Newcastle (Home) Tuesday January 21st

Recommended Posts

Needed half time, we were starting to flag.

The highest compliments I can play in that half:  Even Schneiderlin managed not to be complete and utter turd, Bernard won a header and KEAN SCORED.

Newcastle will have a false sense of security. Despite our pressure we only have one goal. They will expect to be able to get themselves back into the game because they have been woeful.

That said, our play in the final 3rd has been just as bad. If we can put some actual decent balls in then we can put these to the sword. Hopefully Newcastle will fancy getting back into the game and allow themselves to open up for us.

We owe someone a good drubbing this season. Would be great to get 4 or 5 against these as they look like they are ready to oblige us with their pants round their ankles all this first half.

Easily the best team with Bernard and Kean shining so far.

Some little warning signs at the end of the half when the ball breaks down in the middle and they come at us on the counter, which is essentially how West Ham caused us problems at the weekend.

Hopefully we can grab the second early and then the third,  fourth and fifth by the hour mark and then we can rest a few bodies!

Mina completely done my Almiron. Sidibe excellent again in covering for his centre backs.

Almiron is such a frustrating player. He's like Walcott but better at beating his man and even worse with his delivery. Imagine having to watch him every week.

I’m watching a much different game than most.

We look fast and more effective up front for one.

Newcastle look fast on the break and if we’re not careful they will cause us trouble. not even in the worst five that have to Goodison so far.

Lean and Bernard have been the best players on the pitch. Even Morgan has passed forward tonight.

Mina and Walcott the worst. Mina his usual self, but Walcott is more frustrating as he doesn’t even seem to be on the pitch.

They're breaking because we are so wasteful up front and are really weak in centre of midfield. Digne and Sid are so often in the opposing half that we invite them on.

There's no way we could get away with that against better sides. These are poor, definitely a bottom half team.

GO ON KEAN YOU BEAST - everywhere tonight

He really looks like he's had a sit down chat with Ancelotti and has been given a vote of confidence from him. Perhaps that has been what he needed, an arm around him to reassure him that he is wanted at the club and that they have faith in him.

Interesting start. Sidibe gives it away in a bad position and the  charges out of position to compound matters.

Kean wins it back, strides up the pitch like gazelle but overhits the pass wide to Bernard. Schneiderlin of all people makes the ground up and should probably score and then the ball lingers in the air and Kean should probably score.

DCL with a header he should do much better with too!

Need to take one of these!

He looks like he's 19 and probably is just having a game where things are coming off for him and he's feeding off the confidence..... it's not like the pace and skill wasn't there....

Kean again there.... brilliant flick

A lovely bit of play but Bernard just had to have scored then.

One thing about Bernard tonight that I've never seen before is that he's quite vocal; pointing at where he wants the ball to go, bossing his team mates around.  I've enjoyed seeing that.
