Trump in charge (ex race for the US presidency thread)

Recommended Posts

agreed. the country has become so polarized politcally that even republicans who hate trump will still vote for him because their news propoganda (Fox news, rupert murdoch) tells them Democrats are of Satan and will destroy the world. So they just blindly listen to them and vote republican. Sad really. My parents are those exact people sadly, so i'm not just trying to trash republicans, I have first hand experience. They take anything on the television as gospel.

I find it sad and disturbing how clearly rational and educated people can be brainwashed so easily.

Is it really that bad or is that an exaggeration, and if so on a scale of 1-10 what's the chance of him getting into power?

10 being definitely.

No, the parallels are scary.

Yes, it really is that bad. I'd put money on him winning right now.

That's a scary thought. The worlds mad enough without letting some egotistical megalomaniac loose with the biggest firm in the world.

The primary elections are not binding. The parties need to demonstrate guts. Trump is a bigoted, racist, dangerous narcissist: If his party chooses him as their candidate, they deserve to be utterly destroyed. Clinton is a likely criminal and consistent liar, and her party deserves to be destroyed if they choose her.

A tell-all book about Hillary, written by a member of her security detachment, is set for release shortly (it's already #1 in Amazon's bestseller list based on advanced orders). Its basic premise, it seems, is that Hillary, away from the cameras, is a nasty, scheming individual who is emotionally unstable. The author clearly believes she's unfit for office.

And then there's the court case against Trump University, which is going to reveal just what a scumbag Donald Trump is - making personal fortunes out of the naive and vulnerable.

I get the sense that the electorate doesn't want either candidate - I mean, really doesn't want either candidate. Let's see which party, if either, has the guts to override the highly unrepresentative sample of voters who opted for Trump or Clinton.

i've been hearing about this more and more that the Repubs will at the convention just override Trump and go with their own candidate. I've heard the same with Clinton that once she's mired in Scandal with the emails and FBI it will be Vice President Biden (blue collar democrat, working man's candidate) with running mate Elizabeth Warren (a far left progressive liberal). I think Biden/Warren could win big, he gets the blue collar union manufacturing types and she gets the educated left and young vote (the young people in this country are heavily left leaning, hence bernie sanders doing so well).

Pad to be honest i don't think Trump has a chance, i think the "people in power" be it banks or military or whatever, will find a way to not let him win or make sure he doesn't win. I don't think the real people that rule our country (banks, wall street, large corporations) want Trump, they want a Clinton type who they can control and have do their bidding.

Didn't realise that, but seems incredibly undemocratic!

Whats Biden like? Remember reading about him but it was years ago

He reminds me of Prince Philip - always putting his foot in his mouth. The crazy uncle who farts at parties and everyone pretends they notice nothing.

Well bugger, just when there was a moment of hope...

he was a senator for many many many years. very well versed in politics. similar to obama but more blue collar working man type policies and the like. he's like the old grandad that was fiesty and stuff but now is just like 'ive done it all happy to be here and all that"

i'd be more excited about Elizabeth Warren than him.

Clinton is 68, Trump is 69, Sanders is 74 and Biden is 73. And they're running to become President for 4 years.. I don't get it.

1) why don't they just retire and enjoy their last days

2) where do they get the energy? My mom's 64 and she's exhausted after watching my kids for a couple of hours..

Think that while I sit down to egg and chips tonight I may get involved with US politics by watching a blockbuster film.

Nailin' Palin aught to do the job.

Think he may get a few more voters after last night's horrific scenes at the Pulse nightclub.

I feel horrendous for those 50+ people who have lost their lives. Police officers included.

He probably arranged it.

But in all seriousness; dreadful.

I have no doubt Trump will benefit from this. Absolutely shocking though, will there ever be gun control in the states?

No. The NRA (gun lobby) controls more than half of all the repubs and democrats. They say you want to be in politics well give you 25 million for your campaign, but now you're our bitch and have to vote yes on all gun stuff.

Sad really.

No. The argument wheeled out every time is that bad guys will have guns whereas law-abiding citizens will no longer have the means to defend themselves. There's an element of truth to this, since Pandora's box in open; nonetheless, there's absolutely no reason why many of the more lethal weapons, and the more despicable forms of ammo, shouldn't be banned immediately. It's a cultural thing - rather like asking for sales of alcohol to be banned or severely restricted in Britain.

It's becoming a joke matt. Had a chat with my wife what we would do if he got elected. I fear it could be like Castro when he took power, people leave for the first year or 2 and then the borders are closed.

Taking a real look at Italy and France right now.

When do they choose running mates? Any good candidates there?

Surely Hilary's chances would go through the roof if she picked Sanders; or is that never going to happen? ie she wouldn't ask and/or he wouldn't accept.

won't happen, but she could pick the female sanders, Elizabeth Warren. She's very liberal, popular with the young, anti-big banks, and anti wall street. she's campaigning for her right now. That would surely get all those Bernie voters won over to hillary.

Trump running mates, i've heard his daughter is very astute, would be a Trump Trump ticket. no joke. Also heard Chris Christie former NJ governer. Some other repub retreads. No real "wow" candidates because he destroyed them all in the primaries so no one wants to jump in bed with him.

Would an "all female" ticket not be a step too far for some?

i've thought the same mike, but i think Hillary herself gets the minority and over 65 vote for democrats. Warren gets the under 65 vote. And that's a wrap right there. Trump will get the republican votes and those that despise both will vote for Gary Johnson the Libertarian candidate (which is essentially a vote for Hillary). Unless all the independents just love Trump or hate Hillary that much, I just can't see him winning, he's too polarizing. Although the Remain vote said the same thing, so who knows anymore?

Is she the "rock" or "hard place" candidate?

it's either a racist facist narcissist or a career politician. she is the latter. no real decision for me, it's easy, Hillary all the way. She's in bed with all the scummy politicians and banks but at least she won't cause WWIII or turn our country into a pre-WWII Germany.

Most people I know would prefer none of the above. There's a feeling of despair around the place right now. Donald is an out-of-control narcissist, and Hillary is an untrustworthy sleazeball. Virtually no-one trusts either one of them. The party conventions could choose different candidates but are unlikely to have the guts to do so.

It will be interesting to see whether the Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, garners enough support in polls to participate in the upcoming debates.

he won't steve, he will be lucky to get 5% of the overall vote nationally. vault me on that. when it comes down to it Dems will vote hillary, repubs vote trump, some will not vote.

My father in law said he wouldn't even get to candidature, let alone election. I don't think it will anywhere near as landslide as you're implying there, it will be very, very close in my opinion

right but you have said previously they are republicans i think (correct me if wrong). so that's a vote for hillary essentially. not voting at all helps her, because trump needs every republican vote plus independents, he won't get them.

Father In Law is, but grandparents are Trump fans.

Anyway... It's a clusterfuck.

I have high hopes for the vp choices. I could get excited about a Clinton-Warren ticket. And something like Trump-Palin has hilarious written all over it.
