  1. Sorry Pete but you don’t half talk some bollocks at times. I seriously doubt you would find a single Newcastle fan that would agree with you about Steve Bruce. The Geordies were all dreaming of Rafa coming back if the take over ever happened Likewise I sincerely doubt you would find any Kopites that agree with you He was universally loved by both sets of fans but somehow you think you know better Sometimes I honestly wonder whether you actually believe any of the crap you spout or whether you are just posting it for effect because you want to appear controversial

  2. 😂😂😂😂 Pete “ Some of us are more forward thinking than others” Also Pete “ Benitez is no better than Allardyce” 😂😂😂😂😂 You come out with some whoppers Pete but this really is comedy gold , does it not occur to you that such a forwarding thinking visionary holding such a dinosaur as Allardyce in such high regard is just a little contradictory ?

    Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

I hope he's out for a lot less time than the three weeks going round because while Richarlison may fancy himself as a striker, he's anything but. Well, certainly not a main striker, he's more of a supporting act.

Yep, creature of habit me. So many friends here, life has been really stressful in the last year (anniversary of my big op tomorrow) but as soon as I got here all tension disappeared. Still the empty chair to deal with but I'm okay, my brother flying in tomorrow for a week so going to be great.

shame that shot on the 6yard line didn't creep in. I am desperate for 'other' players to be chipping in with a goal here and there. This has been one of the things that has been letting us down this past few years. A goal just gives a player that little more confidence to have a bit more of dig at goal. You never shoot - you will never score. I definitely think he is shooting a little more - so really want one to come off for him.

While I've said many times that I was underwhelmed with Allan last season, I've been seriously impressed with him this season so far. He's like a different player to be honest and is the player I was expecting. Particularly enjoyed watching him having a go at Mina after we'd conceded a chance at 3-1. I don't even know if Mina was at fault for the chance but I loved how in the zone and intense he was.

You would think that we have an elite squad of players who no matter what formation or tactics you use - they will get the result. Couldn't be more wrong. Last season we lose that game. Benitez studies the game intently, and I mean intently. He is in a zone, passionate but totally immersed in what is going on. You can see with the players - they are being coached, clear instructions, fitness. Got ourselves a manager here.

  9. I tend to find players who run their backsides off for 90 minutes helping the team out, showing leadership etc as being solid players .... Not highlights players. A great signing.

  10. Lost my voice celebrating Doucoure's offside goal, the ground was electric when Gray put us 3-1 up. Boss nights these when everything comes together under the lights. I actually backed the five at the back considering that they were always going to play with two strong target men, but fair play for swapping it around and putting an extra man in midfield, no suprise that once we did that we started to dominate the game - no service for their front two and an extra set of feet to set our our wingers and Richarlison free. My biggest complaint at HT was that we were not moving the ball fast enough, but second half we did just that. Townsend was fucking outstanding, best goal I've seen at Goodison for a long while and very nearly got a second (fantastic, top drawer save from Pope to deny him). Gray just gets better and better each week, think he's going to be the signing of the summer considering we paid about £4.80 for him. Viva Benitez.

Let's see how we perform against mid-table teams and above. We're starting the season with a very easy schedule against teams we really should beat (Southampton, Leeds, Brighton, Burnley, Villa, Norwich). I'm reserving judgment on the manager for now. Sure, things are looking bright so far, but so they should be. We were in about the same spot last season after having played a tougher set of teams, so it's too early to know where things really stand.

Benetiz was arguably more contentious than Allardyce. But Rafa won the fans over with his hard work, vision for the team and ability. Not to mention his efforts to break down any barriers. Allardyce never took the time or effort to win over fans, never had a vision for the team that he shared with the fans. Basically Allardyce was just a knob who expected everyone to fall at his feet.

Went for Allan. He seems to have been overlooked a lot tonight, but again he was getting his toe into everything. He didn’t give them any space, and who was the man getting the lads going after they scored. Never stopped talking or getting stuck in. A little Engine in there!

It always amazes me that most fans never see or understand that what you do when you don’t have the ball is equally as important as when you do have the ball, he could have a bad game in possession of the ball, but have a fantastic game off the ball yet he won’t be credited for that, today he had both but he will nearly always give you the latter.

It felt like that pass was the first completion of the night! What a pass though. You can never argue with the work he does off the ball, he is everywhere, but today was one of those games where the connection between his brain and feet just wasn't there for most of the game. He never let his head drop and kept trying and it paid off.

  19. I’ll echo everything said so far, and add that Burnley were kicking seven shades out of us until we scored. The old lady rocked in the second half, me and my lad have lost our voices, small price to pay for a great night.

