nogs 1,136 Report post Posted August 31, 2016 Might be worth a thread of its own this, but what do you think the strategy is with the U23s? We seemed to start signing promising youngsters at 18/19 (ie post Academy age) under Moyes and it has kept going. Very few have made the first team, but our youth set up looks very strong. We've just beaten Bolton, who are top of League 1, with a team full of U19s, and just sold one of those young signings for something like a 1000% profit. So is it all about business and making money, or is Unsworth plotting a future all-conquering first team with these youngsters?

Spend 1m on 15 youngsters and hope 1 turns out to be stones or holgate or the like who you can have as a first team or sell for more than the 15m you invested in those youngsters. Simple game of numbers.

MikeO 11,040 Report post Posted September 28, 2016 Interesting to see the positive words about Niasse in that article. Agreed; I thought Ronald was premature in saying he has no future at the club. If he keeps on scoring for the U23s I hope he's not too stubborn to give him a chance, particularly if we have injuries. And Calvert-Lewin sounds very promising. Guest rusty747 Report post Posted October 19, 2016 I'm torn between not rushing him into the first team set up and bringing in a fresh young face to freshen our attack up. On balance, I would like to see him come off the bench, maybe even at Burnley, if we are a couple of goals up. Whether that be in place of Lukaku or to play alongside him, I am not yet sure. But he does seem to be ready for a premier league shot. 1 Matt reacted to this
