MikeO
The result today ends any hope of the Uefa cup...no question. Does anyone know who has actually registered for the Intertoto? Bolton and Man city talked about it but I've only seen confirmation that Middlesbro and us are actually in it. Whether or not you think it's a good idea it'd be interesting to know who we need to finish above..

EFC fan in oz
Still not sure about us entering inter toto cup as just means another pre season like the one this year and that wasn't exactly beneficial to the players. I thought it was only us, blackburn and boro who entered not sure about newcastle or Bolton

Then we still get in the Intertoto!!!

RuffRob
Umm, think our outside chance of UEFA cup football when out of the window against Sunderland. I think the players will also know this. Lets hope they don't just go through the motions between now and the end of the season. All the teams above us seem to have a game in hand and a few more points on the board. It was always going t be difficult to salvage anything from this season considering the start we made. At least we not in a relegation dog fight. Ian
correct rob it will be nice to see the lads going for it in the home straight though, in what has been in the most part, a disapointing season COYB!!
Adam
To be fair I think if everyone on here was asked when we was bottom of the table for a month if we would settle for a 10th place finish everyone would have taken it. I think that if we finish higher than 10th its a bonus. Europe would have been nice but as a few people have said we knew it was going to be hard with the start we had. Still got 6 games to go so if we can win at least half of those maybe finish a bit higher up

Mac
I'm going with cowie on this one, crap europe is better than no europe. The experience gained for the likes of Ozzie etc could be valuable. Plus if we play Davis and if he plays a blinder or two, he could get noticed by the big boys and Milan could come in with a £15m bid for the boy (remember Keane, it could happen). Ah well we can dream. ATB Mac
rowlo-efc
Who gives a flying fuck about the intertoto... More games we'll lose after a close season of getting our hopes up./ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The intertoto is only three games and its pre-season - so we should use them as friendlies like the skunks did last year (unfortunately they got Deportivo in the semi's!) If we win our final - UEFA qualifying rounds here we come. The lads are a little wiser now to european football and perhaps have realised that you have to be patient when playing against european opposition - and not play like your in the prem! It may also mean that Joey and Arteta stay!

MikeO
Still a waste of time tbh,no-one has won the UEFA cup after entering the toto have they? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No but Bordeaux reached the final...the best argument in its favour is that Villarreal were winners in 2003 and 2004...seems to have done them no harm. MikeO
Apparently seven Premiership teams have registered for the Intertoto, though only three have "come out" and admitted it . So you have to assume that we'll need to finish seventh (or eighth if 'boro yadda yadda yadda) to get in. Portugal have not taken up their invitation so there is a spare place but it's gone to Andorra . Long shot but it's possible given Boltons poor current form. But after last night 'boro have a good shot at the UEFA and if it goes to eighth then another twelve points might be enough...have to win tomorrow though!!