Good job your not letting your opinion get in the way of reality. Anyone remember the Watford home game under gravy tits, JJK was the first to have an attempt on goal on about 43 mins, oh how I wish we were still seeing that, rather than how we are this season, pace, shots on goal, and goals.

I’ve had a lot to say about James and how I feel in certain situations he will be an asset. However in no way should we ever be considered weaker for not having Gylfi and James out there together. Genuinely believe a majority of our issues last year was down to that combination on the pitch together.

Man of the Match v Burnley

Keane would have kept them all on. He drops to the same line as Keane as the ball is played in. All 3 of our defenders are naive in that moment. Godfrey - initially wins the header which is good but rushes out when Digne was going to the ball. Keane - too deep, looks over his shoulder and sees 4 burnley players and just Mina, doesn’t react to get into any sort of position at all. Mina - Drops a yard deeper to get in line with Keane, doesn’t get his head to it and tries to buy a foul but just looks awkward.

Interesting stat on Townsend. Some managers just seem to work well with certain player and visa versa. Yesterdays goal was definitely coming. He will not keep these ratio's up, but it is encouraging that he is a good fit for Benitez systems. His crossing is consistently good quality and with decent pace, the stat from last season that he was the premier leagues most accurate crosser is proof of his consistency and quality. Townsend as a signing will at least give us breathing room for a couple of seasons while we get out finances in order.

Fucking hell, Pete. Pretty much every manager in the world gives 10-15 mins after the restart to see if the team talk worked. It didn't, we conceded, he changed things pretty much immediately, we scored 3 in 5 mins (bar the obvious offside). He saw his talk hadn't work and was a little slow in changing that's your complaint? At least he changed. The corrupt fucker you idolise as manager wouldn't have done a thing and just bemoaned the result.

  35. To be fair, they outplayed us for 25 minutes not 60. We finished the first half better and started well the second half… and typical Everton we start playing better, then they scored. We responded with a corner straight away, and you could literally hear Allan shouting and getting them going.

  37. Tactically we got it all wrong in the first half. I hate three at the back so as soon as I saw that my heart sank and what we went on to display did nothing to dispel that feeling. Please stop trying it. We played so deep and let Burnley control the game, and then when we did manage to have the ball we played unbelievably slowly. We were launching the ball up the field for Richarlison to try and win the aerial balls against their grocks. That's just madness. Pickford was hitting the ball long and out wide into two of our smallest players in Coleman and Digne. That was clearly part of the game plan because he was practicing it in the warm-up before the game. The midfield may as well not have been there - Gray had a couple of moments but that was about it. Richarlison tried but he wasn't getting much out of their defenders or anything in the way of support from his teammates. Then we come out in the second half and before we know it we're one behind. I feared the worst at that point because we hadn't looked like we had anything in us to be honest. Then we absolutely exploded for 15 minutes and that was all she fucking wrote for this game. For that period of time Burnley did not know what had hit them. I barely knew what had hit them to be honest! We just went bang, bang, bang. We could have had a couple more as well but after that we just saw the game out in a professional manner.

    Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

I think that is a bit harsh on Richy. Our initial system isolated him badly and as soon as he had support he went on to play well as a central striker. I imagine he was pissed off being subbed because he had toiled for 60 minutes, finally gets some help and then gets hooked. I would give him another 90 minutes in that position with the support he had in the second half to see how he gets on. Afterall, Dom has been largely on the periphery himself in those first games.

definitely, he was unable to fill DCL shoes and think once he is up to speed, Rondon would be a better focal point of the attack if DCL is out, with Richy back in his more normal role.

No, I didn't enjoy the first half. But Rafa realized his mistake, made some tactical changes at the half (Townsend said as much in his post-game interview), made a sub to bring on Gomes, and the rest is history. I'm sorry, but how are there people who are going to bitch and whine about someone realizing they've made a mistake, rectifying said mistake, and then succeeding. I don't use this phrase often, and I hope I don't offend anyone, but Pete.... You're just a Grumpy Gus.

    James Rodríguez

"We know his strengths," Benitez said. "He's a player with a really good left foot. We know the weaknesses that he has too. He has to show his strengths on the pitch and at the same time improve his weaknesses. "I don't expect him to change his style, but we need to find a balance between what he can give to the team and what we are expecting from him.” Perfectly put. Rafa is like a teacher trying to get a response from a lazy but talented pupil. The previous teacher allowed him to stare out the window as long as he did a few paragraphs of quality.... This teacher wants a full lessons worth. Its not unreasonable to say that James Rodriguez is one of the best passers of a football in the world. Certainly the best passer of a slide rule ball in the game imo. So that being said, why haven't top teams come in for him? Is it that Rafa isn't on his own in thinking that for all his potential game changing quality - it's not enough to sacrifice a balanced team for? I'd say so.
