Hajduk Split (Europa League Leg 1) [Home] Thursday August 17th

Recommended Posts

It would be nice to win this by a couple goals and a clean sheet. The two league matches sandwiched in between of City and Chelsea both away I would play for draws and go all out for the Europa matches.

Pickford

Martina Jags Keane Baines

Gana Schneiderlin Klaassen

Sandro Rooney DCL

I would hope that we could rest Keane, Schneiderlin and Rooney and still win this. The City game will need them at 100%. Will be on Koeman to ensure guys are fresh. I hope he can do it.

Why rest players 3 games into the season? I'd get later in the season but now? nah.

Full strength.

not thinking rest wise, thinking rotation to keep everyone happy. these 4 matches in 11 days kinda situations are always tough, i hope Koeman speaks about how he views them in the presser to see what he's thinking.

The game vs Split is far far more important to what we want to accomplish this season than Man City. We should certainly be playing our strongest possible team for that one.

If they were the sole rights holders the qualifier wouldn't have been on itv4 last time.

They're allowed to "sub-licence" if they want, which must be what happened because BT definitely have sole rights.

Agree with that but Rooney in for Lookman.

I'd imagine were going to have to break these lot down, plus I want Rooney to play as much as possible.

He's 31 not 41 I'm sure he can do it

Lookman needs game time tho, and I know hes only 31 but he has played every pre season game, and qualifier. He can always come on as a sub if needed.

Play players with something to prove.

Mirallas, Barry, Holgate, Davies (not that he needs to prove anything but im fairly certain that Gana, Morgan and Klaassen are ahead of him in the pecking order), Lookman.

Mix them up with quality that needs game time. Rooney, Jags, Williams, Baines, Pickford.

My starting 11:

Pickford

Holgate, Williams, Jags, Baines

Barry, Davies, Gana

Lookman, Rooney, Mirallas

I honestly wouldn't piss about in this game, Split are a decent enough team, we need to take at least a 2 goal lead to their place, Rooney would be starting for me, Sandro benched until the second half to use his pace to stretch their defence.

Pickford

Keane Jags Williams

Holgate Morgs Gana Baines

Klassan Rooney

DCL

Got my lad with me for this game so hopefully its better than his first game, FA cup last season at home to Leicester....

Fist game of the season as I couldn't get to the Stoke game.

Found out today I'm finishing early tomorrow so straight from Pompey to Merseyside!

Even managed to get my seat, although my Mrs was taken.

Yeah really want to see the tie effectively finished here with a truckload of goals. Goals conceded or a 1-0 win for us heaps pressure on the 2nd leg.

Couple of bench players from last week starting, but the core should remain.

Pickford

Martina Keane Jags Baines

Gana

Davies Klaasen

Rooney DCL Mirallas

Want to know something so tragic, so awful it will make your cat cry in sympathy?

I will be in Liverpool on match day (tomorrow) not only that I will be on Priory road.

BUT I can not go to the game. :crying:

Why you thinking that Matt? Just different to what he's been doing recently?

why? sandro is injured.

Forgot about that

I was surprised to see DCL dropped, thought Davies would get a nod as would Holgate. Lookman is being given a lot of responsibility here too.

Not disappointed by the line up, if anything we look like we've got balance. Better word would've been surprised

Was hoping to see Davies from start. He deserves it

Couldn't agree more. The lad needs more time on the pitch than Koeman is giving him now.
