I wish we would go for Yedlin. Apparently going to Newcastle for 3mil. He would be a good understudy/cover to Coleman.

If the sport was just about how athletic you are, I'd say Yedlin is a great shout. Unfortunately, the sport involves kicking a ball and using your brain. These are two areas where Yedlin is severely lacking.

I personally think this will happen. Cheap low risk back up right who Koeman knows already. Didn't see a lot of him last season but his goal against Arsenal was incredible - possibly my favourite goal last season for just how he hit it. For that moment he turned into a right footed Roberto Carlos.

I don't think you've watched Yedlin in awhile. He has massively improved since playing at Sunderland.

he's an average RB for 3m. not an average GK for 30m. big difference pal, i knew you were going to hop in here with that.

thought we were pushing on from average? ;)

EVERTON 'IN MARTINA BID'

Everton have made a £1.25million move for Southampton right backCuco Martina, according to the Daily Mail.

Martina was with manager Ronald Koeman at Saints last season, and the Dutchman reportedly wants competition for Seamus Coleman.

Have him.

He reminds me of Carlton Palmer.

Has a tendency of going from complete mediocrity - no control, no vision, little defensive nous, explaining why Twente fans were so surprised we bought him (although the fact that Erwin Koeman managed there suggests this was his transfer allocation...) - to fairly proficient attacking football, good height in the box and composed passing (the defensive nous is still not really there, though).

Add onto that the fact he seems like he's a good lad who likes a laugh on the training ground and is well liked by the squad, who scored possibly one of the greatest Saints goals I've ever seen at St Marys...

He's earned a weird place in our history as this unpredictable conundrum with an increasing cult following. He won't be anything special, and will probably be resigned to a permanent backup to the next man. He can be alright, even having good games, and our opinion of him was largely affected by the fact he was better than a troubled Cedric Soares. In other words, we thought of him as better than he might be, simply because he provided a minimum of what we required from a right back. Soares was liable of being run over at times last season.

Expect him to go now we have bought Pied in, who Puel knows well and hasn't brought in to be a third choice. He'll compete with Soares.

If he is no better than Holgate and Kenny then I really don't see the point

This is something that winds me up.

Clubs go out and spend money on players that are no better than the youth they have. And then yet again the youth suffocate.

my guess is he doesn't rate conolly or kenny. or doesn't think they're ready for first team action. have they been loaned in the championship yet? played first team football in the lower leagues? that could be an issue as well.

not sure aithout looking, but if that's an issue why hasn't he sent them out on loan? Assuming Rhino is having his say here

Isn't Connolly a CB by trade or am I getting confused?

Was he the lad that started at RB against Norwich and then got injured and was replaced by someone else I can't remember!?

I'm not sure if he's a CB naturally, but it was Kenny who replaced him during that game. Played well too.

pennington used to be a RB, spent a loan out as RB but then came back and RM said he's a CB i thought. played the last match for us last season as a CB.

Pennington is a CB. Always has been. He's just been used at RB at times, in the same way we've done it with Galloway at LB.

gotcha, but i'm not going crazy right? he did spend a year on loan playing RB somewhere i thought.

He had a year at Coventry - may have played RB. He was their unofficial player of the season but they wouldn't award it to a loanee. He was at Walsall until we recalled him last season but pretty sure he played CB for Walsall.

He played CB for Tranmere too.

Highly thought of by all clubs that's played for as well.

I think he impressed most of us too in what was a defensively 'unorganised' (at best) Martinez team towards the end of last season. I hope he can come back and benefit from Koeman's stewardship.

Definitely. I knew fans of his loan clubs all rated him but having not watched him myself I didn't have a solid opinion. But, like you said, he looked good in his few appearances for us. He acquitted himself well.

Yes you are correct

Thanks Dunc.

Regarding Pennington he looks a pure old fashioned style defender, perfect for the lower leagues so no surprise he has done well there.

I know he got game time under Martinez however I think he will suit Koeman's style more.

If it stops Holgate playing right back and provides competition for Kenny in Coleman's absence then it makes sense. I'd love Trippier (which won't happen as it now seems he's got a future at Spurs) but signing a player like him would be as first choice - it's clear Coleman is still first choice but obviously not available for the foreseeable future. A signing like this may actually give Kenny more chances but still offer us experienced competition naturally in that position from a player Koeman knows well.

Koeman favourite isn't he, signed him for Southampton. I don't rate him and would rather play Kenny.

Not really a favorite he was a cheap signing to cover for clyne being sold I believe and then did enough to Lee that RB spot.

Thought Koeman managed him in Holland too?

Southampton mates of mine tell me he is shite.

I thought it was only me who communicated with other people about football matters using a medium other than the internet?

How dare you.

Anybody watching him could tell you he was/is shite.

No room for sentiments in some capacity (for Ron) but in other ways (Stek) he can't fuck them off. Don't care if he's on a free if he's not going to add anything.

Might as well hire me, i'll play for £5k a week and my agent (the mrs) only wants a 4 bedder.

Mixed reviews are what you get from backup RBs. On a free he could be valuable in the Europa League. Kenny would be better served to go on loan to Champ side so we need cover and this allows Holgate to shift to CB when Coleman returns.
