Concerned about the centre back issue. Especially when Mina is on international duty.

Means he’s not fouling anyone we’re playing against ;)

If there's an international break we won't be playing:huh:.

When he’s playing in Colombia on a Tuesday and we are playing on a Saturday. It’s going to have an effect on him. He can’t speak much English as Keane said in an article this week so that has a bearing on a centre back relationship. Just think we are well short. If Keane gets injured or suspensions happen we are going to get torn apart

Nah, these people don't travel like us mere mortals; first class luxury each way just like having a nice kip at home. Have you seen the "seats" (bigger than my first flat some of them) people have to "suffer" nowadays? Not a problem.

A comfy seat on a plane is no solution for jet lag though, it’d still take several days to get back on track.

I'm talking full on beds not comfy seats; any number of South American players manage OK, why will Yeri be different?

Might hate flying? No idea what time the flight is either, so he may not be able to sleep even if it’s a queen sized bed. This is coming from a long term insomniac who hates flying mind you

This has turned into a thread about us but it started as a thread about the whole league. Now the window is done what does everyone think? Who you think will go down? Who will challenge the top six? Who has been the Best Buy etc?

I’ll have to have a look tomorrow at who went where. Decent overview of all the transfers for the league here though

So, another young and promising attacker to finish the window with. Keeps the average age around 24 right? If we exclude Coleman, Gylfi and Walcott. That’s a base for the next 3-4 years and maybe some prolonged stability after years of uncertainty :o

We really need to be patient as fans this year, that’s going to be vital. This season is, as I’ve said before, the stabilising season after a season of damage control. I think we’ll be 6-8th but I’m expecting big things for the season after.

I agree with all of that apart from Beni. No sign of him getting in that midfield at all. The way we play the two in the middle he has to get Gomes, Delph, Gbamin, Davies and Schneiderlin ahead of him.

Oh, and Davies isn’t a number ten.

Whilst like everyone here I want us to win trophies, this season  I'll be happy with breaking into the top 6 or even 4 and a good cup run, as long as we play attractive and entertaining football, which we were doing at the end of the season at home. COYB !

that is where silva plays davies, he subs gylfi and puts davies up there.  beni could well be loaned or morgan sold and beni is 4th choice cm.  i'm just putting the people on there to show depth.

i'm excited about the young team.  building for a team to compete for years not just flash in the pans.  like matt said there will be patience required, but i have faith we are finally on the right track with Brands and Silva.  i haven't felt this excited since Martinez first year.

That last line sums up my feelings too. Just hope, that since Silva has had a season now, that he doesn’t do a Martinez and try and change everything overnight otherwise patience will quickly  dissipate

He takes off Gylfi and brings Davies on, but then Davies moves in with the other two midfielders and the pattern of play changes. Davies is competing for a place in the two midfield positions, not the number ten position. It’s juts not his game to play up there.

I agree with the depth, but take Beni out of there and we still have depth. The kid isn’t even close to getting in Silvas team.

Surprises me that so many think we can achieve top 6 with Keane, Mina and Holgate as our only recognised CBs.

My worry as well. I'm really hoping Mina performs well. We definitely need some CB cover.

Definitely short in that position.

Gbamin played 11 games at CB 2 season ago but has predominantly played DM. Maybe they feel that’s just enough until January and are hoping Zouma hasn’t played for chelsea enough. I don’t know, definitely a risk.

Today’s OS has a piece in which Silva announces that Schneiderlin is staying at Everton.  Which begs the question: are Mirallas, Martina, Niasse, Bolasie, and Tosun “staying at Everton”?  Still a few weeks to find some takers on a free transfer in European leagues?  Bolasie seems to have turned down a move to Zenit, owing to concerns about their fans’ racism.

Would we prefer to sell Tosun, or is he our 3d-choice striker who might play some in cup matches?  Any of the others?  Will we hear another word about any of Mirallas, Niasse, Bolasie, or Martina, even the standard, “X is fighting for his place in the squad”?

I can understand why there’s still a glimmer of hope about Tosun.  My view is that if Niasse came on in the 70th minute of 15 matches, he’d score 3-4 goals and get us a few points.  I’d understand if on that scenario I’m a minority of one.

Think we'll have a weak start to the season to be honest, but will pick up after a bit of a settling in period after the coming and going of players. I feel we'll see more from Bernard and think he may be the one to up his game and stand out the Blues. Although I have us finishing in 7th place, I really believe we'll end up nearer the 10th spot. But what do I know about football? F*ck all is what.

I am worried that the first two are both a bit too slow and cumbersome, especially in an attacking system like Silva's. We could get ripped apart on the counter if we aren't clever.

I agree he plays in a different way, but not by loads. He drops in deeper than Siggy but he is still noticeably the one drifting between the lines of defenders when he comes on.

Bar the top 2 this is going to be a very open season for the next top 4 spots but like Heath I’d be happy with 7th, and anything above that would be better than sex, in all honesty so would 7th you haven’t met the Mrs😜

Agree. Bolasie and Mirallas can leave, don't see them contributing in a meaningful way.  Tosun and Niasse should stay barring a very good offer for one.

There's two different ones there Bill; the first is open for public vote so liable to change and the second one is Le Tis's prediction which presumably stays the same.

As anyone got any news on the injuries to Gomes and Delph.

Check the Gomes thread for Silvas comments, I expect he’ll be back.

Delph... well, we needed a replacement for McCarthy and got one...
