He poked and prodded about for 1 run and could have been out earlier when he miscued a slog against Lyon. He batted like a poor no. 11. Hoping Broad comes out swinging tomorrow, if he gets on a roll 400+ is very achievable. The "experts" were saying this morning that 250 would be a decent total on the wicket and we've blown that out of the water. We'll roll the convicts out for a couple of hundred and then grind them down with another 400+ and they'll be crying into their saggy green caps while we destroy them again. Anderson is a pace bowler mate, he is not a traditional slower paced swing bowler. He's a seamer a proper swing bowler is a slower paced bowler who moves the ball around. Simon Jones was a swing bowler and he wasn't slower paced at all. I always though a proper swing bowler was a much slower paced bowler like Irani, sort of inbetween pace and spin. Maybe I'm wrong mate, never mind. Either way Mo Ali was flying there , gone for 77 which makes me think if a tail ender is scoring like that it's a good batting pitch. Experts seem to think it isn't though so if that's the case that is an unbelievable knock edpecially in the pressure of the first Ashes test of the series. Brilliant stuff. Bit different at test level though, would you be happy if he started 4 for us? If he was a true number 8 he wouldn't open or bat at 3 for our one day side. And he's our 5th bowler behind Anderson, Broad, Wood and Stokes. Usually at the start of the innings the ball moves around a bit and bowlers are obviously more full of beans so steam in and put everything into their deliveries, so you want your best batsmen facing the start of the innings. It's why the train of thought is that it's a good idea to have your very best batsman at number 3 - that way if an opener goes down early you have your best batsman coming in next and they can cope with the new ball and spend a lot of time at the crease.
