Not even sure what lineup we will see here.  Cup match so i'm not sure if Sunderland is going to take it seriously or go for the promotion and slag off the cup.  First teamers trying to grow the chemistry or second teamers to see who should get some starting time?  That's the question for me.  I'd play this lineup 433

                       Pickford

    Holgate Keane Jags Baines

    Davies   Schneiderlin  Gana

                      Gylfi

           Sandro      DCL

I was going to post the same lineup :)

Could be the chance to experiment.

                    Pickford

Holgate... Keane..... Jagielka.... Baines

Vlasic .... Davies ... Besic... Mirallas

              D C Lewin .... Sandro

We have to try and find players who want to go forward, and who want to win.

Like MJB, I don't know what sort of lineup Koeman will go with.  The Sunderland match is near the middle of 6 matches in 18 days, and it's the first of 4 matches in 12 days.  Koeman has somewhere in the past few days referred to this busy scheduled and that he has to rotate the squad somewhat.  That seems obvious and sensible to me; others may disagree.

We're at a very delicate moment.  We desperately need a win, yet for me this is the least important of our 4 straight Goodison matches.  I don't totally discount the League Cup, but at this specific time and in these specific circumstances, EPL and EL matches take priority.  Rooney needs a rest, Baines, too (good luck on selecting Baines's replacement).  I hope we are capable of beating Sunderland - near the Championship relegation zone themselves - even with a lot of rotation.

I'd like to see ......

Stekelenburg

Holgate Keane Jagielka

Martina Besic Vlasic

Klaassen Mirallas

Sandro DCL

Mirallas shouldn't be getting ahead of anyone after his antics during the summer. I'd rather Lookman got time to learn than let him on the pitch again

Lukaku got ahead of everyone after his antics for the past 3 seasons, don't see why Mirallas shouldn't,. Can't play any worse than what our players are at the mo.

Lukaku didn't play with another clubs emblem on him. Plus, we had no alternative to him. We do, for Mirallas

We need to see some consistency. I saw enough today to show that 5 can work, it's all about higher pressure and being the dominant team instead of sitting back.

Pickford.

Kenny Holgate Keane Jags Baines

Besic

Davies Gana Vlasic

DCL

Bench

Stek / Martina / Williams / Klaasen / Lookman / Mirallas + another CM.

Give Schneiderlin, Rooney and Siggy a complete rest.

I was half tempted to swerve this game because of how shite we have been recently, but hey ho, i'll support us through thick and thin. Sunderland aren't doing great in the Championship at the moment but I still think this will be a tough game, 2-0. Would like to see Niasse at minimum make the bench, would start Sandro in hope he gets his first goal of the season.

Be a few former lads for them who will likely be fired up for this game.

I think Koeman needs to be a lot more defensive minded when it comes to our starting 11. His philosophy of going out all attack this season just isn't working. At home in this one against an in form Championship team so i can see Koeman being very wary of their threat going forward.

so taking the piss aside i would like to see.

                                                          Pickford

                              Kenny      Jags        Keane      Baines

                                                         Besic

                             Lennon        Davies     Vlasic      Mirallas

                                                      Sandro/Niasse

IMO we are crying out to start 2 wingers this season.

I think we have to rotate the team in this game as Sunderland aren't faring too well in the Championship so I doubt they'll want to have the extra cup games. I'd go for...

                Pickford

       Holgate Keane Besic

Kenny Davies Klassen Baines

  Lookman Niasse Vlasic.

I get the desire to rotate, but the thing we need most of all is consistency (for the long term), secondly a win (short term). So I'd be going full throttle at them where possible

If we play two DMs against these I'll lose it.  Seems funny to say about a league cup match, but this is an absolute must win.  If we've got any spirit in the squad we should give these an absolute pasting.   This is now the start of the season.   Would love to rotate out Baines but I don't think we have anyone else unless we get real creative

----------- -----------Pickford---------------------

--------    Holgate - Keane - Jags --------

Kenny ------------------------------------Gilfyi (???)---

---------------------Schneiderlein- --------------

Davies----------------Klassen ------Vlasic
