Team For The New Season

Recommended Posts

howard

jagielka right back

yobo

lescott

neville left back

arteta right

silva

cahill

vdm left if fit

beattie

johnson

this is if silva is any good

Two goals for Beattie in the opening couple of games could be the making of him

at Everton.I think an"in form"Beattie and AJ are good enough to hold at bay the young

guns of Vaughan and Anichebe......but they will make a break through this season.

VDM?......Even if fit, can't really see it working for him.

Hibbert!.....Disaster last season. At his best too good to leave out.Could well improve as he gets older.

Think we need more steel in midfield....Carsley,could well be that man.

Don't quite agree with this, Vaughan is too hot a prospect to leave on the bench.

lol agree with this one, only playing cause no one will buy him...

right now the only change would be Jags coming in for either Hibbo or Stubbs I think, midfield will be the same, Carsley will keep his place and rightly so

Only a very much improved Beattie will be able to keep Vaughan out. It's in Beatties

hands now!Moyes will play him......if he scores he'll stay in,if not we have options.

Shame about VDM!.....But you could say that about any of them that don't make it.

Probably get the odd game, might even surprise us.....just doubt it!

As for Silva, from what I've heard he's got a chance....and we probably need him to

take it!

against preston silva was pretty average, against a lower league team, as was beattie and anichebe.

i'll be disappointed if any of that 3 start against wigan

He was almost an ever present in last years very good season, doing the donkey work

He also did it when we were fourth as well

Thing is we have a better quality player to do that donkey work now.......

Like Who? I think Carsley will be, as he was last season, one of the first names on the team sheet

Would have to agree with you Zed , Carsley has been imense for us in 2 of the last 3 seasons and was sorely missed in the season in between when he was out injured almost all seaon !! And believe me you will never meet a more dedicated pro , i live in the same village as lee Carsley near Coventry and often see him jogging in the evening no doubt after he's trained during the day! ..... he may be getting on a bit now but for me he would have to start the season , if he struggles then change it as the season goes on !!

As for the team it looks good it will be nice to see how affective Arteta and Pienaar can be switching flanks and keeping the opposition full backs guessing !

As i've said on a previous topic i would prefer a 4-4-2 but i admit it is unlikely so playin Timmy behind AJ has got to be the way forward , i think i would rather see someone else along side Carsley instead of Neville though !! (please get Manny back Mr Moyes)

i honestly think that going it to the first game of the season against an average wigan side that we are talkin about playin 5 in midfield is a joke!

we should be positive they should be having to come to are place thinking of needing to play the 5 in midfield to stop are men.

i think with neville back in the middle with a fully fit cahill. with also AJ's willingness to run and check back we should be able to cover for the extra man when we need it in the midfield.

plus with pienaar and arteta they are both able to play central aswell which means we can cover and hit on the break. with pace and power. and once up there you can see neville sitting and letting the other 3 men go and join in.

im with zed 100%. Cars is a valuable member of our team, one of our most consistent performers!

and looks like we got another member with a 451 in negative attitude!

i dont understand how anyone can see victor being a bigger attacking threat than cahill.

That 4-5-1 formation gets the best out of everyone, Cahill is awsome in that role, it can easily be changed to 4-4-2, keeping Cahill on, he then just trys to be selective in going forward, its a formation that Chelsea use effectively and also man used it last season a lot, although they have a lot better attacking players

yeh, i don't mind 4-5-1 as long as we use it to our advantage both attacking and defensively...because long balls towards AJ won't work. we need to take advantage of the extra man in midfield (assuming we're playing against a 4-4-2) and play it around a bit more crisply than we have. hopefully with the new additions and future addition will add that extra bit of ability that the midfield desperately lacks,as only arteta is capable of keeping a ball.

I couldnt watch another game with Neville + Carsley in the team, we need to move on if were going to use a defensive midfielder which I can understand we need to pick one of them.

Haha Pienaar hasnt got a work permit yet and he is in everyones team, hope he does tho...

Can't believe no-one's even mentioned (as far as I can see) McFadden, who's goal against Charlton got us into the position we're in. If he hadn't scored that winner we'd be even more miserable bastards than we already are contemplating a season of domestic mediocrity and struggling (even more than we are) to attract any new players. Also Ossie, who I know people don't rate but for me was a consistent performer (player of the year voting backs that up) and still improving.

What about a bit of loyalty to the players who got us where we're at?

I understand what your saying but i think we should always play are best possible starting 11. And IMO Ossie and Mcfadden dont fit into my "best starting 11"

This would be my first choice with the team we have now, apart from Pienaar we are waiting on a permit.

I suspect that Yobo will be replaced by Jagielka when Yobo goes off to compete for the African nations, but I fully expect Jags to be knocking on the door all season.

If we get this Vogel character, he may replace Carsley- or atleast offer competition.

Vaugan would be my choice striker, but he is obviously injured- so McFadden, Anichebe and Beattie will be fighting for his place.

Swap Neville and Jags with eachother, and Arteta and Pienaar alternating and that would be my team until Vaughan came back.

Isn't this the whole point behind this thread, that we now have a little more flexibilty with with the signing of Jags. We can now afford to play Pip and Jags in more or less any position we see fit, and we know that they can do it, got to be a plus in my book.

