just been on the official site and david moyes confirms fernandes has signed, but then it said site is temporaraly unavaliable when i clicked link, so it obviously updating, so thats 1 bit off good news we all needed

here it is confirmed at last

Everton have completed the loan signing of Manuel Fernandes from Benfica - and manager David Moyes is delighted.

The 20-year-old Portugal international has joined on an initial six-month loan deal.

Moyes told evertonfc.com: "We are pleased to add him to the squad and we look forward to seeing him in action in the months ahead."

Negotiations for the combative midfielder were on-going for the last week, with the player passing his medical at Bellefield more than seven days ago.

Fernandes spent the first six months of the season on loan at Portsmouth.

He made 12 appearances for the south-coast side before returning to Benfica last month.

Fernandes is a product of Benfica's youth system, and has represented Portugal at every level from under 15 upwards.

He gained his first full international cap in 2005, and scored on his second appearance for Phil Scolari's men.

He missed out on the 2006 World Cup squad but joined Pompey on loan in the summer, netting his first goal in English football in a Carling Cup game against Mansfield.

We have 14 spare here... it'd make sense.. he's defensive and 14 is 1+4 = 5 ;)

:blink::lol:

Finally but i wouldnt advise getting him even though e's only on loan mate. if he was permanent id get im on the back like but i dont think we got a clause in the contract saying we have first option on him on anythin. ur choice like

Good news, But from all accounts unlikley to sign permenant in the summer.

He's one of those mad deals where a club own half of him and that chap (with the daft name) who also has Masscarano and Teves as his players owns the other half. I guess that why all the paper work took so long.

Double edged sword - want the player to be a hit at Goodison, but if he is too big a hit you could easliy see a permenant deal done with a 'bigger' club next summer.

All very strange - coming on loan whilst signing an extended deal at Benfica, after also being out on loan at Portsmouth. Football is getting stranger by the month!! Somebody wants to make some money on him.

But hey, if he plays well enough and this loan deal help get us a UEFA spot, and bugger all else - then a good bit of business.

Pompey didn't do to bad when on loan with them, did they..

Simon Davies did bugger all in an Everton shirt - so Davies out, and £3M in the bank and Fernandes in until the summer at least. If that is all we do in this transfer window, I would guess we are better off than we where on 31st Decmber

Saw the other day that we are due another £2m from UTD when Rooney signs his new contract so maybe take it out of that.

I like Wes Brown and would like to see him here but really can't see anyone else joining.

DM hasnt said no one else will be signing but also hasn't said that he is still trying to sort things out.

However rumur going around that Murphey might be joining and he is not in the Spurs squad.

"Everton have completed the signing of Portugal midfielder Manuel Fernandes from Benfica after altering the wording on the loan agreement which will secure the player until the end of the season."

anyone got any idea what this "altering the wording" is all about?
