US Politics/Biden Presidency (Trump-free zone)

Somehow I'm still shocked by how many bonehead comments this administration is making, but I shouldn't be.

Literally, everyday there is another PR nightmare for them, and yet, they are still in office. You can't even keep up!

it does give credence to the argument that politicians are in fact the best at politics. they know the games, know how to talk, know how to get things done in bureaucracy and do it while being at least moderately classy (not saying they are perfect, but better than this). this "businessman running the government" approach has shown to be rough shod and like you said a PR nightmare.

business and government are 2 completely different things and should stay that way.

Watching Trump and his staff is akin to watching the American version of yes minister.

It would be hilarious if it wasn't reality.

Putin is probably more scared of Trump than he has been of any other world leader, because he is very much a lose Canon and so unpredictable.

All eyes are on our district here in Georgia because of today's election to replace Tom Price in the House of Representatives (he was appointed head of health and human services in the new administration). In this election, the parties don't each nominate a candidate; instead, anyone can stand under whatever party banner they wish. There are five Democrats, eleven Republicans, and a couple of Independents - 18 in all. If the winner does not get 50%, there will be a run-off between the top two. They've just started counting, and it looks like one of the Democrats, John Ossoff, might actually get over 50% and win the seat. If this happens, it will be a major headline and huge early rebuttal of President Trump. This is a heavily Republican district that voted or him in the presidential election.

My second son voted. My younger daughter (in college in Tennessee) wanted to vote, but she can't because they didn't send out the mail-in ballots in time.

It might send a signal when Ossoff wins, but this will be of as little significance as Sarah Olney unseating Zac Goldsmith in the Richmond Park by-election in 2016. You might get excited for a day or two, until you realise the republicans/conservatives are still firmly in power.

Ossoff won by a mile, with 48.1%. The closest Republican managed 18%. Because no-one reached 50%, though, there will be a run-off. Donald Trump tweeted last night that his party had won a major victory all because he'd issued a tweet against Ossoff. We'll need to redefine the meaning of victory, clearly.

Trump must have been reading the Martinez book on 'losing doesn't matter as long as you play well'.

He still hasn't had a "win", not even a small one. Travel bans were struck down, trumpcare failed and the new replacement just released looks dead already, budget is loaded and doesn't look likely to excite repubs, still hasn't filled his cabinet or other positions laying dormant while many are quitting their positions.

I've read analysis saying he needs to just get a gimme win, little small bill or something, just completely compromise to win so you can get momentum. He doesn't understand the complexity of what He doing and he's trying to run it like a business of which it is not.

He claims the appointment of Judge Gorsich is a huge win.

good point, a moderate win, it went all the way to pence to pass which has never happened before.

Incidentally, I suspect the Christian Right is going to get a bit of a shock with Neil Gorsich. They see him as their ally, but he's an Episcopalian (read C of E) and not a Baptist.

yeah like all things they say one thing but when actually given a position of power and no one to report to, the real person comes out. look how roberts turned out, Bush thought he was a conservative, he's turned moderate/slightly liberal now.

He's such an embarassment. Let me just please state again that he's not a representation of Americans. The only reason he won is because the Clintons have such a bad name over here. He will not last more than more term AT MOST.

It's a representation of the two main party members who couldn't think of two better candidates to go to the polls with.

You really were stuck between a rock and a hard place.

There were plenty of great candidates. Sanders vs Kasich? It's just that extremists dominate the primaries, which is when candidates are chosen. The message is: always vote.

I agree, and I'm glad you see this. I voted Clinton, but I didn't walk away from the polls feeling happy about my choice. It's literally the lesser of the two evils... a terrible concept.

Sanders was the Dem I wanted, and Kasich was a very solid choice. Problem is people view Sanders as too "socialist," and Kasich had no personality on the national front. Either of them would be a million times better than what we have now. I actually wanted Kasich, even though I'm more of a democrat.
