I agree, I can’t really judge him until he is up top getting chances. Still needs time, but these England games are giving him valuable experience.

Do you think the two go hand in hand? Ie is he not getting the chances because of how he plays?

I dont really remember him missing many chances but does that mean he just isnt in the right positions or that his team mates arent finding him. Probably a bit of both.

I think it does yes.

He isn’t the type of player to make chances out of nothing, as he is more of an outlet type player. This is why I agree he needs to be with a partner up there.

Technically he is a very good player, he just needs to add goals to his game.

Good finish, he generated a lot of power which prevented Hennessy being able to palm it away. He's a valuable asset for us, and will continue to improve with game time and also under Marco who for me is showing why we wanted him so much.

Great goal for us today, good movement to find space, and a great header to direct it to the corner, and generate some pace.

There is a finisher in there, just needs games in order to develop those skills.

He can definitely finish with his head, he just needs to find that skill with his feet!

Just about to say the same thing. Class in the air, good hold up play, causes a lot of problems but if he could have more composure with his finishing he'd be on track to be class.

Two for England U-21's today, one a pen which apparently Liverpool fans are pissed off about because Solanke was on a hat-trick:D.

Seems to score easily for England. I wish he'd start scoring more for Everton!

Much easier opposition for the u21s than in the prem. I’d love to see him score at that rate for us.

I like him because he doesnt stop battling all game and he is starting to take his chances now too. At the weekend though he seemed constantly on a different wave length to the others and most moves broke down as a result.

Its tough because he probably needs a run of games with this squad of players but at the same time, can we justify starting him when every point matters?

To be fair he took his goal well but for me it wasn’t enough, he didn’t look dangerous all game and the goal saved him from the slating he was going to get, in fact some had already started before the goal.

Unfortunately not good enough for this standard of football.

I agree with the first bit. Not sure about the last bit.

Yeah, it is a tough one. The numbers show that he's only getting better every time he's given a game, yet the energy towards him seems so negative all the time. If he can establish himself as a focal point that encourages the wingers to be more productive then I'd say he's worth the start. I watched the City match in patches so I can't comment on his whole performance but it seems like he's our best option as far as balance is concerned.

Considering it’s a(nother) transition season, id say yes we can. It might not be easy watching but this season was and is about finding a good foundation again.

I looked at the stats for goal scoring and he finds the net 132 minutes as opposed to richy who is 171. I never rated him but my gut says give him a run of 10-15 games and lets see if he sustains anywhere near that return. Also  if he gets the one yesterday that should have been given he is on 6 for the season.

i'm with you, my MOTM, he was bumping and grinding with their CB's and keeping them honest too.  i like that he doesn't back down.  he looks like he bulked up too, the lad is buff in the chest now.

I have been his biggest crtitic and think he was given enough time last season but what i realised was that was in a side which didn't create chances. I agree with his attitude and I have never really faulted his workrate and aggression more his ability at finishing but having looked at the stats all be it over 10 games I think he has changed my mind. If he is given the rest of the season I can see him getting 15 -20 goals. The other thing having him gives us is richy plays in the wide position which he is much better suited too. I really wanted tosun to come good and but i don't think he can hack it in this league enough. Interestingly walcotts scored 4 this season in a better system I want him and richy on the wings as the first team and given DCL his game time.

I agree, I think this is our option to go for from now on, he does need to improve his finishing, but game time will give him that. His aerial prowess is something we need, he did a few nice flick ons yesterday bringing others into the game. His goal should have stood also, didn't see anything wrong live, and still can't on the replays.

With the lack of English strikers about he will probably make an England squad with a run of games. I really don’t know what to make of him if I’m honest. He’s a baby I guess in another few years he could be a different player

His positioning and placement for the goal at Bournemouth were clinical. I think he’s coming along; he shouldn’t be starting every game at this point, but he is clearly developing an eye for the goal that he hasn’t displayed in past seasons.

Love how DCL runs his socks even though he knows he will not get any service.  The most assists by a single player in our squad this season is 3.

So true. Most would only put forth the effort if they saw Digne with the ball at his feet. DCL willing to work even if it's Coleman, Walcott etc.

There needs to be a slight tweak to tactics (ie, Richarlison and Siggy, arguably CMs need to read the situation better), and he could be a great hold up striker

please give him a run!

Could be a very good player. You can see a bit of Ferguson in his play.

First time I’ve seen VVD concerned about a physical battle. He’s growing every game.

He's a tremendous athlete.  His leap is great.  Bulking up nicely too.  More to come from him.

That’s exactly what I saw. Gave probably the best defender in the best league in the world a tough game.

Well done DCL. Lads gonna be an Evertonian.

Very well put.

Yep, we’ve touched on this. I’d like him to get a little bit more size but not much. His shoulders are just so wide and he’s got some real power in his legs. Challenge him with these next 9 games and see if he can return some goals and assists.

His leap is great, wins most punts up field, and showed some lovely footwork today for a biggish lad. We're safe this season, give him the run in and let him really find his place in the team. I think he also gets us which is a big plus.

It was great to see some quality in his hold up play as well today. He has all the physical attributes to go to the very top if he can consistently produce quality on the ball that can match.

He did well, worked hard, but VVD showed he is a class act. Dominic did run him hard but I don’t think VVD will be too concerned.

Yes but VVD has swallowed plenty of strikers with bigger reputations. Dom is progressing well.

Disagree. VVD knew he had to work and that’s a good compliment to a young CF

Personally I don't see him ever being good enough, though I'd be very happy to be proved wrong.

I do think these type of games show him in his best light because its all about graft, which is his strongest suit. He impressed me in the 2nd half against Cardiff though and did the same today. Long may it continue!
