🤞this is the start of seeing the Dom we know.

His limitation (aside from health) is that he doesn’t create his own shot. He’s been poor 1 v 1 vs a defender his whole career and I’m not sure I can recall him scoring from more than about 12-15 yards out. It’s just not what he is good at and it’s why he’s not Harry Kane. Fox in the box, pretty good hold up play, good in the air but it’s what stops him from being a truly top end player.

I don’t mean any of that to run him down. He’s having a good game and is an effective player that I’m glad to have in the team. He’s just always likely to be a bit limited in his game.

It’s not hate. It’s seeing him being average but some seem to think that average makes him great. McNeil out performed him last season. He got into our team under Lampard because we had few other options and he improved, no doubt, but he’s not exactly been winning games for us. He’s not been very good out wide, we don’t play a style that suits him being in the middle. Not to mention that he gives the ball away too often in the middle.
He’s been ok, nothing more than ok, for two years (but ok stood out because all of our creatives players have left) but before that he was absolutely shite. I don’t think anyone would disagree with that.

    We are relegated without him

I don't think Iwobi is as bad as people make out, but I wouldn't be gutted with him leaving. If it's Iwobi out and for example Gnonto in, I'd be happy.

He was probably our best player last year. It was always interesting to me when our players were asked about our most skilled guy in training. He was mentioned often. He was played out of position for a while when he came here. Did some good things when played through the middle. Never got to the price we paid maybe but it shouldn’t surprise anyone if he is missed.

What’s more concerning for me isn’t that he’s leaving, it’s that he’s going to a team that plays a decent brand of football that is full of very average players with a manager who’s no mug. So what perplexes me is how a team like Brentford see him as an option yet we can’t wait to get rid. I have a vision we are going to be a long ball team when I want to be a ball on the ground team.

Not sure we have the players to be a possession oriented, ball on the ground team at this point. DCL needs crosses, Beto needs crosses seemingly.

Wasn't aiming anything I said at you 🤷‍♂️ Otherwise I'd quote you 😉.

I've seen the word 'Lukaku' pop up a few times. I never liked his attitude or what he was about. As proven as the years have gone by.

The lesser player comment is just plainly missing the point.

Huh? This is a thread on Beto. I was under the impression anyone could respond to a comment.

You made the point that you think his attitude etc.. puts him miles above Lukaku. I’m making the point that whatever their stories or personalities, we are in a position where we need results and Rom produced those. I don’t personally care about finishing 19th with some nice guys on the squad as opposed to 14th with less popular players.

I don't want him to be a 'Lukaku'.

    Lukaku was an arsehole.

This guy was working in Burger King(?) a few years ago. His attitude and determination already puts him miles above Lukaku.

He won't be as polished as the top end strikers (let's be honest, we wouldn't have him if he was!) but he has more than enough to improve us.

Brilliant start tonight against a team non of our other players could make a dent in.

I mean Lukaku was the best striker we have had in at least a decade by a mile..If not world class then just below that level and a nightmare for defenses.  I’m not sure I’d take a lesser player who I thought had a better story if it meant relegation.

He’s a bit cumbersome but his physicality is going to cause no end of problems for the opposition.

He must start against Sheff U.

If he can be 75% of Lukaku he’s gonna help us a lot. He’s physical and fast with a head of steam. Coupled with being a threat in the air he will, at the least, take a lot of defensive attention when he’s out there.

Love Dom but he’s just not a threat 1 v 1 with a defender. Beto will be.

  8. It’s not so much that he scored and had other quality chances…it’s the nature of that goal and those chances. That physicality is gonna be a problem for defenders. I get it’s Doncaster etc..but the ability to bully his way into a chance and then finish decisively is exciting and obviously reminiscent of Rom. Optimistic

He’s got to be a starter for Saturday unless he doesn’t meet Dyche’s fitness requirements, not bothered if he doesn’t play midweek. Really looking forward to seeing him kick start our season.

Seems like a big ask for a player who will have barely trained with his teammates and has no experience in this league to walk right in and start. We’d be putting him in a position to fail right out of the gate. We all want help up top but that would be asking a lot, too much in my opinion.

On a more serious note, I really hope he's a bit of a late bloomer.  His record is a bit underwhelming.  Really just two half decent seasons in Italy.  I suppose 1 in 3 in Italy isn't bad, but be hard to expect him to come in an better than in the premier league.

As always it’s important to look at the minutes rather than just appearances. He’s closer to 1 in 2 than 1 in 3. Decent over there. 1 in 3 for us would be great.

    4 yrs I think

Yea so that’s what this is really about. They want him there to try and help promotion but if he sat out all season they would likely be able to sell him for about the same next summer given his age. They don’t have a real incentive, especially late in the window. His only recourse if he wants to get a move is to annoy their management and their fanbase enough where he’s just not going to take the field for them and potentially risk a future transfer fee

You still haven't  read the post right Dunlop, I said a decent striker.  This fella scored 5 goals last season.  I've always said You get what you pay for in this life and if we offer shite money we will end up with shite players.

Context matters. He had about 22 games worth of time in a poor team 5 goals 3 assists. In about 4 games worth of time in Cups he had another 5 goals. Overall he’s about a 1 in 3.5 guy in the premier league in terms of goals per 90. I would say that’s decent. Also provides some assists. Given our restraints he’s probably an affordable upgrade to Maupay.

No-one’s getting excited about this and on the face of it, we’re well covered in centre-mid but this is the kind of back-up that we’ve been crying out for for years. He’s reliable, fits the system, bags of energy, tenacious and a bit of quality. Much better option than Gomes and we can’t go through the season with just Gueye, Doucoure, Onana and Garner. Would be a positive squad addition at the right price (under £10m) in my opinion.

    And Iwobi

I have some mind blowing information here guys. Fresh off the press!!

Its possible to pursue more than one player at a time. 🤯

Just because we’re reading in the press about the Gnonto move it doesn’t mean we aren’t trying for various other players, like a striker.
The reason it seems like all we are doing is going after Gnonto is because his people and our people are feeding it to the press to put pressure on Leeds.

If this is news to absolutely anyone then you haven’t been following football long enough.

Yea this same thing baffles me. Every window we get the same comments about how business is conducted as if it’s the first time anyone has ever been through a transfer period.

Getting a Gnonto or similar would be the cherry on top but I think we’ve done quite well this window given our restraints. I reserve the right to change my mind if we lose Onana or something but absent that, I’m encouraged.

Think back a couple of days ago to when it was reported that Harrison was fucking us off for Villa... there was absolutely no truth to it whatsoever. Do some of you learn from that? Nope, here you go again turning into fannies flapping about a whisper that another club are in for him despite there being nothing to suggest it's even true.

I like a bit of fanny but please stop, it's really fucking boring.

Groundhog’s Day every window for us. For those Bill Murray fans out there
