I think today was the first clear example of cautious Benitez. It could have cost us.
Massive credit for the changes he made though, they were exactly what we needed... just 60 minutes sooner.

You could tell he was loving going up against their carthorse strikers. A lot of defenders shrink from it but I think he genuinely enjoyed it.

He can't even get into the Rangers team. Crazy fee for an untried right back.

Most of what I'm reading in this thread is nonsense, to be honest. What matters is that we have a world-class player in our squad, and any manager unwilling to include him in his plans is an idiot.

James hasn’t been perfect… but if we going to expect him to say “we” and “us” then he has rights to expect our management to say “James is our player and he isn’t going anywhere”

Because Carlo brought him here on the back of this “project” he was heavily invested in and then fucked off… I mean if I took a job and was promised all these developments in the pipeline and then after 12 months the person who brought me there jumped I would be questioning the direction too… He said in the summer he was happy to stay, he said he didn’t think he would go to Madrid - if they wanted him would he have gone? - Yes, along with every other member of our squad. 
He hasn’t been perfect, some of what he has said/done has been naive and that’s to put it nicely - but I really don’t think he warrants a lot of the criticism that’s come him way and think partially it’s due to how Carlo fucked us over and people see James as an extension of Carlo.

Again I see nothing wrong what he has said. He has simply said I’m ready for selection if they want me.
For me it’s equal parts - management seems to have shown less desire for him to be here than he has shown to be here. 
I don’t really care what he says just as long as when he is on the pitch we have the James that can pick apart teams.

The final leg of the flight was supposed to take four hours. After the first engine had trouble, the pilot announced you'd now take six hours. Despite having to work on my birthday today, it's shaping up to be a solid birthday weekend. Volleyball later today with friends, Twins game tomorrow, seeing my roommate in her show Saturday (live theater! 😱) and time with the fam on Sunday.

I'm a big Davies fan but even I wouldn't say he's got boundless energy. As square pegs go he's an option but depends more on the opposition. If tactically you want the right back to be bombing down and overlapping Godfrey would be the better option.
