Neville is awful. Does he think he's kidding anyone with those 3 yard first time passes that puts his team mates under pressure, only when gets closed hoofs it aimlessly. This is not good enough. Their defence is under par and we can't get a shot away.

Playing for a point maybe?

Neville is a liability at the moment. He is losing possession too easily, not holding his position in line with the rest of the midfield (admittedly not only his fault) and generally losing any momentum we have going forward. Waste.

Baines isnt doing well against Walcott... luckily Heitinga is having a strong game and Walcott unsurprisingly isnt finding a team mate.

Saha isnt doing enough either. Without the ball he isnt closing down enough and isnt looking to run into space. Having said that the service to him is dire. We lose the ball so easily its unreal.

And then he takes that audacious volley when Cahill could be through on goal! Poor decision making...

Think hes not doing much because he is getting NO service at all. Wrong tactics at the moment Edited by Matt

We're lucky to even be in this game - thank you Hibbert and Heitinga. Bilyaletdinov has had some decent touches, he's good on the ball, he just can't cross..... More and more I think he'd be suited to playing behind the striker, or maybe even on the right so he can cut in. He's played there before and its paid off. Maggie on the bench, drag off Cahill or Seamus? Not gonna happen but ah well.

COYB.

Trevor Francis reckons we're playing 4-2-4huh.png .

well, he is an idiot of a pundit....

Then we wouldn't have had them offside the five/six time we have.

I don't claim to understand the art of defending but aren't we normally criticising them for defending too deep?

Its amazing how high up we are playing and yet there is noone in midfield to take the ball forward! 424, more like 811

We're a joke, aren't we? Cahill, Neville, Coleman and Bilyaletdinov wouldn't have a spot in the first XI in any other PL team. Hibbert's crosses are woeful as well (PS: If we want to progress as a team, Hibbert isn't the right man for the right back spot. We have got much bigger problems than a right back that can't cross though)

Heitinga is doing really well though.

Thank God for half time. We look to be handing the points over to them here. Could easily be 3 down by now and havent really threatened ourselves, even if we have been in good positions.

Baines is getting the run around a little bit, although Bily isnt doing him any favours but that aside the back 4 have done alright. They are just getting over run because the midfield dont seem to be playing in the same game.

Dont really know where to start with the midfield though tbh. Neville is doing nothing and should be replaced probably with Barkley, depending on whether we want to win the game anyway. Felli should drop back (best player in there so far). Cahill is playing in midfield and doing a job. He isnt really on the same wave length with the others but is getting forward. Not contributing with either attack or defence, but bar going for 2 strikers, I dont know what other option we have. Coleman is ok, and Bily is again wasteful, but does seem to find some space.

Saha needs to pull his finger out. Its going to be tough for him, but that doesnt excuse the fact he is looking too lethargic and we need him to do better.

Think Hibbert has been our best player, Felli is making too many mistakes for me and doesnt look his usual steady self

I wouldnt really disagree, certainly one of the better players. Felli is making more mistakes than normal, mainly because he is more uncomfortable playing further up the pitch. Not a good enough excuse but it doesnt help!

i think that hibbert has been solid too. even if he gets beat for pace, he seems alert enough to been in the right place at the right time. can't believe that the midfield are playing so deep with no pressure and keep letting stroll right through. even felli is a bit guilty of that, though neville is the worst culprit - got me thinking that they must have been told to do that by Moyes... saha has shown decent touches, but he has terrible service, and no support so he gets the ball deep and has 3 on him if he gets the ball. 0-0 would be a massive result if it stays like this

Question 25b: If during a match, a player's boot comes off, and the player continues to play the ball (not just kicking it or just having a shot at goal) and therefore puts himself at risk of injury, what action should the Referee take?

Answer 25b: The Referee has a duty of care towards the players, and must stop play if there is any danger to the player. This scenario is/was covered in separate parts of the 2007/2008 Laws of Associated Football.

References: Additional Instructions and Guidelines for Referees in the 2007/2008 Law book (page 66):

"If a player loses his footwear accidentally, and immediately plays the ball and/or scores a goal, there is no infringement and the goal is awarded because he lost his footwear by accident."

It follows therefore, if the player continues to play on after immediately playing the ball, and the Referee believes that the misplaced boot poses a potential danger, he should stop play immediately .

Law 5, Powers and Duties of the Referee: "The Referee ensures that the players' equipment meets the requirements of Law 4".

Law 4, Players' Equipment: "A player must not use equipment or wear anything that is dangerous to himself or another player. The basic equipment of a player comprises of ..............footwear etc. The player leaves the field of play to correct his equipment. The player is only allowed to re-enter the field of play when the ball is out of play".

Law 8 The Start and Restart of Play: Once play has been stopped, it should be restarted in accordance with Law 8.

"A dropped ball is a way of restarting the match after a temporary stoppage that becomes necessary, while the ball is in play, for any reason not mentioned elsewhere in the Laws of the Game. The Referee drops the ball at the place where it was located when play was stopped".

The player has not committed any offence, hence the dropped ball restart.

Further points to note: The player should not be allowed to continue indefinitely in a state of undress, as this is potentially dangerous to the player concerned. The Referee will have to make a judgment based on common sense, which will allow the game to flow if at all possible, but stop it immediately if there is any chance of potential danger to the player or to other players. The safety of players is paramount when making such decisions. In general, when a player needs to adjust his equipment, play need not be stopped. Referees will normally ask the player to adjust the defect whilst the game is continuing; there is no need for the player to leave the field of play to achieve this. If the player has not yet adjusted his equipment, by the time that the ball next ceases to be in play, then he should be asked to leave the field of play to correct his equipment. The player is only allowed to re-enter, after the Referee is satisfied that the defect has been corrected. Re-entry is only allowed when the ball is out of play.

(a) If the Referee needs to stop the game to issue a caution (for example, if the player refuses to adjust his equipment), then the match will be restarted with an indirect free kick from the place where the ball was located when play was stopped (see Law 4). By refusing to adjust his equipment, the player has committed the Law 12 caution offence of unsporting conduct in this example. Hence the indirect free kick restart.

(cool.png If play is stopped to issue a caution because the player disagrees with the Referee about the need to correct his equipment, then the match will be restarted with an indirect free kick from the place where the ball was located when play was stopped (see Law 4). By disagreeing with the Referee, the player has committed the Law 12 caution offence of dissent in this example. Hence the indirect free kick restart.

© If play is stopped because the Referee deems that the player who only has one boot on, has played in a dangerous manner by making an unprotected challenge to win the ball with an opponent, then play should be stopped; and restarted with an indirect free kick for dangerous play (in accordance with Law 12). In this example, it is the player with the missing boot that causes the dangerous play situation.

Fucking hell Cahill stay onside! Whether its silly fouls, sloppy passes or poor decision making, we just keep giving the ball away. Never going to get anything without having more control.

Trevor Francis is a twat but he is probably right that Coleman should come off, he isnt doing badly but I dont fancy him not getting booked again.

Corners have been dreadful as well.