Still got a tiny squad ain't we Mike, offering Cars and £4m for Baines, I thought the aim of the game was to increase our squad. Mark reminds us often enough.

To play Bremen my team would be :

---------------------Howard------------------------

--Hibbert------Yobo-------Jagielka------Lescott--

---------------------Carsley-----------------------

--Arteta-----Da Silva-------Cahill------Pienaar--

---------------------Johnson-----------------------

Or This if we want 4 4 2

---------------------Howard---------------------

Jagielka-----Yobo-----------Lescott----Valente

Arteta------Da Silva-------Cahill-------Pienaar

------------Johnson---------Anichebe----------

We need a leftback so untill we get one id play Lescott where he's proved he can play class.

Da Silva deserves a chance the way he's done so far.

Carsley has been immense the last 5 years and should keep his place in 4-5-1

Pienaar will be like a fernandes on the wing imo but less class of course.

oh i agree completely mac.. but you have to bear in mind his age and the fact he's a squad player. we'd be gettign a young fullback that would go straight into our team, we have the versatility to cover carsleys loss, and if we were to sign vogel wed have covered without any loss. should we not sign vogel, as i have said we have a squad to manage until we can find another, perhaps younger, alternative to add to the squad. if carsley stays he'll only probably move on or retire in a year or so, so from our point of view with our finances he's a good make weight...IMO ... altho i would like to see vogel, just to be sure

All of this reminds me of playing FIFA 07 lol

Here's my preferred team with all of the signings so far

(Don't be so quick to jump down my throat.

I'm fifteen and still learning!)

------------------Howard------------------

--Hibbert---Yobo---Jagielka*---Lescott---

----------------Neville*---------------------

----Pienaar-----------------Arteta--------

----------------Cahill----------------------

------Vaughan**--------Johnson----------

REMEMBER this is made up of the current squad as of whatever day it is which means I'm not taking into account any of the possible signings.

*These two could be interchanged according to what's available. I also think that either of these players could easily play in any of the defensive positions as well as CDM.

**Vaughan would definitely be my first choice but seeing as he's injured, I'd expect Anichebe, McFadden, Beattie and POSSIBLY Smith to fight for this spot until Vaughan returns

excellent point about da silva

i havent seen any of the friendly games but understand he is playing well

to be honest, the holding midfield position is one of our strongest areas.

getting rid of carsley to sign baines would be a good bit of business imo

if/when we sign vogel, we will have him, da silva, jags and pip available for the holding role

howard

jags/pip

yobo

lescott

baines

pienarr

cahill

vogel

arteta

beats/vaughan

aj

with hibbo, avdm,da silva, mcfadders, stubbs, nuno and victor in reserve (hopefully some of the kids like paddy boyle and lukas j will step up in carling cup games)...i think we have the makings of a very good squad. yes short of numbers, but high on quality and very flexible

Howard

Neville©

Yobo

Lescott

Valente (Hopefully Baines would not hold my breath though!)

Arteta

Jagielka

Cahill

ANother (Despeartely need new wide midfielder!!)

Vaughan (Anichebe until fit)

Johnson

Bench

Ruddy

Stubbs

Osman

Anichebe

Mcfadden

I hope for one or two more signings to fit in there though.

Tough one (especially as even rubbish at PC management games!)..

I would like to see a Pienaar/V.D.Meyde get on this season tho i quite fancy the following teams..

Home > 4-4-2

-------

------------------Howard-------------------------

--Jag's----Yobo----Lescott---Valente/Baines--

-------------Neville/Carsley------------------

--Arteta--------Cahill-------Pienaar--------

-------Beattie/Smith---Johnson-----------

Away v Top 4 or 5(?) > 4-5-1

------

------------------Howard---------------------------

--Jag's----Yobo----Lescott-----Valente/Baines--

-----------------Neville/Carsley-------------------

--Pienaar-------Arteta (free role)--V.D.Meyde--

--------------------Cahill--------------------------

------------------Johnson--------------------------

I feel it would be interesting to see Arteta given a free role in the center of a 4-5-1 .. would be class to see him freely switching left/right/middle probing the opposition defences wherever the lad feels would damage them.. he's usually switched around left/right flanks anyway but with complete freedom from the middle of the park would be good to see him terrorise defenses from all over.

With the speed/quality of Johnson and the standard of our midfileders i do think (currently) 4-5-1 is our strongest.. althouhg i do understand the frustrations in seeing that formation at home results are more important.. and anyways.. look at that midfield.. looks pure class entertainment to me.. (with the steel/heart to overcome any team)

Wouldn't give a centre mid a free role, if he goes walk about it'l leave us short in the middle of the park.

Out of the above formation cahills poisition is the one for a free role.

I do think we'l start with that sort of 4-1-3-1-1 formation unless we get smith, with cahill starting jus off AJ like last year.

The way people have differant thoughts on where Jags + Neville will play, im sure Jagielka will be the rightback and Neville the midfielder if he plays. I just hope moyes will see sense and have just Neville or Carsley not the both of em, it proved my point against salt lake wen they both played there, we were fucking terrible.

The problem is I actualy think it could be that as I don't think that we will be signing anyone unless its maybe a couple of loan or oldish players on transfer deadline day by which point if have a bad start the damage by then could already be done
