Following on from my discussion with Bailey about us on paper being the best of the rest on paper. What team would have the most players in it. I'd have us with 4.

Pickford

Pereira Duffy Zouma Digne

Zaha Neves Dacoure Richarlison

Gross

Jimenez

Goal Keeper. Pickford is out of form but would you swap him for any of the others?

RB the hardest to pick with Wan-Bissaka and Holabas. Went for Pereira as he's the most balanced.

RCB. No one really stands out but Duffy has now experience than Tarkowski and Lacellas the only other decent ones I could think of.

LCB. Sakho, Maguire and Ake close. Depends on the style of football who you'd want.

LB. Probably the easiest pick.

LW. Fraser is more creative in his vision but Richarlison is a potential match winner.

Centre mids. Along with Digne they pick themselves.

RW. Zaha, not been great this year but he was head and shoulders above everyone last year. Probably the player that needs a move to help himself progress.

AM. Another tight pick. Anderson and Jota being very close.

ST. Arnautovic the only other I could think of. Jimenez edges it on experience.

Interesting to think about...

The players I would look at are:

Bournemouth: Ake, Fraser, Brooks, Wilson, King

Palace: Wan-Bissaka, Zaha

Leicester: Schmeichel, Evans, Maddison, Vardy

Newcastle: Dubravka, Lascelles, Rondon

Watford (not that I have seen much of them): Geri, Doucoure

West Ham: Rice, Anderson, Arnautovich

Wolves: Neves, Jota, Jimenez

I would probably go with:

Pickford

Wan Bissaka / Lascelles / Zouma / Digne

Doucoure / Rice / Neves (that might be too negative)

Zaha / Arnautovich / Anderson (Bernard and Richarlison would be very close)

I think if we picked up Lascelles and Rice we would immediately have a much stronger, smarter, and organised spine to our team.

One of the only ones who we could pry that said I wouldn't mind giving Holgate another chance first.

Agree on the spine, I'd axe Sigurdssen too though. I'd prioritise those three positions before the obvious ones that we need in a striker and a right back. It's easier to build round a good spine than it is to work barkwards. It's weird watching a 'soft' Everton team, need a little grit and fire.

hopefully its 400k a week if he's fit, so they'll pay that only about 4 weeks of the year.

If John Charles was going to Juventus today, his wages would be £1m per week.

Gordon Banks has died. RIP.   I played golf with him at the Belfry some years ago.  A lovely man and the best goalkeeper England ever had.

Praise doesn't come much higher.

What would he be worth today John? Priceless. I only ever saw him play live once and I was eight at the time (England 5-0 France) so no real memories to call upon but the highest praise I can give is that he was probably very nearly as good as Southall:).

Never had a clue he worked for us that would make a great sports quiz question, met him a couple of times at San Lorenzo golf course and Don Philipe hotel in Portugal he use to go there with a few of the 66 team and a few celebrities including Tarbuck and Stan Boardman, had some great laughs in the hotel bar Boardman was one of the funniest people I’ve met.

Controversial one....  the female pc balancing piece in commentary/punditry hasn't gone well IMO.

I'm all for diversity - 100%... but bbc and sky aren't being diverse.  They are putting females into roles who aren't up to it or are doing it to the point of overkill and it's playing into the hands of chauvanists.

The commentator for the millwall game on motd was simply awful.... called the post the bar, her high pitched dreary tone was bad on the ears.

Alex Scott is pretty decent but they are throwing her on every game and she is trying too hard....  she is dominating the analysis.  You can see the discomfort of other pros who clearly disagree with some stuff she says but are towing the line.

It's just not being handled the right way.  It's not a case of "she's better than the likes of xyz commentator or pundit...."  the fact remains you have pundits like McCoist who I thought was superb in the world cup, Gordon Strachan, Hansen who I thought was good....

Some are alright but some are shocking. However so are some of the male pundits. There is one that goes on the debate, I think she either is or was the Chelsea womens team manager and my local u15s coach had a better understanding of the game than her.

Alex Scott is definitely the best. She is articulate, she makes good tactical points, she clearly knows the game but there are a lot of others who dont. The bigger shame is that there must be some decent female football analysts out there who havent played the game at a decent level who dont get a look in. At least in the mens game, the commentators are largely high level players who have been in the big games but the womens game isnt even on par with academy games and yet these women are being thrust into the spotlight as if they have some sort of experience at elite level rather than knowledge or information than can bring to the debate.

Really excited by this Wales/England game about to start, could be a classic (though I hope it's a walk in the park for the guys in white, unlikely I know).

Exeter back to the top of the league earlier was a nice hors d'oeuvre though:).

Wales prepared for an England kicking game and England obliged.  England never created anything as they kicked possession away all day.  Deserved to lose.

Still think we'll win the thing though, we'll beat Scotland and Italy and Wales will lose to Ireland. They've won the battle but will lose the war.....I hope.

They’ve been trying to get rid of him since they got him the fans hate him for some reason.  Honestly I don’t get the Puel hate, soton and Leicester are lucky to be where they are and could be in a lower league to be honest.  They aren’t premier league stalwarts.  Puel plays defensive football which suits Leicester since that’s how they played when they won the league.  They won the league  and all of a sudden  think they are some big club and all that, their place in the standings is good for a team that sold mahrez and replaced him with a far worse player and will continue to do so with their stars.

Puel took little tin pot soton to a cup final and they fired him.  Honestly clubs are going crazy.

I think him dropping Vardy quite a few times hasn’t helped his cause Vardy has been vocal that his style of football doesn’t suit his game, probably why he has been getting dropped but Vardy has the ears of the owners and as more than likely been sticking the knife in with his whining.

the grealish slap was just a strange occurrence.  14 weeks in jail for the guy, and villa won.  fans can be so stupid sometimes.

Was the guy carrying an egg when he did it? I he was we should just move on, no harm done.

Ah the replays I saw looked like he didn’t know how to punch someone and wrangler around his neck, must have been a bad replay.  The way the guy marches off the field and motions to the fans like he is their savior is what bothered me.  Players take more of a beating on a corner kick than that.

It seemed quite an aggressive punch to me. Just imagine the consequences to football if the guy had had a knife.

they don't have metal detectors at the stadiums over there?  after the manchester incident you would think they would all have them.  the US does.  you can't even bring in a purse to sporting events or concerts anymore.

England have been stunning so far against Scotland. It makes their performance against Wales even more of a head scratcher.

First half in Wales was decent, second half cost us. Best team came second on this occasion but in the WC normal service will be resumed, we're the only team that can get the cup north of the equator (again):).

Biggest comeback in the history of the competition, wouldn't be surprised if it was the biggest ever in internationals, incredible. Hated losing to Wales but I can live with this, historic.

Talk about a game of two halfs 38-38

Women doing a bit better, 73-0 up with five minutes left. Bizarre thing on the iplayer is that the commentator is talking in Gaelic while the summarisers are talking English:huh:.

there is a course in the US where 23 horses have died this year.  it's still open.  i'm not sure who is the ruling body but they are a sham if there is one.
