Sevilla (Home Friendly) Sunday August 6th

Recommended Posts

This is a big match for me. 3 in a row Europa winner turned perennial Champions League participant doing it the right way through Monchi (now gone to Roma) building young talented players buying young and selling high. Attractive football as well.

Should be a great match, they just beat Arsenal 2-1 with N'Zonzi striking a really nice goal.

Great test before the season starts as I expect them to be tougher than Stoke so it should be a good reality check before the season starts.

No way is any friendly going to be tougher than any premier league match. Hopefully it'll be entertaining/encouraging but the result will be meaningless.

I imagine we will make a few changes for this.

I doubt Rooney, Klaasen, Schneiderlin, Baines or Williams will start.

I wouldnt expect more than 45 mins from Sandro either.

I hope we get to see DCL start up front, 90 mins for Kenny and Lookman too.

Ghoat no idea sorry, I'm away on vacation this weekend.

Mike I mean they have a better side and players.

I know mate but its importance and intensity is nowt compared to the Stoke game, given the next four league fixtures Stoke is an essential win; Sevilla the result means nothing.

Pickford

Holgate Jags Keane Baines

Morgan

Gana klaassen

Rooney Sandro Mirallas

That's the squad is expect to start against Stoke and therefore the one I expect to start tomorrow.

Southampton beat them 2-0 however I'm not sure if either side fielded their strongest squad. I'd imagine Sevilla put a weakened side out due to playing us

tomorrow.

Both sides looked pretty strong to me.

Would like to have seen Gana, get him in for our next 2 matches and he should be sharp to do the inevitable job he is going to do the 4 games after Stoke.

As for that I'm happy. Pleased to see DCL in the squad after his performance last time out. Only drama is he's been shifted over to the wing (presumably).

v Soria, Mercado, Pareja, Lenglet, Escudero, Pizarro, NZonzi, Banega, Montoya, Correa y Ben Yedder

No idea how strong a line-up that is, but I like the look of us.

I like our line up too depending on how those front 3 line up. DCL up top and the other 2 supporting from wide would be great.

Looks a strong Sevilla lineup too but I think a fair few of them played yesterday.

I expect a lot of changes from both sides at half time.

I know, are we really that short on players to come in? also we have 2 RB on the bench and are playing a CB at RB, has Koeman got that little confidence in them, because he brought Martina in only the other week, if he's that bad then Ronald needs to have a look at himself imo.

What a surprise. DCL losing pobsession whenever the ball is played to him because he is isolated and always under pressure.

Solid save from Pickford. An equaliser is coming.

He's not doing the worst, considering.

Klaassen struggling out there I'm not sure he knows what's he's expected to do.

Put Rooney behind the striker and get mirallas or Lookman in at half time.

Mention for Pickford his Kicking is world class

I'm genuinely worried tbh. This goes beyond preseason jitters or rustiness or whatever. We came out like lightning, now it's more like direction-less sludge.

When we cannot control the play or when we cannot string few passes together, its worrying

No definitely, can't fault the player he is doing all he can.

I know what you mean about Klaassen. Covering lots of ground without making an impact.

I've never seen a keeper complete so many passes.

Another boring and defensive half of football.

It's a waste to play Rooney, DCL or Sandro wide so I think we need to play 442. Maybe put Klaassen wide and use Mirallas/Lookman left. We can't keep giving the ball back to them so cheaply and we need to start playing in their half not ours.

Keane and Pickford both looking excellent buys.

I don't mean this with any disrespect, but at the moment we are more akin to a midtable Championship side than a top PL side fighting for a top 4 place.

The positive I can take away from the past 3 matches is that our defence seems to be somewhat tightened up , albeit we haven't faced true attacking prowess either.
