Weirdness Abounds (or the Idrissa Gana Gueye Thread)

Why the change of heart you have been the most prolific poster on it in the last few months?

You know when you invest hours in a computer game... complete it and then play it over and over again and you end up fighting the same monsters and zap them without thinking. That's when you know it's time to get a new game.

To be fair Haf we all keep going over the same arguments and nothing really changes, let’s see what Saturday brings it will hopefully freshen it up again with current points to discuss.

But what we need to do is keep the personal insults out of it because it brings the thread down and I believe stops others who may have some good points doing so because they can’t be bothered with the crap 💩

I,m astounded that any thread can go on so long, all its about is people with different opinions, some think he's good and some think he's bad. Why does it take so long to put ones point of view. ???

Lukaku thread is the same. 👻

All players have some games where they're better than others, this is a thread for discussing an Everton player and how he's playing and will continue for as long as he's still an Everton player. When he's no longer an Everton player it'll be moved to General Sport and will still get comments in all likelihood.

Same as we have a thread for every player, it's kind of the point of the forum:huh:.

Yeah I know its the way of the forum Mike, but it doesn't matter if he's playing well or not, people are still arguing and still putting forward their opinion good or bad, nobody's going to change it.

Put across your opinion and leave it there. No need to come back every day to repeat the same old monotonous rubbish.

Nah... the lukaku thread is still going. Was gonna post the video of him rapping... it's nearly as bad as his first touch.

What's the fiorentina forums like?

Crackin visual ...  it could be split into a 9 blocker where bottom left is shite and top right is excellent.

It doesn't indicate what type of passes they are as per Matt's comment but it essentially says..... he wins the ball more than anyone and doesn't give it away.

Awesome.

Just curious, but where’s the source of that graph? I’d be interested to see the actual breakdown of numbers and see if we can apply it elsewhere.

SofaScore is the original source of the data. I found the graph on the Everton subreddit. They also have one for Lucas Digne on there if anyone is interested.

Edit: Also just realized this data chart is done through Tableau, a statistical analysis software (one that I use). When I have more time I'll download the workbook and see what other data can be pulled in.

Unless we can replace him with a ball winning machine who has expansive talents then I don't think it's worth it.  He adds too much to the team.  Liverpool signed fabinho for £44m and isn'tt looking good.

Torreira at arsenal looks great but they would demand double what they paid.

I going to start thinking of Gana and Gomes as Tick and Tock for us, because those two really make us tick.

Obviously, Gomes is the far more expansive of the two but Gana allows him to play that game because he's the tenacious one. Our little Duracell bunny goes around retrieving the ball, and our Portuguese god gets it and moves it. Whether that's with a pass or with a driving run. But neither one can do their job without the other one. They are a true partnership. These two are as an important of a cog as Sigurdsson and Richarlison are for me.

And yeah, Gana will occasionally mess up in his pursuit of the ball (as he did at least once yesterday), but players aren't perfect and Gomes will make mistakes, but it doesn't take a thing away from the good they do, or how vital they are to us.

Best midfield partnership I've seen since Arteta and Carsley.

Barry and McCarthy were good but not as creative in terms of what Gomes gives us.

Gana looked to be more expensive yesterday... it shows he can do it but I would sooner he passes to someone more technical.

I think they are proving to be a formidable pairing,  we need to secure Gomes in the Jan window.

The gig in that midfield 2 is definitely theirs to lose. Again I didnt think Gana did anything special yesterday, another 6/10 but the beauty is that it its all he needs to do with Gomes.

Too often in the past Gana has been up and down, one great game and one piss poor game, but generally under Silva he has been more consistent but alongside Gomes he is able to just go about his business and just as importantly Gomes can also go about his.

Don’t need to wait for any windows to buy him, could take care of that at any point during the season. Don’t need to rush him, he can take his time settling in to the team and worry about his future in six months or so.

I think his stock is already far  higher than it was at any stage of his Barca career.

Your not concerned that he may get better and better and if we leave for 6 months or so we could end up in a auction and he gets an offer which is more suitable to him and his family.

Just a thought.

i meant it more in his case.  didn't have a good time at Barca, sure he will get offers but what if those club situations turn out like Barca?  Everton he likes, is settled, knows what to expect and has the fans/club/manager/players already on his side, i would think having that in hand would give us the advantage over the clubs that just try and throw money at him.  his depression at barca was well documented.

I'd be extremely surprised if discussions aren't going on every week. Remember, we started negotiations for Rom on a permanent transfer before he even signed on loan, and it took 15 months or something like that.

Multi-million deals take a long time. Even last minute signings will have most of the leg work and negotiation done. For me, the biggest concern is whether the lad will want to stay or if he'll be promised more of a prominent role at Barca upon his return. He seems to have settled here brilliantly, and looks like he's enjoying his time, but if he's told Barca really want him then it's going to be a lot harder.

If he gets an offer that’s better for him and his family then staying here isn’t a good idea to start with. Maybe.

Get him signed before they have to face the depths of an English winter that's enough to put any Mediterranean off😁

It just shows how some partnerships are made in heaven while others are made in hell. If Gana and Gomes are tick and tock, then Gana and Schneiderlin were matter and antimatter.

Not many better cities in the world than Barcelona. Not many bigger clubs either.... yet he was miserable.

Maybe he knows more than anyone that his happiness isn'tt aligned to money, location or stature of club.... it's the feeling that he is wanted and appreciated for his talents....that he is fulfilling something dear to him.  He can do that here.

I agree with your sentiments I just think we need to get him signed sooner rather than later, why prolong it and gamble that others don't come in and turn his head.

I think everyone knows he's exactly what we want and we don't need to see anymore of him to make sure, so just get on with making an offer the longer we leave it the harder it could get.

I'd pay £50m right now.   Sounds dramatic but I'm serious..... never did I dream he would be this good.

He may dip but his performances without a preseason in a league that is different to anything he has played in has been a pleasant surprise.

He could be worth £70m plus by the end of the season and if that's the case Barca will get that or keep him.  I agree... move in now.

Of course it could be that having Gana beside him Is helping him better his game.

Could he have been paired with the wrong players at Barca.

Mots refreshing that this thread isn’t the usual rubbish, but let’s not make it a Gomez thread either haha.

Agree completely, I think as the season progresses he will want to stay. Marco already said they aren’t putting any pressure on him yet, just letting him enjoy himself. I think he’ll want to stay.

Here's one for you. We paid £7m for Gueye in 2016. How much would you expect to see him go for now?

Four or five times that as it stands, more if we keep him longer and he keeps playing at the level he is.
