I’d say we have absolutely zero idea if he’s going to be a first teaser at this point. He’s not made his debut for us, he’s not played any first team football anywhere, so he shouldn’t even be coming into our thinking in regards to bringing someone in now. He needs a loan move and then we go from there with him.3 points -

It seemed to me that when they found James in a bit of space he made things happen. It didn’t always come off. But it’s pretty clear, give him the ball and we create chances. We need him on the pitch and we need to give him the ball, let him do the rest.3 points -

Problem with all of these exciting players from the continent is that January is not the market to buy them in unless they’re nearing the end of their contract or you can get someone out of favour (usually loan to buy) or with a release clause. Yes, the January market can help transform a season - see Fernandes to Man U for instance but it’s not a market many teams invest as much in and many teams will charge a January premium with it being mid-season. Josh King could be a very smart, low risk, short-term fix. No, he’s nobody’s first choice but his versatility and proven ability to do well in2 points -
It’s when you see him look up and he doesn’t have any runners that it’s so frustrating. I’m sure it is frustrating for him too. At the start of the season he had Richarlison, Digne, Coleman and Doucoure all making runs for him. We need this again. But maybe with our new found ability to not concede three goals every game.2 points

The Bundesliga has been a fantastic loan pool for young players, hypothetically speaking it would be great if we could send Ellis over there so that he could have competition against some strong teams (Bayern, BVB and Leipzig) then it would work very much in his favour. The lower league pyramid is always a shout, but I think going to a new country can really improve the person, not just the player (just look at Sancho).1 point

I didn’t say Doucoure was the only reason we got a grip in midfield but he was a damn sight more effective than either Davies or Gomes combined Davies was definitely the worse of the two but Gomes didn’t exactly cover himself in glory either. I’ve come to expect that level of performance from Davie but suppose I was more disappointed in Gomes given the way he started the game and his last 2 substitute cameos 6 people picked him as MotM so it’s all about opinions but I just felt he went missing after the first 15 minutes1 point -

Happy with that draw, *should* be a winnable game but they are flying after sacking Pulis (three wins from three). It won't be a walk in the park, but honestly if we can't beat Championship clubs at home we might aswell throw the towel in now and take up tennis. The 5th Round will see us up against Mourinho, a tough test (should he navigate Wycombe of course).1 point -

I would be happy enough to see Josh King added to the squad. If at the right wages. can play left, right and central, has pace, can dribble, makes space, he scores, big and strong, proven in Prem. A play who could come of the bench and actually offer something in a game and works well when playing counter attacking football. You wouldn't build a team around him, or have him as the main man or anything like that, but as back up to injuries to our front players and as a versatile player on the bench, I would have him. not sure he would want to be a bench warmer though, and he may1 point -

But it’d be good to improve the squad to mean that 442 is also an option, no? Meaning your second striker is actual competition and gives tactical possibilities rather than a backup striker who’s a filler just in case, and couldn’t do a good enough job if DCL had a long term injury. That’s how you improve the squad. It’s definitely not by saying we can’t play that way because of 1 player doesn’t fit it. This would be a backward step for me. As LB rightly says, in the Moyes era he’d have been a great signing. Although I hope @Zoo 2.0is on the windup with Lassina, the guy didn’t get a cha1 point

He was class in Italy before West Ham signed him but has been a huge waste of money based on what he’s done there. There’s clearly a talented player in there - on-loan, it could prove a stroke of genius but it could also prove that he’s not suited to English football.1 point

Yeah. Didn’t have a great game but tried and only needed 2 opportunities to set up what should’ve been 2 goals. Rough game for him and just coming back from injury, could’ve been better but still changed the game.1 point

I don't see anything in James as a person to suggest he's anything other than someone who just wants to play football. Took a pay cut, players love him, professional demeanor. Positive person who like Ancellotti embraces new starts.1 point

Trump in charge (ex race for the US presidency thread)

The Blue Lives Matter flag very quickly replaced the Confederate Flag at NASCAR races once the latter was banned this past summer. The Blue Lives Matter flag is also a callously merchandized response to a cry for help. It would not exist if people didn't first say to law enforcement, "please stop shooting us, amongst (many) other things..." To object to what Colin Kaepernick was kneeling for is to condone the conditions that inspired the gesture in the first place. Often times, most times - when people want politics kept out of sports it really just means they're personally uncomfort1 point -

Most Republicans genuinely believe that they are the Unionist of Abraham Lincoln, and are following the path that their forefathers followed of democracy and freedom for all and a United USA, they would vote for the Republican Party no matter who the leader was because they believe in the values of the party foremost and are somewhat blinkered to everything else going on around them. Trump ran for President as the Republican nominee he isn’t a Republican in the sense of what it is meant to be as a Republican, he ran a campaign that swelled the feeling of anti anyone who wasn’t American, he1 point

But even this is a myopic view. It paints the depravity of Pre Civil War America with a regional brush - a national brush, even. It's a much larger problem, but to your specific point, it wasn't that they never thought they lost the war, it was that they weren't ever made to suffer the consequences typically befitting the loser of a war. Southern whites picked up the pieces, largely left to their own devices. Union folks had cousins on either side. All that changed was the lifting of a travel ban once the Confederacy fell. I think and hope this will be the watershed moment in US Policing. The differences between how Police in the US risk assessed, planned for and policed the Black Lives Matter protests and the Trump rally, demonstration and subsequent rioting / insurrection is startling. It highlights the systemic racism in the system. There will be numerous inquiries and I am heartened to hear President Elect Biden highlight the differences in policing today. The result of these enquiries will I hope lead to seismic changes in Policing in the US. There are enough progressive fo1 point -

This is racism. Multi-tiered and multi-faceted racism. Physically violent, institutional and completely systemic. From the lack of consequences given to those inciting this behavior, to the aiding and abetting of the insurgents by law enforcement, to the disbelief that this is something that can happen in this day and age. What happened at the capital yesterday is the most American thing I've ever witnessed in my life. The policing plan was to allow them to do what they wanted because many of those police agree with those they helped. They are the same people. Those involve1 point -
