of the players :(.

As has been said, a small investment for us to go full time would be petty cash to the club, hopefully we hit back next year.

agreed, strange that promotion and relegation doesn't exist for women's leagues. i wonder why.

It does exist, this is just a one-off due to Notts County folding and a place opening up. The "spring series" was a holding thing while the women's league changed dates; my money is on us getting relegated btw, we'll be lucky to get a point given the money some clubs have invested.

Are we still part-time? Crazy how we went from being one of the best sides to letting other clubs take all our best players because we weren't putting as much the ladies side.

I agree, was very short-sighted, hope they put it right.

Seems we're back full time, signed a few players in the last few days apparently. Good to see.

I would like to be kept up to date on the womens team.

We already have a thread for them actually, I'll pin it to the top of the forum for a while and see how much it gets used.

Indeed, I think staying in the division would be a good result this season.

Without a doubt; sadly (but unsurprisingly) we couldn't hold on tonight, encouraging start though.

Got battered really, 5 shots at goal compared to their 25 shots, they were way ahead of us on all the stats except one, we committed more fouls than them.:(

Crazy you can't do both. Surprised the club haven't offered to at least match her wages for a year at least.

You can't be a "full time professional" if you're still working as a teacher though. Quite possible that the club have offered her a good wage but she just enjoys teaching more than football, who knows?

It was much closer at half time (the last I looked). AS LB said above, avoiding relegation would be a massive achievement this season given how far we've fallen behind the teams that've poured money in over the last few years, Liverpool being one. No shame in that loss tonight, conceding fewer than their male equivalents and at least they had five shots; I don't think the lads have had that many in a game thus far.
