Exactly! Come to expect it now though.

Bailey.... the problem is that it's not expected that a keeper messes about with the ball like that.

He just literally delayed a clearance so he could get some on the arsenal player.... something missing in the lads head.

DCL did fantastic to get his head on that one just unlicky it didn't go in. Just not happening for us unfortunately, shame because we've played too well to get beat. Football can be a fucker like that.

But the top players seem to be 'lucky' and see those headers go in.

On another day we equalise and get back into that game. Leno was their man of the match and kept them in it on several occasions.

Richy and Dom simply can not be expected to score all of our goals and I really feel for Dom today.

We have been awful at scoring from midfield. Without those 2 we would be in big trouble

What a mixed bag that was.

Started well, on the front foot but once Arsenal started to play we couldn't really get close to them. We were always a threat on the counter but they had too much for us in midfield.

They were clearly the better team for the next hour or so and then they dropped deeper and deeper, Gomes and Bernard came on and we started playing through them a lot better and we created plenty of chances in that period. They almost exclusively fell to DCL and ironically he probably scored the hardest chance he had and missed the easy ones.

There must be a few questions on Carlo for this given the starting line-up. Delph came good in the end, but Sidibe and Iwobi had no reason to start. We play better with Bernard, he should start every game. Sidibe is a liability at the back and shouldn't be starting ahead of Coleman.

The biggest positive was the return of Gomes though, looked better than I was expecting in truth and I can't wait to see how he does under Ancellotti.

Don't agree. Top players miss chances all the time but keep going. You can't knock him for his goalscoring last 3 months

There is a problem with Pickford. It's like he always tries to prove himself as England's no1 and wants to show boat a bit with a short risky pass into midfield rather than play safe. He does this every week.

I agree with that to a point but the top players see far more of the 50/50 chances either going in or forcing a top save. I like DCL and he has come on really well under Carlo but the fact of the matter is that he needs to increase his conversion rate, especially in tight games, if we are to seriously challenge the top 6 or top 4.

He is still streets ahead of Moise Kean though.

I don't think there is any doubt he should have cleared it long first time. However as soon as he didn't he was in trouble and had no options as the press from Arsenal was good and from all angles. He wasn't in the right position to then try and clear it long. Siggy started free but he held his position instead of running to the ball, and was sold into a trap. That happened more than a few times in the game when we got caught in our half. This one was the closest to goal though. Once Pickford decided not to go long, Siggy was probably his only option.

Almost every other time he played it long. It's a split decision and he got it wrong. Every other player on the pitch gets those decisions wrong without consequence but it's given his position when he gets it wrong it invariably lends to a chance.

We deserved more than what we got we lost this game in midfield, Delph, Schneiderlin, and Sigurdson haven't got a tackle between them. A poor arsenal team were able to stroll through our midfield, I can't understand why that midfield was selected.

Ah damn was just replying to Aidan on this and my post got wiped! He and Richarlison are carrying our threat atm without much support from midfield. Another day DCL scores 4, the only glaring miss was the sitter from 6 yards where he probably wasn't expecting the ball and snatched it, others were half chances he made and it just didn't quite go his way. Again, all top strikers miss plenty, look at Aguero and penalties, you wouldn't argue with his finishing though.

Deluded?  He played about with the ball and instead of hoofing it clear lost it and the resultant shot hit the crossbar....   it is completely and utterly mind boggling how clearing it wasn't even the only option.

And yes, he slowed down on a clearance right at the end and raised his foot in order to catch player.

Bailey.... put the shovel down.  Their players were onto him from the get go and he gets goaded into playing chicken. Sheer and utter egomaniac.

Why the fuck he does it I don't know.  He is the last man which is why he can't even consider such slrisks that midfielders can.

Its hard to argue with those stats/points over a relatively short term, but I wonder how DCL stacks up against Aguero over a full season.

I like the lad and he is definitely improving and gets my full support - but he needs to keep improving if he wants to be the CF in a top 6 Everton team.

I have not read all this thread but having just watched it, Sid at RB is clueless, although he had no help from Mina, and nothing from Iwobe why was he on the pitch awful.

The midfield downed tools in the 2nd half, Delf, Shnids, siggy, all got to go in the summer there race is run.

AG was class and showed what we have been missing, hope he stays fit.

