I love Gylfi but I just don’t think he’s hitting his levels in general play. He’s scored goals but if he doesn’t score just feel like we are lacking a bit.

Not think the fact he covers more ground than most also contributes to the team as a whole? He’s easily been one of our best players in the last two years, there are others in more worried about than him.

It’s just a tough one to explain. His work ethic is great but his lack of pace doesn’t help him on closing down. We have to play him because he’s our go to, it just limits our style of play I guess if that makes sense. Like I said, I love Gylfi - absolute model pro I just feel that in the games he doesn’t score he isn’t overly effective. He needs to own the ball, get on it and show his quality more in my opinion

Not sure why gylfi gets the stick he does.  Hasn't been amazing but certainly not disappointing.  Had the odd bad day where he can't get into the match but remains a huge goal threat. Quality player

And we would be a few points down, he has scored some important goals for us this season.

To summarise Btay's post because he doesn't fit the system and is anonymous if he doesn't score.

Add to that his job is to assist and he doesn't create enough. Partly because he only averages 27 passes a game so he's not involved enough.

Only goal I can think of that made the difference was against Leicester, great turn and banged the ball into the net. He doesn't take charge enough.

Yeah, I think he’s class on the ball, we just need to get him on it more. Looking through Bernard’s stats for all years he’s played he’s never been a prolific scorer or even with assists.

Pienaar never was really, but he was essential at building up the attack, hence the comparison

Yep I definitely agree. I get quite annoyed with the fantasy football stats because they never rate the man of the match on anything but goals and assists. Bernard provides so many chances for his team mates around him to get an assist. I really hope he plays well against united as he makes us a different level.

In conclusion- it’s not that I don’t rate siggy, I actually think he’s a quality footballer. I just think he’s got the ability to give so much more and I want to see that.

Same here but I think it’s more down to tactics when he doesn’t get it.

Could be, I think he’s just not an out and out 10, centre mid or striker but has qualities all those positions require. ( if that makes sense )

I think he could do a job further back, maybe replace Gomes during his suspension?

He had energy but the two crosses he put in the box in quick succession at the end of the game defined him as a player. Beats a man, has nothing to show for it.

He was meant to be better after a pre season break people promised me 😤

The first one I think he got caught in two minds as to whether he should shoot or cross it and I actually found myself laughing at what he actually produced

3 in the middle waiting for a ball into the 6 yard box!... Then along comes Bernard.

I think bernard gets the best out of digne aswell. He’s been off his usual form these last few weeks and I don’t think it’s coincidence

To be fair I thought Digne was average again yesterday. He played one quality ball to Walcott but that's all I can remember.

Grade 2 medial ligaments - 4-12weeks supposedly. Bad news but if this opens the door for Gordon to at least make the bench/get some game time then at least a slight positive may come from Bernard’s absence.

That’s after the new year I fear.

I don’t think the arm band sits well with him, since he’s taken the role of captain for a couple of games his own game has suffered.

He was excellent yesterday. He needs to see more of the ball further up the field - would a free role suit him? I still wish he’d drive on more at the defence, he’s far too willing to check his runs or get stood up. It wouldn’t matter if he lost the ball as he does that often anyway, better to do it further up the field with the defence shitting themselves.  Also, he still seems very short on puff. What a player though!

I didn't see any of it yesterday but I thought he was excellent for an hour v Burnley, then have been disappointed not to see more of him since. He seems to have found his mojo playing in Ancellotti's system which gives him the freedom to drift inside, but is fitness a concern (and I don't just mean injuries)? I hope we can get him up to speed because it also frees Richarlison to play up top with DCL, which looks easily our best attacking option.

He was good yesterday, but he made the wrong choice of pass or ball on a few occasions, plus he doesn’t shoot enough, there were a number of times yesterday when I was screaming at him to shoot, but he didn’t, he seems a bit short on shooting confidence. Add his lack of ability to play 90 mins and there’s still work to do, but when he’s on it, he’s a delight to watch.

Should definitely score more, won't even mind him if he took shots on and missed but he doesn't, it's like getting a shot off is his last resort and he will always look for a passing option even if it's more difficult.

That’s true, but the amount of times he’ll run at a defender, then rather than try and beat them, just stand up and wait for the play to catch up... it’s infuriating...  because often he’ll then make a poor pass or let the momentum ebb away. It’s like he suddenly loses all his confidence. I’d love to see him just try and beat the man, many times he’ll fail of course but he’ll skin them often too and the play will open up in a dangerous area. Defenders hate it when tricky bastards run at them.

i hope he is alright, he's one of the players that makes us tick and we need him.

Was he subbed because he was injured? I thought it was because he was crap.

I was only listening to it on the radio but there was no mention of an injury. That said has he ever completed 90 mins for us? His conditioning seems very poor, even when he plays well we only get 45 mins out of him.

i thought he was fine, no worse than others, but yes he does seem to get winded very fast.

I was very disappointed with his performance today I really thought with out Richarlison in the team he would have stepped it up and stood out as our best player, but he did the opposite and went completely missing.
