Lateralus by Tool -- really good shout. Very influential to me in the way that I play drums.

Some of these may not be the "best" (in all categories) but they'd be, with little thinking time to pack, what I'd take to a desert island.

Albums...

Neil Young (so difficult to decide which) - Harvest (with Rust Never Sleeps hidden in my pants).

Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn

Counting Crows - This Desert Life

REM - Out of Time

Dean Friedman ‎– "Well, Well," Said The Rocking Chair.

Films...

Papillon

The Dam Busters

Shawshank

M*A*S*H

My Cousin Vinny

Books...

Catch-22

The Book Thief

Cold Mountain

Great Expectations

Birdsong

Box sets...

Dr Who (modern era, be a big set for all series mind)

Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul (one choice surely?)

My Name is Earl

Vikings

Game of Thrones

I thought M*A*S*H was a tv show?

Film first, TV series followed. TV series was great also but for some reason the repeats they show now on whatever obscure channel it is they use the American "canned laughter" version. When it was first shown here there was no pretend studio audience, can't bear to watch it in the format shown now.

Wow this is hard... I think a top 5 would depend on my mood at the time but these would definitely be in their relevant categories:

Albums

Jay Z - Reasonable Doubt

J Cole - Forest Hill Drive

Notorius BIG - Ready to Die

Box Set

Vikings

Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul

(Nothing else comes close to these two)

Films

Anchorman

On a side note with films I have this slightly weird thing where I dont remember what happens. I generally remember if I liked it or not but give it a couple of months and I will be able to watch a film again and not remember the twists. Some times I might remember the ending but not how it gets there. I have no idea how people can remember monologue and stuff like that.

Controversial stuff across the pond I think, America really is another planet.

I've been more of a comic book reader in my younger years so won't bore you with those 😁

I listened to such a wide variety of music growing up and in my younger years it's hard to put a list together but the following come to mind

Albums

The Who - Quadrophenia

Roger Daltrey - McVicar

The Clash - London Calling

Oasis - Morning Glory

Marvin Gaye - Motown (best male vocalist ever imo)

Series in no particular order

GOT

Breaking Bad

Boardwalk Empire

Narcos

Peaky Blinders

Films again like series I just can't list them in any order and far to many to list

Heat

Sleepers

God Father Trilogy

Road to Perdition

A Bronx Tale

Harder than I thought that 😂

TV Series:

1. Boardwalk Empire

2. Breaking Bad

I'm going to be the odd man out, that's for sure! Also, when I saw "box sets", I assumed it was a set of LP records, but it seems it's maybe a box of DVDs? I decided to give that category a miss.

Albums:-

1. Tenth Symphony of Gustav Mahler (Mazzetti edition), Leonard Slatkin conducting the St Louis Symphony Orchestra
2. Midsummer Marriage  by Michael Tippett, Colin Davis conducting the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House
3. The Dream of Gerontius by Edward Elgar, Andrew Davis conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus
4. A Song of the Night by Gustav Holst, Janice Graham solo violin with the English Sinfonietta
5. Requiem by Amadeus Mozart (any recording, really)

Films:-

1. Where Eagles Dare
2. Brassed Off
3. Lord of the Rings trilogy
4. Sherlock (Cumberbatch series)
5. Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett series)

Books:-

1. The Bible (King James translation, despite its many mistranslations)
2. Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy
3. A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens
4. Dreadnought, by Robert Massey
5. Morse mysteries, by Colin Dexter
(5b. Matthew Shardlake mysteries, by CJ Sansom)

I love seeing what's in other people's record collections, or what's on their bookshelves (or should that be what's on their phones / Kindle? 🤔?). You can really find an affinity to people through shared art / passions (even though your personalities may be very different!).

Albums

Joni Mitchell - Hejira

Kula Shaker - Peasants, Pigs and Astronauts

The Doors - LA Woman or Morrison Hotel

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

XTC - Skylarking

Films

Laura (1944)

Night of the Demon  (1957)

Alien (1979)

LA Confidential (1997)

The Prestige (2006)

Books

James Ellroy - LA Quartet

Tolkien - LOTR

Thomas Hardy - Tess of the d'Urbevilles

Mervyn Peake - Gormenghast trilogy

Charles Dickens - Great Expectations

Box Sets

Battlestar Galactica (new series)

Breaking Bad

Mad Men

The X-Files

Caprica

I've only got two books on Kindle, Cornish Steve's and Jenson Button's autobiography; slightly diverse offerings:D.

When it comes to books I think that anyone who doesn't have Catch-22 on their list...

a) Hasn't read it.

b) Needs psychological evaluation.

Not a big fiction reader. 99% of my reads in the last 15 years have been biographies.  I may give it a go though!