Whilst we did not disgrace ourselves some of our defending did, with the exception of Holgate .

Couldn’t be more disappointed to lose that but apart from a few players that were garbage (I dont think I need to name them) I’m pleased with what we showed in the game as a whole. There are so many positives and signs of progress in pretty much every aspect of our play.

I have no doubt that once Carlo gets shut of those players and can get his ideas and methods fully implemented that we’ll be right up there.

DCL has been brilliant since Carlo has been at the club and improved loads, but he just doesn't seem to have a strikers instinct for finishing in the box.  A couple of his chances today - players like Aguero would have just pounce and buried before anyone else even started to think.  Not sure that that is something that can be trained upon, though the Man Utd coaches did it with Ronaldo - I remember reading that in training they just kept passing the ball into him and a number was called as the ball came to him - the goal was split into 9 boxes like a phone key pad - and he had to finish the ball into that part of the goal.  The point is we need to get some kind of specialist coach in to try and get him more predatory - it's what he needs to go to the next level.

Weird result today. Didn't feel like a loss, on another day we'd have won that. Disappointing that it came down to a brain fart in defence and a couple of point blank saves from their keeper.

But it is a consistent problem with him. Does he just not sense the danger? We just aren't that good that he can take those chances

Liked Ancellotti's honesty post match, we lost because we defended poorly. Being Italian I expect that will improve but I still think starting and sticking with Sidibe at RB was a mistake. I'd have rather see him played RM instead of Iwobi, he gets the ball in the box and Richarlison and DCL are terrifying defences when crosses are put in, we probably don't do it enough.

I though Iwobi played well myself, good passing and movement. He tired but this was his second game back after injury and a long time out.

My post wasnt a response to the first paragraph. I have also already said he should have cleared it first time.

It's the last bit that your deluded with.

That's a massive exaggeration IMO. If the manager wants you to play out from the back its something that happens. It's a problem for all keepers not just Pickford.

He did OK but he doesn't look suited to play out wide. Quality delivery into the box is the best way to create goals, particularly with our first choice front two.

Still can't shake the feeling that the match was there for us. Only quibble I have is that Coleman would have been a better selection than Sidibe, but I understand why Carlo did it. I hope to live to see us beat Arsenal away and beat Liverpool somewhere.

We nearly got a result at Arsenal with a midfield of Siggy Morgan Delph and Iwobi. Stop for a quick second and just think about that. It's true Arsenal aren't very good but they've built some good momentum which can overcome lack of talent in stages - similar to Duncan's couple of games. Considering its importance losing that game is a big blow but we should be excited in knowing we can go to these 'bigger' clubs and compete. Not hope to nick a draw or fight for 1-0, I mean really compete by trying to outplay them. That's how you improve as a club. Love Carlo. Only knock on him is why he won't start Bernard consistently. Always changes the game for us.

For the rest of the season i'd like to see pickford coleman mina holgate digne delph gomes walcott bernard richie dcl. Bring on iwobi or sidibe for walcott depending on score. siggy or kean for bernard again depending on score. Davies for gomes to see out matches. It kills me to put delph and walcott in there but they're the best options right now for what we're trying to do. Replace them in the summer and we're a really dangerous team.

Is that 4 chances for DCL this half?

He should have had a hat trick. Don’t blame him much for the header, but think he should have done more to get onto the end of Richarlisons two balls.

Krusty the clown threw himself into the blocks and DCL should have been doing the same.

I know we created a few chances at the end but that was when Arsenal took their foot off the gas. For the best part of 60 ish minutes they controlled the game and we did sod all.

I like Ceballos but they he is only just coming back from injury and then it's Xhaka and Ozil who stopped running not long after their 3rd goal.

The subs definitely improved us and we showed a good attitude to try and get back in it but Arsenal were very average themselves. We need to be the ones controlling the majority of the game, taking our chances and then playing to see it out.

He's taken enough chances these past 10 games or so. The players around him should be taking more responsibility in front of goal.

It would be nice to see more goals from others rather than Richarlison and him, but that doesn’t change the fact that as Shukes said he should have scored at least another two.

Don’t mean it as a knock mate. I love the guy. But I try to be fair and criticise when due, and praise when due.

But I agree, his form recently allows him the odd off day.
